American Society of Civil Engineers Duluth Secon 1 Greengs! For my first President’s message, I figured I would start by giving a brief introducon. I was born and raised in the Duluth area but went to college in Grand Forks and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Civil Engineering. I was then hired by Marine Tech as a field engineer, primarily performing surveying and quality control dues on certain projects, and now as project manager of many different types of waterfront construcon, dredging and pile driving projects. As far as ASCE history goes, I was a student member in college and didn’t immediately connue my membership when I became a professional. It wasn’t too long before a good friend of mine, and fellow UND grad, Tom DesMarais got on the board and hustled me into a newly vacant Treasury posion in 2013. I was inially hesitant, but couldn’t be happier about the decision to join. I have worked with a lot of great people on the Duluth Secon board and met even more during our monthly meengs. I have also been lucky enough to aend several ASCE conferences/assemblies where I learned what the society actually does for our profession and its members. It has been incredibly beneficial, both personally and professionally, and also quite fun. You don’t hear that too oſten when working on volunteer boards, but it has been a great ride working under other local leaders on this board, now we’ll see how it goes as President… In closing, I hope to see all of you at this year’s monthly meengs! I also can’t forget to menon our 100 Year Anniversary coming in 2017 for the Duluth Secon. Those of you interested in being a part of the planning please contact myself or one of the board members and you can join the Centennial Subcommiee. We are very interested in group input/ideas for the centennial, but more importantly we are very interested in volunteers to help be part of planning the event! Have yourselves a good day and I look forward to carrying the torch this coming year as ASCE Duluth Secon President. Greetings!

For my first President’s message, I figured I would start by giving a brief introduction. I was born and raised in the Duluth area but went to college in Grand Forks and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Civil Engineering. I was then hired by Marine Tech as a field engineer, primarily performing surveying and quality control duties on certain projects, and now as project manager of many different types of waterfront construction, dredging and pile driving projects.

As far as ASCE history goes, I was a student member in college and didn’t immediately continue my membership when I became a professional. It wasn’t too long before a good friend of mine, and fellow UND grad, Tom DesMarais got on the board and hustled me into a newly vacant Treasury position in 2013. I was initially hesitant, but couldn’t be happier about the decision to join. I have worked with a lot of great people on the Duluth Section board and met even more during our monthly meetings. I have also been lucky enough to attend several ASCE conferences/assemblies where I learned what the society actually does for our profession and its members. It has been incredibly beneficial, both personally and professionally, and also quite fun. You don’t hear that too often when working on volunteer boards, but it has been a great ride working under other local leaders on this board, now we’ll see how it goes as President…

In closing, I hope to see all of you at this year’s monthly meetings! I also can’t forget to mention our 100 Year Anniversary coming in 2017 for the Duluth Section. Those of you interested in being a part of the planning please contact myself or one of the board members and you can join the Centennial Subcommittee. We are very interested in group input/ideas for the centennial, but more importantly we are very interested in volunteers to help be part of planning the event!

Have yourselves a good day and I look forward to carrying the torch this coming year as ASCE Duluth Section President.

The Younger Member Group (YMG) of American Society of Civil Engineers – Minnesota Section is proud

to announce that the 2017 Central Region Younger Member Council (CRYMC) will be hosted in

Minneapolis. The event will be held on February 3-4, 2017 at the Marriott City Center in downtown

Minneapolis.

To make the overall conference a success, the Minnesota YMG would like to offer you the

opportunity to support our efforts as a sponsor of the event. As a sponsor, you will not only show

support for the younger members in attendance, but will help us facilitate special events at the

conference that will bring student leaders, younger members and Section and Branch leaders

together for networking and fun.

CRYMC is an annual regional conference that is held in conjunction with the Workshop for Section

and Branch Leaders and the Workshop for Students Chapter Leaders. All three conferences fall

under the overall Multi Region Leadership Conference which brings together civil engineers from

Minnesota to Texas and Colorado to Ohio (ASCE Regions 3, 6 and 7) to develop and enhance their

leadership skills, receive greater exposure to the organization, operations, and resources of ASCE,

and network with fellow peers and colleagues.

The Minnesota YMG hosts are responsible for providing presentations and networking activities

for all Younger Member delegates in attendance at CRYMC, as well as many combined activities

with the rest of the student, Section and Branch leaders in attendance at the Multi Region

Leadership conference. This year, we have the unique opportunity to showcase ASCE’s IMAX

production, Dream Big: Engineering Wonders of the World. Conference attendees will get a sneak

peak of the film before its worldwide release on February 17, 2017. This will be an exclusive red

carpet event at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. http://macgillivrayfreeman.com/dream-big/

Your interest and participation in the event will help promote the great state of Minnesota while

bringing fellow civil engineers together for a weekend of collaboration and continued building of

our society’s infrastructure. With your financial contribution, you can show your support of

leadership development of young engineers and help us make the 2017 CRYMC conference an

outstanding experience and an event to remember!

Please refer to the attached flyer for the various sponsorship levels and benefits. All sponsors will be

recognized on the Minnesota YMG conference website (http://www.ascemn.org/2017mrlc), in

printed conference materials and at the Friday night event. If you have any questions about the

conference or sponsorship program, please contact Tim Lamkin by phone at 612-845-5265 or by

email at [email protected].
