The Book Club was scheduled to meet on January 10th but found that most members felt we could use a break right after the holidays. So there will not be a Book Club meeting in January. However, we will be right back to it in February on the 14th discuss-ing Ghost Boy by Martin Pistorius. This is a story of a young boy who becomes almost completely paralyzed after an illness. Everyone thinks he is not able to under-stand anything cognitively either, but he understands everything that is happening to him. In March we will move on to Dance of the Ja-karanda by Peter Kimani. This novel will take us to life in Kenya from 1900 to 1963 for three very differ-ent characters. In April The Secret Daughter by Shillpi Gowda will take us to India where a poor mother takes her newborn daughter to an orphanage to save her life. She is adopted by an American couple but never forgot-ten by her Indian mother. Please join us if any of these books sound interest-ing to you. We meet in the clubhouse at 10:00am on the second Wednesday of the month [except January]. Everyone is welcome!

~~Holiday Dinner Party Saturday, December 9, 2017~~
Our annual Holiday Dinner Party was a huge success. The Pete Tendas Room looked so festive all decorated for the Christmas season. Thank you to our special guest Santa Claus (AKA Ron Kester) who greeted all our Springer’s and guests. Thank you to our Master of Cérémonies Stu Krieger. Thank you also to Hal Hyman who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Gale Driver who said our invocation. Our fabulous dinner was catered by Country Harvest. Our entertainment for the evening were the students from the Rancho Campana High School. Thank you to Stu Krieger and Rick Canelli for putting up our new Christmas Tree. Thank you to Kathy Benioff, Gale Driver, Lynn Lewis, Joan Kellet and Judy Krieger for decorating the Pete Tendas room so beautifully. Thank you to Jone Shively our wonderful photographer [see photos on pages 2 and 3], Lynn Lewis for making our beautiful name badges, Camella for making our delicious coffee, Judy Hyman our caterer coorinator and Kathy Benioff, Susan Spann and Gail Edwards for making the lovely Holiday centerpieces.Special thank you to Hal Hyman, Stu Krieger, Bill Moore, John Wiley and John Mc Nair for setting up and taking down the tables and chairs. Many thanks to all those that stayed after the party to help clean up. Our next event will be our “Pancake Breakfast” hosted by Judy Krieger which will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Please watch for the flyer.
Holiday Dinner Party Entertainment It was very disheartening to hear some negative comments that were made regarding theRancho Campana High School students. The high school had been evacuated for a week due to the fires. The students had a difficult time getting back into the school to get their instruments. Several students live in Ventura and were unable to attend our event. There were about fifteen students missing in total. The music director gathered as many students as possible to play with no time for rehearsals due to the fires. These students who came to perform for our holiday party had been working with fire victims all day passing out water, food, and blankets and assisting wherever needed, and still they found it in their hearts to try and perform for our holiday party. Those of you who complained about the music, please remember, these are the kind of students who came with real heart and played and sang for all of us in spite of what they had been through. They all did the best they could under the circumstances that prevailed. I’m sure it was equally disheartening for the parents of the students who sat in our audience to take pictures and videotape their kids. At the holiday season let’s all remember to have kindness in our hearts for everyone.
