NEWS

Welcome everyone to our first CHPS Newsletter for 2020. I wish to for-mally welcome our returning students and their families as well as wel-coming the many new student /families to CHPS this year. As always, we are off to a busy start to the year and it is wonderful to see the enthu-siasm of our students, staff and parents in their quest to dive straight into the quality teaching and learning practices at CHPS.

I would like to remind everyone of our clear Mission and Vision state-ment, which gives all of us an understanding of what we are striving for.

A reminder that our Welcome Evening is coming up and this is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together to meet the teachers, listen to your child’s teacher explain in detail the vision for the teaching and learning programs for 2020, time for you to ask teachers questions, and meet and reconnect with new and old family friends.

I look forward to seeing you then.

Deputy Principal Message

Special Religious Education (SRE) is the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion delivered by authorised representatives of that persuasion. It is the distinctive religious tenets and beliefs of the home and family, provided by the churches and other religious groups for children of parents expressing the desire that they receive such teaching. Canley Heights Public School offers Catholic and Buddhist Special Religious Education (SRE) to our stu-dents. These classes take place on Thursdays for 30 minutes at different times through out the day. Students attend the classes appropriate to their grade. • Students already attending these classes continue each year unless the school is notified in writing that

a parent or carer no longer wishes their child to attend. • A parent or carer may withdraw or change their child’s SRE participation or nomination at any time. • Parents and carers who wish their child to begin attending SRE classes need to fill out and return the

Participation Note to the school. • The school is responsible for student behaviour management and duty of care, including for student

supervision, health, safety and wellbeing, during SRE. Schools intervene in cases where it is necessary to maintain good order and conduct.

Attendance at CHPS

At Canley Heights PS we are very proud of school community and the work

that we do as partners to ensure the children under our care have the best

opportunity to be successful, both now and in the future.

Daily attendance at school is very important if our students are to achieve

their best academically, socially and emotionally.

Every child has the right to the best education we can provide them.

Our attendance goals for this year:

1. to have all students achieving a minimum 90% attend-

ance rate.

2. to have all student absences explained by par-

ents/carers.

Please note the following from the Department's Attendance Policy

Parents are required to explain the absences of their children from school promptly and within seven days to

the school. An explanation for absence must be provided to the school within 7 days of the first day of any

period of absence.

Preschool News

We would like to welcome all our preschool children and families to Canley Heights Public School. The staff are looking forward to getting to know each family and child. Ms Hutton and Mrs Ahmad are our full-time preschool staff. Please feel welcome to see any staff member with any questions, concerns or suggestions. We look forward to an exciting year of learning!

Beginning Preschool 2020

All our children have had a very positive and happy start to they year. This year children have been running inside the gate eager to put their bags away and wave goodbye to mums and dad. It has been amazing to see such happy smiling faces, ready to explore, investigate and learn. Our children are learning to respond to and recognise their names, independently take care of their belongings and to share with others. What a great start everyone!

Here are some special moments of our children first exploring the preschool environment.
