Maybe you can break out some of the gear you found under the tree and win some money. Some interesting developments coming from FWC on fishing regulations. There are new spotted sea trout catch and size limits going into effect February 2020 for our inshore folks and a fish descender and releaser requirement for offshore sinker bouncers. No date set yet for the descender as I write this, but the talk is early 2020. Our weigh master is on top of both of these issues and will be communicating specifics to everyone as they become available. Last month I spoke about our new sponsorship agreement with CCA and their 2020 STAR Tournament. I can’t tell you all how excited we are about this partnership, and if you are not familiar with Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and STAR, check them out on the web. While you grown- ups can win a truck or boat by catching one of their tagged red fish, kids can win scholarships by just sending in a picture of a fish they caught. We are supporting the kid’s division and next September, some lucky Flagler County kid will win a $5,000 scholarship, compliments of The Flagler Sportfishing Club. So, member parents, make sure you sign up your junior anglers (and you too). I would love to keep the money in the family. See you at the meeting or on the water! My wish to all of you for a healthy, happy, wealthy and fishy 2020. As we all settle down to our more normal routines after overindulging the last few weeks, don’t forget the chili cookoff at our January meeting and the Sheepshead Tournament scheduled on January 25th. Maybe you can break out some of the gear you found under the tree and win some money.

Some interesting developments coming from FWC on fishing regulations. January Fishing ForecastCapt Jim Britton

saltytalesfishingcharters.comHappy New Year to all! If you are like me, you may have resolved to catch more fish this year (and if you have followed this report, you know that my resolution is always the same!). My plan to accomplish this is quite simply to attend fishing club meetings, to gain knowledge from members and guest speakers, and to keep a fishing log (if you already keep a log then refer back to past years to aid in planning your trips). Logs can be quite basic (a simple notebook or day planner), or elaborate (professional fishing journals, smartphone apps, or other electronic media). So far, we have seen a fairly mild winter, therefore, our inshore fishing patterns are shaping up similar to last years bite. Even though our water has not become crystal clear yet, the temperature is dropping. Therefore, January should provide us with a nice sheepshead and black drum bite. Target these fish around docks, bridges, and deep holes with structure, using fiddler crabs or shrimp. You will also find

some nice sea trout patrolling these same waters. As the sun warms the flats up, redfish and flounder can be targeted in the shallows with artificial baits (Fish Bites – Fight Club, Zman, and Berkley Gulp all have been working well), or live finger mullet. If the wind will allow a trip to the ledge, January is a great time to target trophy wahoo! High speed trolling ballyhoo with dark skirts (red, purple, blue, and black combinations are popular) or noisy naked lures (also using dark combinations) should entice the big ones. The bottom bite should also heat up as the temperature drops (make sure to check the ever changing regulations for closures and bag limits). Grouper, sea bass, trigger, and cobia should be waiting for a meal. Drop down live sardines or pinfish or cut sardines or squid to see which baits will ignite the bite.Tight lines and much happiness to all in 2020!

Annual Club Christmas/Holiday Party Wrap-UpI would like to thank everyone for making this years Club Christmas party a wonderful success. Our event was held at Halifax Plantation Golf Club on December 14th. We had 154 people, the absolute best attended party by members in the history of the club. The evening started with check in, and each lady received a Christmas Ornament and name tags were given out. The socializing began with drinks and appetizers of coconut shrimp, beef duxelle encroute, crab and lobster stuffed mushrooms and spanakopitaI. The music played softly, as members cruised the Chinese auction tables, the Yeti Tanker filled with beer, liquor and snacks. Of course, what would a club function be without a 50/50! Dinner was served around 7pm. The evening continued with dancing the night away with a good mix of music provided by Captain Kirk. This year, we tried something a little different with gifts for children. We used a local group called Christmas Come True that was a great success story for the club.

I wish to send out a special thanks to all who attended the event, and to all my special helpers. Without the help of volunteers who give of their time and talents, many of these events would not be possible. So thank you Ellen, Amy Beth, Carol, Redempta, Edie and Bill, Mark, and Mary Ellen. Lastly, a special thanks to my husband, Chuck.Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year to you all. See you in the new year! Pat Gleichmann

A great big THANK YOU to all the club members who supported our Christmas Come True initiative this year! We provided support for over 40 children in Flagler County with toys, clothes, bikes & scooters, that perhaps would not have had any Christmas. When you watch this project come together, it is truly amazing how they just make it all work! Distribution day on December 19th was an amazing day, and for not only the recipients of the gifts! It is a truly humbling experience to participate in this project! A big shout out to Nadine King & her support group at Christmas Come True who provided Christmas for over 450 children in Flagler County this year. They are truly an amazing group…Thank you for all you do! Thank you to everyone who chose to contribute. Rita Waddell, Christmas Come True coordinator

Come join the PARTY with our first social event of 2020- THE CHILI COOK OFF. For all those new members and old ones, let me explain what that is. We ask that anyone wanting to participate, bring their favorite chili. Judging will happen during the first part of the club meeting. The three winners will be announced just before the break. Winners will recieve a gift card. At the break, everyone will have the opportunity to try the chili and decide for themselves, which they think is best. Chili must arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 PM. Please bring enough for other members to taste, as well as a serving spoon/ladle, and if your chili needs sour cream or cheese, bring it as well. The club will supply corn bread, bowls, spoons and napkins. Please come join in and meet some of the other members, while standing in line for your tasting!

Weighmaster Report for JanuaryNovember’s Fish of The Month was Snook, won by Mark Heffley with a 10 pound 2 ounce fish. Mark chose to receive his $50 gift card from Hammock Bait & Tackle. This is another one of our great annual sponsors.

December’s species was Whiting with a minimum length of 11 inches. The weigh slips for December haven’t been collected yet, so we don’t know the winner. However, in November Shawn Barnett weighed in a 2 lb 7 oz whiting, just a month too early.

January’s Fish of the Month will be Black Drum.

At the time I am writing this report, no one has weighed in a Grouper or Amberjack for the yearlong tournament. So hopefully someone will catch these offshore species before year end.

This month I will be determining the winners of each species in the Yearlong Tournament.

The overall species Leaders and Full Point Standings are available on our Website: http://sportfishbase.com/members/,and in the latest Chum Line publication delivered by Email.

Thanks for everyone’s support, and if you have any questions, please let me know. Chuck Radloff, Weighmaster (386) 569-1584
