Preface

Welcome to SourceCon’s guide to the wonderful world of

Chrome extensions. This is our 23rd installment in what will be

an ongoing series of short books on Chrome extensions. Each

month, this digital book will introduce you to eight Chrome ex-

tensions.

Each extension will be broken down by title, where to find it

and of course, how to use it. Each extension (the good, the bad

and even the ugly) will be dissected and closely examined. A

ranking system will be added to each extension with five

thumbs-up noting the highest rating, and zero for the exten-

sions to avoid. Ease of use, ease of installment, provided re-

sults, and placement is all factored into the rating system. Keep

in mind new extensions are added almost every day, and old

ones are expiring just as quickly. At the time of publication,

each extension in this book is alive, doing well and helping us to

better source candidates.

Acknowledgements

I have been thinking long and hard about writing this and other

books. Thanks to the love and support of my wife Bettina and

About the Author

Dean Da Costa is a decorated veteran and recognized sourcing expert with

more than 20 years of experience. He writes The Search Authority, one of

the most influential blogs in the business.

Dean began his career while in the military, connecting the dots from re-

sume writing to making employer contacts for fellow service members

who were entering civilian life.

Dean is a renown blogger and conference speaker. His tools labs are

amongst the most attended in our industry.

Dean is best known for his work in the highly difficult security and mobile

arena's, and the gold star winning numbers he produced. His keen insight

and creation of groundbreaking tools and processes, to enhance and

change staffing as we know it, have proven he is a "staffing thought lead-

About Chrome and Chrome Extensions

Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google. It is fast, simple and very secure to

use. There are three different versions of Chrome.

Chrome – For everyday users

Canary – Designed for developers

Chromium – Open source version

This e-book will focus on extensions and applications specially designed for Chrome. Google

Chrome is ideal for its ability to sync its settings, bookmarks, extensions, and add-ons. With

Chrome, you can log into it on any computer and within minutes have all your extensions, add

-ons, bookmarks, passwords, etc. right there ready to go.

Installing Chrome is easy and simple. Just click install and follow the directions for any other

program. Once installed go to the about tab in settings and make sure you have all the up-

dates and then enjoy.

Chrome extensions are mini-programs that can add the capability to your usage within the

web browser. You can find many of these extensions within the Chrome Store, which is locat-

ed at the bottom of the extensions tab in your Chrome settings.

Settings can be found by clicking on the three lines in the upper right corner of your browser.

Once you are in your settings, you will also see the option to check a box called “Developer

Mode.” Check this box as this will give you the option to update your extensions manually.

Not all extensions automatically update, so having this option is huge.

Chrome Web Store Launcher

If you are going to begin your venture into the “Wonderful World of Chrome Exten-

sions,” you have to start with the Chrome Web Store Launcher. Once installed it will

place a clickable picture on your ribbon allowing you to open and search the store with-

out wasting the time of going through the setting.

The picture below shows the ribbon, the web store picture and what it looks like when

you open it. With this extension downloaded, its time to download more extensions for

efficient sourcing.

The Good: One stop shopping for Chrome Extensions and Applications.

The Bad: There isn’t an effective way to organize them from newest to oldest.

The Ugly: Search is not accurate or reliable.

Final Verdict:

Free LinkedIn Email Finder SalesQL

SalesQL is an email finding tool that works within LinkedIn and provides you with 100

free profile credits per month. You go to the profile you want, click the extension in the

ribbon, then add that person to your contacts. Once there, the magic happens. In the

picture below, you see what you get as I added two people to my list. You will notice a

robust profile as well as multiple emails, both personal and professional. Of course, you

can also export the list as well.

The Good: Does the job, works great in LinkedIn, and find emails, and 100

free a month is huge.

The Bad: It would be nice if you could get the contact information without

adding to a list. It would also be nice if it worked on other sites than just

LinkedIn.

