Bullies Can Come in All Shapes and Sizes Whether people like it or not, a bully can come

in any shape or size. It could be believed that a

parent’s worst fear is that their child is not

enjoying their school day, or that in fact they

may be suffering silently. Most kids in fact that

have been bullied, more than not, have been

finding it harder and harder to speak up.

Statistics show that over 32 million students

are bullied each year, that in those numbers

around 160,000 students skip school every day

because of bullying. Most students rarely ever

tell of instances of being at the mercy of

another, 17 percent of American students

report being bullied 2 to 3 times a month or

more, within a school semester. In fact, it

makes it harder that 1 in 4 teachers find

nothing wrong with bullying, and will only

intervene 4 percent of the time. It has also

been stated in statistics that by the age of 14,

less than 30 percent of boys and 40 percent of

girls will talk to their peers about bullying.

Bullying isn’t only fixated on kid to kid, bullies

can also lie in the shadows of the very adults

who are meant to protect and guide children.

Though reported situations of teachers bullying

their students are on a low percentage, it is still

known that such occurrences have happened. It

has also been recorded that over 67 percent of

students feel that schools respond poorly to

bullying, with a high percentage of students

believing that adult help is infrequent and

ineffective. Approximately 71 percent of

students have reported incidents of bullying to

be a problem at their school and 1 in 10

students drop out of school yearly, due to

repeated incidents of bullying. And it should be

a noted fact that averages gather that physical

bullying increases in elementary school, peaks

in middle school, and declines in high school,

though verbal abuse remains a constant

throughout all years of school. It’s a good thing

Allen East tries its best.

Some things that can be done for bully

protection can include many different

scenarios. Starting off with parents, they can

tell their children proper ways to act and what

they shouldn’t do if a child is being bullied.

Things that children can do to help prevent

bullying, or just to discourage it, very obviously

would be things such as not giving a bully an

audience, helping the bullied get away from the

predator, telling a trusted adult, or just being

the other child’s friend in general. Usually

stopping a fit of bullying right on the spot has

been a good way to break up a fight right as it

occurs. Other things that need to be done in a

situation of bullying would be to find out the

reason for the incident or help support the child

who has been suffering at the mercy of another.

Kids will appreciate it.

I’ve heard it said that kids these days are a bit too sensitive and that some people need to ease up. But if a child or young

adult feels uncomfortable in an environment that is supposed to make them feel secure and welcome then I’d say that’s a

problem. Whether the problems lies within the school’s way of handling things or a parent’s control over their own child,

bullying has been a central problem in school since before most of us were even born.

Hey there Mustang land, were here to give you Quiz Bowl. Mr. Casey has been trying his best getting the Quiz Bowl team where they are now. Quiz Bowl recently ended their season, they had a wonderful season. They managed to compete on the show “Whiz Quiz” and competed in the Black Swamp matches held at Lima Central Catholic. The Quiz Bowl had 6 seniors, 4 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 2 freshmen this year. We decided to interview Mr. Casey about Quiz Bowl, and their success and why you should join!

Q. How is the Quiz Bowl team doing?

A. We are actually finished, it was a great

season!

Q. Do you like this team?

A. Of course! We had a lot of fun!

Q. Is it your best team?

A. It was definitely fun, but how could I

justify “best”

Q. What is it like in Quiz Bowl?

A. It’s like Jeopardy, we also practice in

the same way, we split into 4 groups with

white boards and they write down the

answer and hold it up. It’s like trivia to be

honest.

Q. What keeps the motivation?

A. It’s just fun and it’s really low

pressure on the kids in Quiz Bowl.

Q. Are the questions difficult?

A. Yes and they vary, some of the

questions I can’t even answer. They try

to hit the medium range.

Q. Would you advise anyone to join?

A. Yes, if you’re fun and interested, you

can actually get some bonus for college

in Quiz Bowl if you’re really good. It’s a

win/win situation.

Q. Is it fun?

A. Absolutely!
