Volume 26, Issue 12 https://www.cgs.com.bd/newsletter.php?GID=5&MID=38 July 2020 Dear Parents, Our school year 2019/20 has almost come to an end. The last quar- ter has been extremely difficult, a lot of us have lost our loved-ones to COVID-19. And the fight against this pandemic is still on-going. Please stay strong, continue taking precautionary measures to keep your family safe. Do not lose hope, there will be a day when Bangla- desh will have zero coronavirus cases and hopefully the day will come soon. Nevertheless, CGS Lower has been able to pursue the virtual curricu- lum successfully with its dedicated students and teachers. We will soon be hosting the summer term Virtual Parent-Teacher Meeting, on a one-on-one basis to hand out the digital report cards, certificates and all the necessary information for the following school year. CGS Lower team would like to thank you all for the support and co- operation we received throughout and looking forward to having you back with us for school year 2020/21. Stand United. Rasha Tariq Deputy Head CGS Lower School CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2020 The wonderful students of the class of 2020 put on a smile to get a virtual class picture. We hope to honour them with a traditional graduation when circumstances allow. Let us wish them well on their journey to the next stage of their education. WELCOME TO CGS UPPER SCHOOL Class 8 in Middle School (pictured above) will graduate to Upper in Au- gust. Welcome to the final stretch in your schooling! CGS RETROSPECTIVE 2019 / 2020 The school year commenced with the usual events, including a very successful IT and Science Fair in the first term, the annual Teacher‟s Convention and Round Square Student Conference in the second term. The final term was dis- rupted and schooling went virtual with a robust Mind-Body-Soul programme to support leaning in all aspects - ensuring students were well supported aca- demically, physically, mentally, morally and spiritually. Our teacher training programmes were expanded with all teachers upgrading their competences and enabling them to successfully interact with students and deliver virtual classes. Students appearing for board exams also did not suffer and Cambridge Exams and assessments stuck to schedule, enabling school leav- ers to continue to their tertiary choices. Each student was assigned a „Champion‟ or „buddy‟ teacher to keep a close eye on how they were doing and extend any support that was needed. We attended 12 conferences before these too went online and 3 students went on exchange programmes to Germany, Ghana and USA before lockdown. And thus we come to the end of our school year with the entire CGS family, students, parents, teachers and admin facing the challenges of this pandemic together to make sense of it all. Our deepest condolences to the families of loved ones lost in this global health crisis. We are on target to commence the next school year on schedule, on 18 th Au- gust. Congratulations to all our students, supported by their parents and teach- ers to try and find some level of normalcy in these challenging times!

Dear Parents and Students,

We have made it to the finish point of session 2019-20. What a year it has been! This year we can‟t get together to celebrate our year end class party but I‟m sure there won‟t be a shortage of good wishes and blessings coming your way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Middle School parents for trusting us with their children everyday. We would not have been able to move forward without their continuous support and understanding. We look forward to seeing you all virtually for PTM‟s followed by soft cop-ies of report cards. Each of you will get an appoint for a virtual session for feedback on your child‟s performance over the year. Please make sure you attend these to better understand your child‟s strength‟s weaknesses and ar-eas for growth and improvement. Students should cherish the new experiences gained this year as this new system of education is going to take over our lives partially or completely in the days to come. You all have done well and should be proud of what you have achieved so far. Finally, a big thank you to all my teachers, IT staff and admin for their hand work and dedication.

My prayers are with you. Stay well, stay safe. Hector Fernandez

Dear Parents and students, I hope you and your dear ones are well. I know many members of the CGS family have been affected, even losing loved ones to the pandemic which is raging through our country. Please accept our deepest condolences. My students must be very traumatized, confused, frightened and looking at their elders for answers. But more than anything, this pandemic has finally torn back the curtain on the idea that those in charge, know what they are doing. But we, at CGS, know exactly where we are heading, ready to help anytime in the day or night. Our Counselors are constantly reaching out to the students to help them find their way through this fog. Since the 15th of March, restrictions on large gatherings and mandates of physical distancing, forced schools across the country to shut down in-person classes and transition to online learning began. CGS was very well prepared. Members of our teaching staff, supported by the counselors, the admin staff, the team of internet technocrats, have been working relent-lessly since then. Their team work is phenomenal. All this could not have been achieved without the full support of parents and students, who were with us throughout the scramble, to find the per-fectly secure teaching platform. Thank you. Finally, my advices to you all; this is a time to come together, to stand up for and join up with, everyone who is struggling. My prayers are for you. Stay very safe. Mahine Khan
