Klinck President’s Message Compatriots, As we begin the second year of my term in office, I am pleased to report that we have had a prosperous 2013-2014. Our chapter’s Youth Contest winners in Eagle Scout, Knight Essay and JROTC advanced to win their respective categories at the State competition and went on to represent Kentucky at the National level. We have completed another rewarding year of support of the JROTC programs at our local high schools and the University of Louisville by awarding ten Bronze Medals and two Silver Medals to well deserving candidates. In November, we teamed with Kin- dred Healthcare to provide over 1500 personal care items for our veterans at the VA Hospital. Last, but not least, Will Schrader and Dick Bierman have both attended countless naturalization ceremonies at the Federal Courthouse. Their attendance in their color guard uniforms definitely add “color” to the festivities. Our chapter’s color guard unit continues to represent us well with appearances throughout the state. Their distinguished representation in uniforms of the 1st Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line stands out as an easily recognized symbol of the Revolutionary War. Hope- fully you saw the article in the last issue of the SAR Magazine about the new 1st Virginia Regi- mental Flag we recently acquired. From grave markings, to parades, to other events of non- SAR organizations, the Dr. V. Edward Masters Memorial Color Guard is at the ready. If you are interested in wearing the distinguished red, white and blue, please contact Commander Dan Klinck for details. Over the last year, we have seen a steady increase in meeting attendance, and we will continue the effort to contain our costs and present relevant topics of interest for everyone. Thank you for your support and continued involvement. We hope to continue our successful “Night at the Ballpark” event in August, and possibly even schedule a Sunday cruise on the Belle of Louis ville in September. Remember that opportunities are always available to serve on various committees and in nu- merous volunteer activities. Just a few examples where we need help are: volunteering at National Headquarters (which is rewarded with a Lafayette Medal after 40 hours of volunteer service), material donations for the VA Medical center, naturalization ceremonies, grave mark- ings, JROTC award presentations, school programs, Eagle Scout activities, color guard partici- pation, etc.

Annual Meeting Held on April 12, 2014

You may want to consider sponsoring and presenting a Flag Certificate to an individual, a company or an organization that regularly flies the United States flag. We have recently presented three Flag Certificates. Please note that a Flag Certificate should not be given to any commercial enterprise that obviously flies the flag for advertising purposes. Certificates are available through the SAR Store, and while the cost is nominal, the goodwill is tremendous. Flag Day is a great time to do this. Our next meeting will be the Flag Day Luncheon on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Hurstbourne Country Club. Our speaker will be Maj. Gen. Carl D. Black (Ret.). Additionally, we will be honoring seven chapter members who earned Korean War  Service  status.  If  you  remember  our  celebration  of  WW  II  Veterans  in  2012,  this  is  one  meeting  you  won’t  want  to  miss. Please feel free to contact me directly at: [email protected]. I would appreciate your feedback to see what we can do to enhance participation and our exposure in the local community. Doug Douglas T. Collins, Chapter President

Forty-five  compatriots  and  guests  attended  the  chapter’s  Annual  Luncheon  Meeting  on  Saturday,  April  12,  2014  at   Louisville Country Club.
