i want to invite you to dinner – twice. in the next few days we will offer two dinners in our church that have special programs which might be of interest to you. Let me tell you what i mean.

on Wednesday night, June 27, i will offer a “Denominational report” from the Annual Meetings of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. We

partner with these two national groups for missions around the world. There are many things that one local church can do – but we are stronger when we cooperate with others to share the gospel beyond our own community. Periodically i give a report to the church concerning developments within these two groups. We generously support them with our gifts and prayers, so we need to know what is happening with our partners. i invite you to come to dinner on Wednesday night and then join the conversation about our larger Baptist family.

The following Sunday night, July 1, will be our god and Country Service. We will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship hall for a meal prepared by our church kitchen. Following supper will be a service of patriotic music and a slide show of church members who have served in the military. This is always a special night to give thanks for the freedoms that we enjoy as a country. i invite you to come to dinner and join in the celebration.

While i am inviting you to dinner, please note one night that i am requesting you not come to dinner. July 4 is on a Wednesday this year, so we will not have our Fellowship Supper or any Wednesday night activities on that night. have a wonderful holiday!

Renovation Update- June 2012The project continues to move ahead within budget and on schedule for November 2012 completion.

The interior of the Administrative Suite has been completed to the stage planned for this phase. The front parking lot paving and striping will be completed soon. The lot in front of the preschool area will be getting its final coat, and the new parking area in front of the Admin Suite will receive both a base coat and final coat. The cover over the new entrance will be installed on the four brick columns that have been erected.

The sidewalks, curbs and retaining walls are complete. Landscaping in the front will begin later this summer.

Down the hallway leading to the Gathering Place, the drywall has been installed and is being finished. The main electrical panels are being installed, and other mechanical systems including a new boiler are being placed. The contractors are installing the final pieces of drywall on the arches and ceilings in the Gathering Place. The walls in that area have been completed and most are sanded and ready for primer and paint. The metal “store-front” framing is being installed in the large curved windows on the west end.

Work continues in the Student Center. The drywall and interior brick is nearly complete in the worship space, and the walls are almost ready for primer and paint. Drywall has been installed in the set of classrooms on the west side. The remaining classrooms will receive drywall once the roof above them is completed. That final section of roof will be installed once the brickwork in that area on the roof is completed. It's been quite a sequence for the contractor to orchestrate, but everyone is looking forward to that last section being “in the dry” within another week or so! Exterior brick work continues on the St. Clair side, and the curved part of the Student Center is nearly complete. The large rectangular opening near the existing building on the St. Clair side will be closed in for brick installation once the two-story staircase has been installed. That staircase will connect the first and second floors near the 118 hallway and provide for emergency fire escape.

The Community Room, Support Kitchen, and main restrooms have all been roughed in for electrical, plumbing and HVAC. The acrylic showers have been delivered and will be installed soon. There will be two showers in each restroom. Drywall installation has begun in the restrooms and will start in the remaining areas once that final section of roofing is in. Inside the Life Center (gym), the drywall is being finished and sanded. Primer and painting for those walls will begin soon.

The contractors have opened the connection area near the 118 hallway. A temporary wall has been built in the existing structure. The contractors will finish that area as quickly as possible (except for the flooring) and return it to our use. That work is expected to take 2-3 weeks. They will then follow the same procedure at the 200-level connection upstairs. The work there is projected to begin about June 25 and take 2-3 weeks. The connection work at the chapel should start about July 16 and take 2-3 weeks to complete. The carpet in these areas will be installed later in the project. We appreciate your patience as each of these areas is “joined in” to the existing building.

Six months ago Jamie showed me a video of a teenager who went to Africa, was changed by the experience, came back,

and started to raise funds for the people of Africa. The video got me thinking. What can I do? What can I do to tell people about Jesus while at the same time raising money for something I believe in and REALLY want to support?

In these early stages all I knew was simply God saw me, and listened to these prayers.

It was a Sunday morning in late September and I was preparing to go into church when my friend Zach, came up with a bag of shirts he was going to cut up, in order to make ONE shirt, with all of the logos. BOOM. The Lord, that Sunday morning told me what He wanted me to do. He wanted me take all 100 of my old t-shirts and make t-shirt headbands.

Over Christmas break 2011, my friends, family, and I started making headbands in bulk. I sold my first few headbands this Christmas. From there I sold mainly to church friends. When my friend Caroline Caneer bought one she also suggested that I create a facebook group! So I did just that- that very afternoon on Sunday, January 28, 2012. From that day on, people, TONS of people have bought headbands. When I started selling, my goal was a couple hundred dollars to buy building supplies for the mission trip that the youth group will be going on to the Dominican Republic this summer. When I told Jamie about how I was raising money, he informed me that a water purification system cost $2000 and that maybe a water system was something I could work towards. From that point on, I was engulfed by a new passion—bringing clean water to a NATION. And the fun thing is that this is an obtainable dream. “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” Romans 8:31.

HE wants these people to have clean water- drinking water and SPIRITUAL water. This summer the Dominicans will receive not only a water purification system but JESUS – the true Living Water.
