My Lent 2017

There is a thin line between a holy pious person and a sinner; both face the same

challenges, calamities, pressures of life, temptations, disappointments, urge for

prosperity but one rests his/her hopes in God, but the other trusts in himself

alone. One is subject to God; the other endeavours to equal Him."

It is clear that we do not wear ashes to proclaim our holiness but to

acknowledge that we are sinners who are in need of repentance and renewal.

“As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God.”

Psalms 42:2

WHAT SHOULD I GIVE UP FOR LENT? CHOCOLATE? ICE CREAM?

SODA? CHATTING? GOING FOR MOVIES?

Many of us try to be more disciplined for Lent and give up something that we

really like. That’s great! Fasting has always been an important tradition of Lent.

This year however, let us also consider other things that we can give up.

We are called to journey with the Lord in a special season of prayer, fasting,

almsgiving, and penitence (expressing true sorrow for sin and wrongdoing) as we

prepare to celebrate the feast of Easter, the Christian Passover of Jesus' victory

over sin. As we plan on starting this Lenten season in a well-disposed manner;

Activities Director Message

Brother Knights As we embark on our Lenten Journey; opportunity for each of us to take some time for reflection and prayer. Lent affords us a time to rid ourselves of habits that are doing little good, or perhaps harm not only to ourselves but to others and replace them with habits that are life-giving. Several of us were fortunate to attend Catholic Men’s Conference; Into the Breach Apostolic Exhortation authored by our very own Bishop Olmsted’s sponsored by the Knights of Columbus on Feb 4th; several of the key take-away’s for me ties in perfectly with this Lenten season. #1) Reflection on where we each are on our journey: Moral, Intellectual and Spiritually. #2) To Change a Habit…Takes Action; 3 major components/process in making that change would be to ponder, pray, listen, for direction/answer to those prayers and then to act…

Pray Listen Act

Let’s all take on a personnel challenge to eliminate one bad habit and replace it with one good one…let me offer up a suggestion for good Habit!! If you are already involved and participating with our Knight projects: outstanding; then I ask you do one more, if you haven’t engaged yourself or been away this is a perfect time to re-establish yourself with our Parish and our Brotherhood. Welcome Home! Please review attached calendar for many upcoming activities and please volunteer your time and talents. March Activities

Our Guarantees Set Us Apart

Knights of Columbus life insurance offers something precious few other financial products can – guarantees. As long as you pay your premiums, the policy proceeds will be there for your beneficiaries should something happen to you. That’s peace of mind, and that’s what we offer with every product in our portfolio.

We guarantee the cash value in your whole life policies will be there.

We guarantee the rates on your term insurance.

We guarantee the rate and your principal in our retirement annuities.

On top of those product guarantees, I guarantee that I will offer professional, high-quality service that you would expect from our organization.

Our Order is among the highest rated life insurers in North America. AM Best has rated the Knights of Columbus “A++, Superior” for 40 consecutive years. It’s a testament to our track record for excellence and security.

I would suggest that a principal reason that we were able to achieve those accolades is because we remain steadfastly committed to the vision of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney by providing life insurance by brother Knights for brother Knights.

That commitment is an essential core value of the Knights of Columbus, and our core values permeate all levels of our organization. We pledge to serve our brother Knights, and their families, according to our Golden Rule: “In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself.”

Let’s talk soon to discuss how our products can bring that peace of mind to you and your family.

New Business

AJ made a very good suggestion about when a new member joins that a knight basically adopt and mentor the new member to introduce him to the council members, activities, and goals. It might be advisable to adopt him during the 1st degree.

There was a discussion about implementing a Brother’s business directory. AJ will see about setting it up on the website

There was also discussion about planning a Spring Family Picnic. Raffle tickets are now available, Chuck has them and will freely distribute them to brother knights at the breakfast,

meetings and at church before and after Mass. Report of Fourth Degree

Dan mentioned the number of abortions compared to lives lost in all the US Wars. He then mentioned that the 40 days of life starts Weds March 1st, Following activities will be announced regularly.

Field Agents Report - Tom Moore

Tom discussed how important insurance is in taking care of a family during an unexpected, underfunded or unprepared death. He discussed the percentage of under insure or uninsured knights.

DD Report, State Deputy -

Ken stated that mount Carmel was very impressed with our first degree team. He said our numbers are good and

keep doing the great work.

Let us consider the following points of reflection:

Devoting our lives to God in this season

Let us have Fullness of life with God our Father

Let us be In the wilderness of prayer and fasting with Jesus

Let us continue growing in lively faith, firm hope, and fervent charity

Let us give up complaining - Focus on gratitude

Let us give up bitterness - Turn to forgiveness “Be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other, just as in

Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

Let us give up worry - Trust in God. “But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to

you as well.” Matthew 6:33

Let us give up discouragement - Be full of hope. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you: he will never leave

you or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8

Give up hatred - Return good for evil. “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.” 1
