FOUR IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

In the past few months, the newly elected Deacons and Elders have been reading, studying, and meeting together to prepare for their active service to the church. In worship on Sunday, July 10, we will ordain and/or install 6 New Elders (serving 3 year terms) and 12 New Deacons (serving 1, 2, or 3 year terms). It’s a great group of leaders, and I am excited about their commitment to the Lord and to his church. At the June Session meeting, the current elders interviewed and examined these 18 new leaders. We had a great time sitting around tables and having faith-filled conversations about the church, the Bible, the Book of Order, and the Book of Confessions. I want to share four important questions from the “exam,” because they are questions every Christian should be able to answer. These four important questions are actually the first and last questions of the exam. Take a minute and think- how do you answer them? 1. Tell us about your faith journey and relationship with Jesus Christ. 2. In what ways are you currently growing as a disciple? 3. What areas of ministry are you most interested in being part of at Westminster? 4. What hope and prayer do you have for Westminster Presbyterian Church? I’m grateful for Westminster and the ways we’re growing together. God’s doing a good thing through the church. Yours in Christ,

In Honor of Clif Green For the Music Fund From David and Ann Morris

To My Westminster Church Family,

I have been so touched by the outpouring of love and

support shown to me during my illness.

I am full of gratitude to God and to

each of you for the prayers, cards,

flowers, and food. Fran Ligon

Dear Westminster, June 21, 2016

The flowers you brought me are beautiful in my

room—just as they were in church Sunday. Flowers

lift my spirits and I thank you so much. Daniel’s

sermon touched our hearts, especially since this is our

first father’s day without him. Daniel nailed it—Bill

got teary eyed and has mentioned it.

Everyone has been so welcoming to us and we

are grateful. My attendance will sort of depend on

when my son, Bill ,is able to bring me. He arranges

his college classes around my doctor’s appointments

so he can take me. He is also

chairman of the board of Leonard’s

music school. He plays professionally

and works for a contractor friend in

summer.

Again, thank you for the loving

kindness that has been shown.

Sincerely,

Ruth McSweeney

“Our hearts and tummies are full and grateful for all the lovely cards and delicious food you have

shared with us after Howard’s fall in May and his shoulder replacement on June 8. We have felt

your prayers and concerns! Thank you to our

church family for loving and supporting us in so many

ways. God is so faithful. We continue to know God’s love

through you! With gratitude,

Howard and Jenny Fulwiler”

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN’S CIRCLE 5 Just a reminder of our luncheon on Tuesday, July 12, at the Tomato Shed at Stono Market.

You can meet at the church at 10:30 am and carpool, or meet us

at the Tomato Shed at 11 am. Let’s

catch up on summer happenings, have a good time, and enjoy a good

lunch. See you there.

Buildings and Grounds Committee:

A project to landscape the azalea bed at the

Church entrance has been approved and will be

going on in the next few weeks. Once it is

finished we will hold a work day to plant shrubs

and flowers to help produce an attractive

entrance.

A project in the Preschool to cut a door into the

Nursery will begin July 18. This is a safety

measure to give an added means of exit, plus a

more efficient way to get from one classroom to

the nursery. Your patience for any inconvenience

during construction will be appreciated.

The Buildings and Grounds has postponed work

on the walkway roofs until we can investigate

upgrading the egress in this area. A

subcommittee has been formed to seek an

architect to help with suggestions. Once these are

available we will consider the work necessary on

the walkways.

The Building and Grounds Committee has

postponed the installation of new carpeting in the

Sanctuary until after Hands of Christ and to study

more the effects of the new HIVAC system. We

hope to get back to considering this project in

September.

To Sylvia and Jenny,

as co-moderators of the

Westminster Deacons,

Please tell each member that I send

my heartfelt thanks and grateful

appreciation for your many kind

expressions of welcome since I

recently joined Westminster Church. I

am impressed and deeply touched by

the warmth and friendliness of each

word!

The closing of Park Circle Church was

a sad and bittersweet experience I

had never encountered before and I

was comforted by the wonderful way

I was accepted by Westminster.

When I received the card signed by

Elders and Deacons I read each

name and look forward to meeting

each of you.

A special thank you to these persons

who attended the special service at

Park Circle on May 1st. Thank you for

your visits to Presbyterian Home. It is

always a joy to see you. (you always

surprise all of us by bringing special

gifts)

It just seemed “right” to join

Westminster Church, and I look

forward to continuing my faith

journey with so many wonderful

friends.

Westminster

Deacons are to

be congratulated

for the wonderful

things you do to

“take care of

your flock.”

News from the Preschool

The halls are eerily quiet without the sounds of children talking, laughing and learning. The only sounds are from the occasional teacher coming to make plans for next year, cleaning by our wonderful cleaning staff and on Sunday mornings when Sunday School and children’s church give it a boost. Otherwise the only noise is from the office where plans are being made for a great school year. Last month the recently vacated four year-old position was filled by Janet Boswell, a former pre-school parent and a retired Charleston County School Preschool Intervention Teacher. For many years Ms. Boswell has been working with students at our school through CCSD and has shared so much of her knowledge of teaching Preschoolers with our staff. She will have really large shoes to fill of Ms. Sue Smoak who retired after 36 years. Ms. Boswell’s children were students of Ms. Smoak’s over twenty years ago. We are truly excited to have her on our staff next year. Please continue to pray for the continued success of our Preschool and the children who begin their faith journey here. And as always please continue clipping Box Tops for Education and using your Publix cards to earn money for our school. Have a wonderful rest of the Summer. Blessings, The Preschool

One 80 Place, the shelter downtown, has some summer needs. If you would like to donate umbrellas, bug spray, sunscreen, or reusable water bottles for the men at the shelter, please put them in the basket outside of Daniel’s office.
