These programs have been of high quality and relevance, conducted on important themes in Geotechnical engineering for the benefit of professionals, academicians and students. It is a pleasure to inform you that members of various Technical Committees nominated from IGS to ISSMGE TCs have started a number of technical programs in the country. The first one is a Workshop on Ground Property Characterization from In-Situ Tests by the members of TC102 (Ground property characterization from In situ tests) and is being held during 26-27 April 2019 in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. It is expected that the codes pertaining to various in situ tests will be examined and evaluated. It is hoped that presentations and discussions among experts who are attending the workshop may provide useful inputs to practice in India. Second one is the International Conference on Geotechnics for High Speed Corridors during 25 th and 26 th July 2019 in Thiruvananthapuram in association with TC 202 on Transportation Geotechnics. Hopefully, the pre-conference workshop and Conference will be useful to researchers and infrastructure companies. The third one is the International Symposium of Geotechnical Aspects of Heritage (ISGHS2019) scheduled to be held at IIT Madras during 16-18 September 2019 by IGS-Chennai Chapter and National Centre for Safety of Heritage Structure (NCSHS-IITM) with the support of TC301 (Preservation of Historic Sites). The fourth one and first of its kind, First Indian Symposium on Offshore Geotechnics – ISOG 2019 is being organized during 5-6 December 2019 at Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar in association with IEOT, ONGC, TC209 (offshore Geotechnics) and IGS. All the above programs have participation of experts and delegates from India and abroad. The recent Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference, held in Silchar, during 15-16 March 2019, aimed at assessing and improving the quality of geotechnical engineers (under 35 years) was successful. It was also noted by some of the members that these members of IGS need grooming and support. While we have student chapters for students in undergraduate programme (some times with inclusion of PG students), we do not have a mechanism in IGS to address the critical need of helping the young members who complete the Masters program to take up a job or research. Hence, it is proposed to have Young Member Group (YMG) of these members of IGS in different chapters. Similar initiative exists at ISSMGE level. These members need to be life members of IGS and take active part in the local chapter programs. One member of the group can be invitee in local chapter EC meetings. The whole process helps in improvement of gradation of IGS membership wherein all members participate and serve the needs of the Society. Let us promote better Geotechnics to create better world! The GDS Resilient Modulus Testing System (RMTS) enables the resilient modulus and permanent deformation of unbound base/sub-base pavement materials to be determined. The system, based around the GDS ELDYN, uses an axially-sti load frame with a beam mounted electro-mechanical actuator to apply dynamic cyclic axial loads, with a GDS triaxial cell used to conne the test specimen. A number of options are also available for measuring axial deformations, ranging from localised LVDTs to external linear potentiometers.