The Ugly: N/A

Productivity People Aggregator Miscellaneous

Free VPN

Free VPN is exactly what it says; it is a free VPN for you to use when you need to appear

like you are someplace else. It is fast and allows for a boatload of choices as far as where

your new IP address will be from. It also provides for a random choice VPN. Click the

icon in the ribbon, pick the country or random and you are ready. They regularly update,

which is excellent, and it is always free and easy to use. In the picture below, you see the

tool and some of the choices.

The Good: This may be the best, and easiest VPN there is and it is FREE!

The Bad: I don’t believe in perfect or 5 stars, but this comes really close.

The Ugly: N/A

PreContact Tool

Precontact Tool is an email finding tool that works on LinkedIn. The Precontact Tool searches

through public and subscription databases, much like a metasearch engine would. Using mul-

tiple sources increase your chances of finding contact details. It shows emails and phone

numbers, which makes it simple and easy to use. Just go to the profile you are interested in,

click the extension in the ribbon. Once open, click: show contact details of the current profile,

and within seconds you will have it. The tool also makes it quick and easy to copy emails and

phone numbers.

The Good: This tool does as advertised and works well. Its quick, accurate and

easy to use.

The Bad: It would be nice if it worked on other sites.

The Ugly: N/A

IP Whois

IP Whois is a simple but very effective domain information extension. It sits in the rib-

bon and will automatically show you the flag of the country where the site is hosted. Al-

so, it allows you to get the IP address, a map with longitude and latitude, DNA infor-

mation, and the Whois information, which can include name, address, phone and email

of the website owner. Additionally, it provides Alexa traffic rankings, as well as access to

the Web Archives from that website. Below you see what it shows for the Chrome web

store.

Good: It works well, and provides more information than any other similar

extension that I have tested.

The Bad: Would be nice to see a list of related/connected sites.

The Ugly: NA

People Aggregator Miscellaneous People Aggregator

Kendo

Kendo is a tool that finds email addresses on LinkedIn. You get 30 when you sign up for free

and a new one every day, so 28-31 a month (depends on how many days in a month). It

will also find phone numbers on occasion and sits in the white area of LinkedIn but is

moveable. In the example below, you see what it showed me. It is an excellent email

lookup that quickly finds emails of prospects while browsing the internet. It is also useful

for building a targeted leads directory.

The Good: This tool does what it is meant to do, and seems to find a lot of

emails.

The Bad: Would me nice if it found more phone numbers and worked on more

sites.

The Ugly: N/A

Productivity

PIPL

PIPL is a website that allows you to find information on a lot of people, supposedly over

three billion. Of course, like most exceptional products, it is not free. However, it does have

a Chrome extension, that can provide you some excellent information if used correctly. The

extension allows you to hover over an email or phone number and with just a click you can

see additional information that PIPL has on it. In the example below can see what they

have on me using one of my lesser known emails.

The Good: The tool works great for what it does, and can provide great intel.

The Bad: It would be great if it could also work on names.

The Ugly: It does not play well with some other extensions and websites.

Final Verdict:

Miscellaneous People Aggregator Miscellaneous

Talentful.ai

Talentful.ai is a sourcing tool that works on LinkedIn. It provides a lot of information to

include contact information, a skills summary, school rankings, social media links, and

more for the person you are looking at on LinkedIn. When you get to a LinkedIn profile,

you will see the icon in the white area and click on it, and there you go. In the example

below, you can view what it says for Steve Levy.

The Good: Works well and provides a lot, and you get a lot for free. You also

get access and the ability to create lists and see them at the Talentful site.

The Bad: Like all LinkedIn centric tools, it would be nice if it worked on other

sites.

The Ugly: NA

UberConference Screen Sharing

UberConference Screen Sharing is an extension that works with the Uber extension that I

talked about in “the Wonderful World of Chrome Extensions” volume 2. This extension al-

lows you to share your screen fast and easy. Oh, and it's also free. It works behind the

scenes, so no button pushing or anything needed. Below, you can see the extension work.

The Good: It allows Uber to share your screen with others.

The Bad: It would be nice if you did not need this to share your screen using

Uber, but you do.

The Ugly: N/A
