Researchers examined the

suggested that literacy skills at

While exploring human body system,

fifth graders created their own working

models of human body system which

demonstrated the physiology of body

systems. It was indeed a pleasure to

watch our budding scientists assemble

different organs together with skill and

precision! The digestive system and res-

piratory systems were the highlights of

the lot! It was encouraging to witness

students reuse articles that have been

recycled.

Math

Weaving the story is fun! Camping can happen inside the class!!

Little weaver birds in Grade 5

Story telling technique is one of the ways in which

children build their creativity! It was indeed a

pleasure to watch our students weaving stories

that were mind boggling! Using the resources

available in class, children supported each other to

build a beautiful beach side camp!

Sitting besides the fire camp, they narrated a sci-

ence fiction in which the little Ozies help human

beings protect the Ozone layer from the harmful

rays that depletes the Ozone layer.

It was interesting to watch the budding story tell-

ers develop a science fiction by helping one anoth-

er through story weaving technique! This is a very

handy technique to encourage students who are

shy to speak in front of a large audience.

Look what’s in your tummy! Interview with school nurse Human laboratory!!

religions. They further inquired into the unit by

choosing one religion to learn about in detail and

made an information text in the form of a poster.

Students presented their religions to their peers

of the story ”The old lady and a crow”.

Students were also given an opportunity to talk

about the artefacts which they brought from their

Students play the Human Knot game Students try to help each other to turn around without breaking the

knot

As part of Conflict Resolution, children played a

team building game called “Human Knot”. The

purpose of this game was to develop co-operation

& communication skills. After the game, children

reflected on their behaviour; how they could have

communicated better and how listening to their

team-mate helped them to form a better team .

Math

Students counting the steps to esti-mate

Students counting trees to estimate

To learn about the concept of Estimation, the task for

Grade 3 was to go around the school guessing the

number of objects or things, and then count them

again to see how close or far their guesses were.

Children guessed and counted the number of steps

they needed to take to get from one point to another,

they counted the number of trees along the basketball

court sidewalk and number of windows on the front

side of the staff quarters.

While the Children had a lot of fun walking around

and being independent learners, the post activity dis-

cussion made them aware that estimation is about

trying to guess a close number to what they are trying

to find out. It also made them understand that they

used some form of rounding or skip counting strate-

gies to estimate.

English

Students playing plurals game in the circle area

Learning English through Games

Grade 3 played a game on Singular and Plural

nouns as reinforcements.

Each player had a card with a question and an

answer. The game began with a student who

had the start card and a question on a plu-

ral/singular form of a noun. The student having

the answer stands up to reveal the answer and

then asks the next question. The game contin-

ued till the last student reveals his final answer

and the END card.

Children had a lot of fun playing this game. They

were so enthusiastic that they even ended up

blurting out the answers even without their

answer cards or out of turn.

Grade 3 made Placards and message cards for the

International Peace Day. The children learnt about

the significance of Peace Day and the bell that rings

at noon at the United Nations. On their Placards,

they drew a symbol or wrote about what Peace

means to them. They were part of the whole

school Peace March.

CIRCLE TIME

Students share their feelings during Circle time

Every morning during circle time, Grade 3 children

talk about their feelings and share stories with each

other. They also reflect on some good moments or

negative moments as a class or individually.

They take turns to ‘conduct’ the circle time.

Circle time allows our young learners to exhibit

some aspect of social and communicating skills.

They also become good listeners and reflective

Letters to Children in Sudan

Cards made by Grade 3

As a part of our action cycle, children in Grade 3

wrote letters and made cards for their friends in

Sudan. Students had learnt that a large percentage

of refugees are children in Sudan, so they felt em-

pathetic and wanted other children across the

world to be happy. Writing a letter was a way to

express their feelings and the same was sent

through a UN representative who works with refu-

gee children.

Role plays on friendship Appreciating and bonding time

Our first unit of inquiry was about

“Friendship".

This was a clear inquiry into the nature of the

self. Children began to realize themselves in a

role of friend. Through discussions and exam-

ples, children pondered on how they them-

selves can make and keep friends, how friends

should be treated, and how their actions

could affect friendships, both positively and

negatively. The areas of personal and social

health were also touched upon as children

recognized the feelings associated with friend-

ships and how important these relationships

are to our social well-being. Children had the

opportunity to inquire into why we need

friends, valuing the relationship and pondered

upon these necessary human relationships.

Math

Students counting objects in 5’s Counting using 5 fingers

Grade 1 was involved in an activity to learn

counting in 5’s as they counted objects in the

class. The students picked 5 objects of their

choice and arranged them in an order. As

they kept counting the group of 5 objects

they could understand that it was a quick

way of adding five to the previous number.

Students traced their hands and counted in

5’s to make a display of the numbers repre-

senting 5-100

English

Students identifying the parts of a book Role play on Friendship stories

In language, we will continue reinforcing

vocabulary and reading fluency. By identifying

story characters, plot, setting, problems and

solution, students read carefully to learn the

details. They are able to name the different

parts of a book and understands the role of

the author and illustrator. The students are

able to fill the graphic organizer to show the

elements of a book or story. This improves

students' comprehension and provides them

with a framework for identifying the ele-

ments of a story.
