NOW SEE THIS…..

This issue of the Post Newsletter is NEXT TO LAST to be published by this 89 year old

troop. On many occasions we have announced a publisher is needed and no (zero) replies

yet.

Over the years-twenty or so plus-Juanita and I have been on board. A few breaks along the

way certainly helped. This old engine cranks with sputters, very low rpm and inadequate

mobility to stay in the race.

I will assist the incoming person if needed; the Post Newsletter is very much needed!!! This

has been good and we have enjoyed many, many issues. A kind thank you for all those

who have assisted and we are still around believe it or not.

Again it has been great, THANK YOU. (We are not going anywhere, just moving to the

sidelines.)

Chaplain

Our Supreme Commander,

Our grateful hearts cry to You in praise at this Advent Season. We cry

in praise for the matchless gift of your only Son, Jesus! You saw the

problems, the turmoil of this world and You had mercy. You sent the

One who would redeem us for our sinful state. There was no other

sufficient sacrifice but You, our God, provided the only true solution to

the sin problem. Hallelujah! I'm redeemed by Love Devine Glory, Glo-

ry, Christ is mine. All to Him I now resign. Glory, Glory, Christ is

mine!

Our Father, the world is still in turmoil but, thanks be to God, You are

the solution to the world's turmoil, yes, You are the answer to the sin

problem. And Your solution is still available today, even after so many

years! We claim Your Solution. We appropriate Your sacrifice. It

avails for us today and we rejoice in your salvation. Your love, Your

salvation is available for each of us today.

There is no other remedy for the sin problem. You, Jesus, spilled Your

blood for our redemption and we accept Your salvation, the free gift of

forgiveness of sin. Oh, yes, we have all sinned and come short of the

glory of God but Your blood washes us "whiter than snow". What a

privilege, what a gift!

The new year is upon us. A new year of opportunity, of difficulties. We

thank You, Father, that You have everything under control. We usual-

ly cannot see the proper solution but we can be assured that You

know all about our problems and You know the best solution. Lord,

help us to rest assured that there is a best solution and that You

will lead us to the elusive answer.

Father, we thank You for our Legion Post, for the executive commit-

tee,

for the employees and for the willing volunteers. Thank You for the

Auxiliary and the willing helpers in that group. They make the Post so

much more enjoyable. We pray Your blessings on each of those

helpful ladies. Grant wisdom to the Executive Committee as they

care for the business of the Post. May every member of the Post be

an asset to God and to our country! May each of us say with the

writer of old "may the words of my mouth and the meditations of

my heart be acceptable in thy sight, Oh Lord".

Father, help us this year 2018. May we face the problems with

faith in You being that You know the beginning from the end.

Some trust in horses and chariots but our eyes are on You.

We ask it all in the lovely name of Jesus, our Messiah.

AMEN

Greetings to All—Members, Auxiliary,

Friends,

We are operating on all cylinders in the

Post. Supporting worthwhile functions but

most of all, assisting some of our own—

Veterans and families in need.

Our baseball teams have won again! Like

State Champs that is. To show our appre-

ciation, the 17 and under team will be our

guest at this months Post social. Lets show

our appreciation to their achievements.

Please plan to attend and meet these fine

young men and the coaches.

Note to All: Recommend Legion mem-

bership to Veterans—that could be a

real plus for them.

DO ONTO OTHERS AS THOUGH YOU WERE THE OTHERS.

CATCHING RAYS - CREATING BRIGHTER FUTURES

Hi Ladies,

Our 2018-2019 year began with some administrative and operational changes at the National and Department levels

and have thus been passed down to us at Unit levels. Annual membership dues for ALA Unit 13 are now $35.00 for

adults age eighteen and older, and $5.00 for Juniors age seventeen and younger. Female Veterans joining for their

first year will not have to pay National and Department dues because they have been waived for the first year. We

invite you to please come join us.

Ladies let us put forth extra efforts to recruit new adult and junior members, and remember that we are also military

family members and are included in our mission of providing "support and services to military families, at home and

abroad". Keep us all in your Prayers.

The District Two School of Instructions for the American Legion Auxiliary will be on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in

Lanark, Florida and will be hosted by ALA Lanark Unit 82. The address is 2316 Oak Street, and registration will

begin at 10:00am. Food will be provided by Unit 82 for a small donation. This event will occur before our regular meet-

ing on second Thursday, so please plan to attend our SOI.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for the following meetings and events:

Labor Day Holiday: September 3, 2018

School of Instructions (SOI): September 8th in Lanark, Florida at ALA Unit 82

Executive Committee / General Membership Meetings: September 13th at 6:00pm / 7:00pm in the Hootch.

DID YOU KNOW? BY John Folsom, Past Commander

September 1

September 1, 1715 - The "Sun King" (King Louis XIV of

France) died. He had ruled since the age of five and was

succeeded by his 5-year-old great-grandson Louis XV.

September 1, 1939 - At 5.30 a.m., Hitler's armies invaded

Poland starting World War II in Europe.

September 1, 1969 - Military officers overthrew the Liby-

an government. The Libyan Arab Republic was then pro-

claimed under Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

September 1, 1983 - Korean Air Lines Flight 007 was

shot down by a Russian fighter jet while on route from

New York to Seoul, killing all 269 persons on board. The

Boeing 747 reportedly strayed 100 miles off course over

secret Soviet Russian military installations on the Kam-

chatka Peninsula and Sakhalin Island. It crashed in the

Sea of Japan.

The Choctaw code talkers were a group of Choctaw Indians

from Oklahoma who pioneered the use of Native American

languages as military code. Their exploits took place dur-

ing the waning days of World War I. The government of

the Choctaw Nation maintains that the men were the first

American native code talkers ever to serve in the US mili-

tary.

Joseph Oklahombi (May 1, 1895, Bokchito, Bryan County,

Oklahoma - April 13, 1960) was an American soldier of the

Choctaw nation.[1] He was the most-decorated World War

I soldier from Oklahoma. He served in Company D, First

Battalion, 141st Regiment, Seventy-first Brigade of the

Thirty-sixth Infantry Division during World War I, where

he was one of the Choctaw code talkers.

From Chief Gary Batton of the Choctaw Nation of Oklaho-

ma:"Many of you know the story of the Choctaw Code Talk-

ers of WWI and WWII and also the story of Code Talker

Joseph Oklahombi, who single-handedly captured 171 Ger-

mans after moving 200 yards over open ground against

artillery and machine gun fire, rushing a machine gun nest

and capturing one of the guns. He not only turned the gun

on the enemy for four days, keeping them under fire, he

was without food and water those four days, killing numer-

ous enemy soldiers until the rest surrendered. Although …

[retroactively] awarded … the Silver Star and Marshal

Pétain, former Commander-in-Chief of the French Armies

of the East, awarded him the Croix de Guerre, the Con-

gressional Medal of Honor was never presented. It is a long

-overdue recognition and I am working to see the Medal of

Honor presented to Oklahombi.
