Crazy weather again this year. One day it is in the 80’s and sunny, the next in
the 50’s and cold and wet. But spring is definitely coming. Time to start
working outside and do some of the spring cleanup. That includes both your
home and the Hall. There is cleanup to do at the Hall, grass to be cut and
general outside cleanup (inside needs lots of work also). Come and help us.
Our normal 2nd Saturday of the month work mornings continue—be a part of
it.
Our fish fries are going super with more people than last year. Everyone
thinks the food is wonderful and plentiful. If you are not coming every week
to help us work, then the least you can do is attend and enjoy a great meal.
The larger crowds have also turned it into a social event with people staying
around to socialize.
Our St Patrick Day dinner/dance was an event I hope you attended and if you
did not, then you missed a great evening. The corned beef, cabbage and pota-
toes were enjoyed by all. The Irish dancers from PTC came for their 10th year
and were a tremendous hit. They danced their Irish dances for a half hour.
After they were finished, our disc jockey, Jim Raymer, put on the electric slide
and all the dancers loved it. These girls took to the floor and had a great time
for 25 minutes more as Jim just kept playing song after song and these girls
knew every dance and really put on a show. If you were not there, you missed
a great time.
The Knights again will be working at the church for Holy Week. Holy Thurs-
day and Good Friday we will be at Founders Hall at 10 AM to set the room up
for Holy Thursday evening service and Good Friday to set the Hall for the
Friday evening service. We will also be doing parking patrol and shuttle ser-
vice on Easter morning to keep the cars moving in the parking lot. There will
be some parking pattern changes this year hoping for a better traffic flow. We
will have more golf carts and with the different traffic flow, we will need more
workers. More info will be coming out soon, so if you can give us a little time
that Sunday morning, it will be a big help.
The parish picnic is on May 6th and we will be doing setup, takedown and
cooking for this event. Again, the more help we get, the quicker it goes.

Gentlemen, this month’s news letter input is about future events. For several months we have asked you to find time in your schedule to volunteer for specific planned events. All events still require your assistance. However I would like support from our Spanish speaking Knights and anyone who has a passion for soccer. As a council we would like to increase our foot print within the parish. We have a need to develop a Spanish speaking 1st degree exemplification team for our council. I would also like a volunteer (s) to translate our news letter into Spanish. I have used Google translate several times, however I was recently made aware that the trans-lation was not as accurate as I had hoped. We need your assistance. I would like to resurrect the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge if I can find a volunteer or two to pick up the baton, are you that Knight? We have several events happening in April that require your support. Our first event in April happens this weekend with our Founder’s Day Memorial Mass and Dinner. It is followed with all the events associated with Easter. Public Affairs Notes: If you have an article that you would like to have included in our newsletter, please submit it to me by the 15th of the month. Please forward or print a copy of our newsletter to one of our Brother Knights without an email so they can keep up with what we are doing. Fraternally, David Hinckley Deputy Grand Knight Public Affairs Officer If you have not been to a council meeting in over 6 months make it a point to come to this month’s meeting. Our meeting is a pot luck, Rosary at 6:30 PM, 7 PM pot luck dinner begins. 7:30 PM our busi-ness meeting begin by 8:30PM we are done.

The Ladies Auxiliary has certainly been busy these past few months - our BBQ Dinner, cooking and baking for the KOC volunteers at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the weekly fish fries and the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Dance. We received many compliments and thanks for the variety and amount of food we provided the Knights for the race week-end. We need to continue supporting our Knights with desserts for the fish fries. Thank you.
Gayle Wolfson and Anna Schroeder volunteered for the Nominating Committee. If asked, please consider saying yes to one of the open positions.
A change has taken place at the Concession Stand for Bingo. For quite some time we have dealt with complaints about our flat tasting Orange and Twist sodas, so we have converted to selling these flavors, along with Ginger Ale, by the can. It has been a success. Ginger Ale has been a nice caffeine free addition.
The parish mission has been a needed renewal for me and the talks by Father Dennis were excellent. Went to the morning talks which was new for me. The Mary Mauldin room was filled daily.
Please keep in your prayers Irma Fitzgibbon, Randy Schroeder, Paula Morgan, Ed Kleppinger, and Pete Bom-bardieri. I hope I have not forgotten anyone who needs extra prayers.

We are also starting a Senior breakfast on the 2nd Wednesday of each month after 830 AM mass. Our first breakfast will be on
April 12th. Again, we need workers to accomplish this – come and be a part of the team. It is not hard work and these events are
very enjoyable to work.
As you can see, we continue to keep busy and support any function at the church that needs our assistance. We are the right arm of
the church. Be a part of these events and join us.
Have a wonderful Easter and if you have any questions about what we do or need more info, just let us know.
Vivat Jesus.

Late-19th century Connecticut was marked by the growing prevalence of fraternal benefit societies, hostility toward Catholic immigrants and dangerous working conditions in factories that left many families fatherless. Recognizing a vi-tal, practical need in his community, Father Michael J. McGivney, the 29-year-old assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn., gathered a group of men at his parish on Oct. 2, 1881. He proposed establishing a lay organi-zation, the goal of which would be to prevent Catholic men from entering secret societies whose membership was anti-thetical to Church teaching, to unite men of Catholic faith and to provide for the families of deceased members.
As a symbol that allegiance to their country did not conflict with allegiance to their faith, the organization’s members took as their patron Christopher Columbus — recognized as a Catholic and celebrated as the discoverer of America. Thanks to Father McGivney’s persistence, the Knights of Columbus elected officers in February 1882 and officially assumed cor-porate status on March 29.
In addition to the Order’s stated benefits, Catholic men were drawn to the Knights because of its emphasis on serving
one’s Church, community and family with virtue. Writing in The Columbiad in 1898, a year be-fore he was elected supreme knight, Edward L. Hearn wrote that a Knight should live according to the virtues of loyalty, charity, courtesy and modesty, as well as “self-denial and careful respect for the feelings of others.” Fraternity and patriotism were added to the Knights’ founding princi-ples of charity and unity in 1885 and 1900, respectively.
• 1882: The Knights of Columbus is born on Feb. 6, 1882, when the first members choose Columbus as their patron. Immediately after the Order’s March 29 incorporation, Father McGivney sends the first diocesan-wide appeal for new members to his fellow priests.
• 1886: By the end of his four-year tenure as supreme knight, James T. Mullen personally presides at the institution of 22 of the first 38 councils. John J. Phelan is elected to succeed him and is the first supreme knight to sense the Order’s destiny as a national society.
• 1890: Father McGivney dies Aug. 14, 1890. His funeral Mass is celebrated in Thomaston, Conn., four days later.
• 1895: The Vatican’s first acknowledgment of the Knights comes when Archbishop Fran-cesco Satolli, apostolic delegate to the United States, writes a letter extolling the “merits of this splendid Catholic organization” and giving the Order his apostolic blessing.
