Dear Faculty:PCST collects, compiles and analyzes data of individual scien�sts for Directory of Produc�ve Scien�sts of Pakistan (PSP). These data and numerical ra�ng of scien�sts, conducted by PCST is a referral point and is used by R&D organiza�ons and Universi�es for assessment of candidates for appointments and promo�ons, as well as used for medals, awards including civil awards and nomina�on of pres�gious scien�fic bodies on request of MOST and other concerned agencies like Pakistan Academy of Sciences.PCST is pu�ng vigorous efforts to complete/update the data for the directory of “Produc�ve Scien�sts of Pakistan (PSP)” up to 2015. These data will also include the cita�ons and h-index of the scien�sts.Now PCST has requested to ask the scien�sts to kindly review the data of their research output and update the missing informa�on in their online proforma from the beginning of their research career to 2015 by logging on to h�p://www.pcst.org.pk/psp2015/. It will be appreciated if all the concerned scien�sts update their data within the �meline.The closing date to review/update applica�on is 11 July, 2016.In case of any problem in uploading the data/performa online, the same can be sent on the following email address: pcst.psp@gmail.com. REVIEW/UPDATION FOR DATA OF DIRECTORY OF PRODUCTIVE SCIENTISTS OF PAKISTAN (PSP)

University of Agriculture Faisalabad is going to launch two (2) double degree programs in collabora�on with University of Kassel and University of Go�ngen, Germany under SIA program from the academic year 2016-17. The names of these degree programs are M.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. Business and Rural Development and M.Sc. (Hons.) Agro-Ecology and Sustainable Land use.

Students in these degree programs will complete their first year of studies (2 semesters) at UAF-Pakistan, while the second year of studies will be offered at University of Go�ngen and University of Kassel. Moreover, the master thesis will be conducted by a supervisory commi�ees of the universi�es of Kassel and Go�ngen and one supervisor from UAF. This is an excellent opportunity for the prosperous students to get interna�onal exposure and make their academics career more promising. Interna�onal Internship

Nur Hazidah and Nurul Shafiqa A�qah two female students from University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) have proceeded back to their homeland a�er comple�ng internship at University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan ( SI ) the Vice Chancellor at the �me of departure as a token of advice encouraged the students to par�cipate in the na�on building programs at Malaysia. The linkages developed through this internship program will strengthen the networking with faculty and students at UPM while UAF will extends its coopera�on in all teaching, research, outreach, advocacy ini�a�ves and solving the intricate problems of Malaysian farmers.

The United States Agency for Interna�onal Development (USAID) has joined with several U.S. Government (USG) supported agencies to support Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER). PEER is a compe��ve grants program that invites scien�sts in developing countries, partnered with USG-supported collaborators, to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building ac�vi�es on topics with strong poten�al development impacts. This innova�ve program is designed to leverage the investments other USG-supported agencies have made in scien�fic research and training while suppor�ng the ini�a�ves of developing country scien�sts.Next applica�on cycle of PEER 6 is expected to be announced on the website around October 1, 2016. The University of Health Sciences (UHS) is organizing a cri�cal DEBATE ON “The Modern Obsession with ‘Be�er Data’ Is Driving A ‘management’ Rather Than an ‘academic’ Culture in our Universi�es”, On Wednesday, 13th July, 2016 From 10:30 am To 12:30 pm at Shams Auditorium, University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore. Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan (SI), the Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture Faisalabad will speak in the favour of this topic.

HEC Outstanding Research Awards 2013-2014

The following Faculty members of UAF have been awarded Best Research Paper Awards and decorated with cash awards rupees 70000 each with a cer�ficate of apprecia�on. ORIC congratulates all the award winners with a hope that all other faculty members will follow the footsteps of winners and play their role in the enhancement of credibility of UAF. AbstractHow Disaggregated Should Informa�on be for a Sound Food Security Policy?ABSTRACT This study aimed to answer the ques�on whether disaggrega�ng micro data on food security condi�ons yielded sufficient new informa�on to improve food security policies. To answer this ques�on, we proposed and implemented a conceptual model that comprised three successive levels of disaggrega�on. The model was implemented for the Punjab province of Pakistan for which primary data was collected from 1,152 rural households. To measure the food security status of households, the Dietary Intake Assessment (DIA) method was used. Furthermore, the determinants of food security were iden�fied using a Logit Regression model. Comparing the results of this model suggested that disaggrega�on yields sufficient new informa�on to warrant the extra effort. We found that food security of different household categories and micro-regions were sta�s�cally different from each other; moreover, household categories differed in their food security status even within regions. Basing poten�al policies on analysis of too aggregated data a level can lead to biased conclusions. An implica�on is that a blanket policy for ensuring rural household food security, as currently implemented in Pakistan, is not an efficient approach.
