Our PDG Kamal Seth has been
designated as Chairman
Election Committee of RI District 3291
for Rotary Year 2016-17.
This year the Committee will conduct
election for the following positions-
1) District Governor Nominee Designate
2) Council on Legislation(COL)
Representative(COL meets every 3 years)
3) Ri Director Nominating Committee Member
Rtn Suresh Gupta (26.11.1930-03.10.2016)
Rtn Suresh Gupta, Founder Member of Rotary Club of Calcutta Midtown, left for heavenly abode creating a huge Void.
He grew up on Zakaria Street, influenced by
Arya Samaj, as well as bania frugality and
simple living. Suresh completed his Geology
B.Sc. from Presidency College and joined the
family business, trading stocks and jute for 6
decades. In the business world, he was
respected and loved for being honest,
forthright, genial, and charismatic.
In 1952, Suresh married the fiercely
independent Kusum Musaddi of Kanpur, who
ensured that his conservative upbringing
would no more reign supreme. Then the
children came, Sujata, Anuja, and Siddhartha,
whose early death cast a lasting shadow, and
then three grandchildren whom he adored.
In 1975, Suresh joined the new Rotary Club of
Calcutta Midtown as a Charter Member. He
found the camaraderie with persons from all
communities and walks of life thrilling. In turn,
he enticed all with his stylish renditions of sher-
o-shairis, sense of mischief and humour, and
bawdy jokes in his native Haryanvi. He was in
the committee for admitting new members,
where his modus operandi was to pick those
with the prettiest wives.
Kusum's sudden death in 2014 left him
shattered. As time passed he became mellow
and contemplative. For all his rich life and
popularity, Suresh remained modest and self-
deprecating to the end. Rotary Midtown will
miss him.
