New Directions Northwest runs several Drug and Alcohol Programs,

including the Elkhorn Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Center (EADAC). EA-

DAC recently started a new program to encourage teamwork and leadership

through positive role-modeling. The new program is through the Boy Scouts

of America called Venturing, that teaches teamwork and leadership skills

through outdoor activities like camping. They have asked for some financial

support as it is difficult for them to raise funds. Their funds are already

strained by the cost of training materials, uniforms and other activities.

To Donate Please Make Your CD-28 Out to Venturing Acct #2460

is from 8:15 to 8:30 AM NO EXCEPTIONS Note: If you leave the game are and are called on, you

have 5 minutes to check in before you are disqualified.

If your PRAS Award is less than expected, one reason may be some kind of misconduct you received during the month. Based on ORS 291-077-0033, the Performance Recogni-tion and Award System (PRAS), you may receive less PRAS points than you expect if you have any kind of disciplinary report in the same month.

Daily Failures: You will not receive PRAS points for that day.

Program Failures: You will not receive PRAS points for that day and any days af-terwards.

Misconduct Reports: You will lose a portion of the PRAS points you already earned for the month of the write-up based upon the severity of your misconduct. You will lose from 10%-100% of your monthly points for each misconduct received.

When Behavior Affects Your PRAS Points

Behavioral Adjustment as follows

The department will record all inmate disciplinary sanction orders and adjust down-ward the inmate’s monthly performance points based on the level of misconduct as-signed to the disciplinary rule violation(s) by the corresponding inmate disciplinary grid(s) contained in the department’s rule on Prohibited Inmate Conduct and Pro-cessing Disciplinary Actions (OAR 291-105). For each disciplinary order sanctioning an inmate for a disciplinary rule violation, the department will deduct points from an inmate’s monthly performance points based on the level of misconduct as follows:

(A) Level 1 -- 100% Deducted.

(B) Level 2 -- 80% Deducted.

(C) Level 3 -- 65% Deducted.

(D) Level 4 -- 40% Deducted.

(E) Level 5 -- 20% Deducted.

(F) Level 6 -- 10% Deducted.

Deductions for behavioral adjustment will be made in the month in which the final disciplinary order is issued in the disciplinary case. Monthly performance points with behavioral adjustments will be calculated by taking the monthly performance points, subtracting for behavioral adjustments to determine the total monthly performance points.

Movie Rental Update

There have been some recent issues related to the DVD rental program.

There will be no refunds of tickets for DVD rentals. The Administration Clerk will only substitute your rental for another disk if there is a problem. Please know that there will only be a limited selection to choose from. Common reasons people experience problems:

1. Not providing the proper MCN (Movie Checkout Number). 2. Not providing an Alternate MCN. 3. Late delivery. 4. The disk is damaged. 5. The disk has bean banned. 6. The disk is missing.

Please double check the MCN and always provide an alternate MCN. Please allow 1 hour for your rental delivery between 8-9 am and 5-6 pm. please allow for some exceptions such as dinning or count time running late. Try to be available at your housing unit for delivery. Using the most recent Unit Movie List will help prevent any other issues. The Administration Clerks are in place to deliver and pick up the rentals only. If you have questions about anything related to administration, please send an inmate communication to the proper channel. If you don’t know where to send your communication, there is a routing chart posted in your unit and in your intake pack-et. If you would like to know more about our current movie selections, the DVD cover art and information is located at the MPB in the library. Upon arrival at PRCF you signed the DVD Player Rental Agreement. This is what you agreed to.

DVD Player Rental Agreement

I, ________________________ have read and agree to the conditions set forth for the use of said DVD Player, re-mote, cords/cables batteries and any movie's that come with this Rental.

I will not lend or allow the DVD player, remote, batteries, power cord, or disc to be used by others. I will not misuse, abuse or damage the items I am renting. I will be responsible for the care for the Player, Remote and DVD’s so that others may have the opportunity to en-

joy the usage of the devices at a later time. I understand that if I do damage the equipment or that it is damaged while in my care, I may be held accountable

Message from ISU (Inmate Services Unit)

Questions & Answers from ISU (Inmate Services Unit)

RE: Visitor Applications

Q: Why does it take so long to process a visitor application/s for my family or friends?

A: There are a few reasons as to why processing times vary:

1. AIC is on INTAKE Status - visitor applications submitted while on Intake cannot be processed until the AIC reaches his/her home institution. To speed up the process, hold on to your applications until you reach your first housing institution.

2. The visitor application has missing or incorrect information - ALL INFORMATION IS REQUIRED on the application; FULL NAME (first, middle, and last names must be SPELLED CORRECTLY), DATE OF BIRTH AND A VALID ID NUMBER must be included to complete a background check.

3. Potential visitor is not from the United States - These visitors must provide their own background check from the country they are visiting from. They may contact a police agency or the Consulate representing the country they are from.

4. Potential visitor is a minor - In order to enter any ODOC facility ALL MINOR VISITORS must have a custodial consent form signed by the CUSTODIAL parent or LEGAL guardian and NOTARIZED on file. The ISU Technician will send this form to the parent or legal guardian once it has been determined the minor visitor is eligible for visiting.

5. Visitor is in “Deferred” status - If you receive a Deferred notice, review, sign, and return to the ISU office a soon as possible. We CANNOT approve the visitor without your permission. Holding onto or destroying this form will also slow down the process. If you do not return the deferred notice after the 3rd attempt, ISU will close the application to IN-Incomplete.

If you have further questions in regards to the visitor application process, please send your written communi-

cation forms to: Inmate Services Unit 2575 Center St. NE Salem, OR 97301

Here’s what a G.P. Committee member has to say My name is Scott Wheeler. I am 26 years old. I have been using drugs and alcohol since I was 11 years old. Ever since I

started using I have not done anything productive with my life. Over half of my life I have spent burning bridges. In my ad-

diction, not a day went by that I didn’t manipulate and lie to people around me.

When I wasn’t doing that, I was committing crimes. Really I’m quite lucky I didn’t get a much longer prison sentence

than I did. After I was arrested I called my mom. I told her I was going to prison and she was happy. I didn’t understand why

that was at first, but now I do.

I will say that I am quite fortunate that I did come to prison because now I have been given hope and opportunity. When I

was out on the streets, I thought the only way out of my addiction was death. I thought there was no way I would ever be able

to live a “normal” life. I now realize how wrong I was.

I have been in AIP for about two months now. I am glad I chose to participate in this program. So far in AIP I have

learned a lot of useful tools that I know will help me for the rest of my life. I have learned better communication skills, lead-

ership skills, and how to face my problems in a responsible way instead of running from them.

I am looking forward to taking the skills and tools I am learning in this program and making them an active part of my

everyday life in the greater community. My parents will have their son back. All four of my little brothers will be able to

look up to me as a role model, not because I have been to prison or because of the trouble I have caused; but they will be able

to look up to me for all the steps I have taken to better myself.

It’s not over yet. Even once I graduate this program, it won’t be over. Recovery is a life-

long struggle I will have to face each and every day. Thanks to the New Directions pro-

gram, I now have the tools and knowledge I need to overcome the challenges I face every

time I meet them.
