Attending a train- ing course takes time away from the job respon- sibilities, but can produce results far beyond your expectations. A formal training course creates a learning environment that develops skills that leads to increased knowledge. Training can be the differ- ence between barely man- aging your business and successfully managing your business. You can experience some of the benefits that training of- fers: informs you about efficiencies that can result in financial gain; develops your knowledge and skills about technologies and methods; and provides an opportunity to solve prob- lems using new skills. I want to grow in this industry, learn new things and amaze people every chance I get. My name is Brittany Stanley, I own Spot- light Events - Wedding Planning & Event De- sign. I have helped decorate and plan hun- dreds of Weddings in the past 6 years. My friends would describe me as a perfectionist, and I believe you have to be to truly succeed in this industry. I absolutely adore my job, my clients and my team, and treat each and every Wedding as if it is my own. A year ago I set out to finally make the move to start my very own business. I knew what I wanted, I knew what Brides wanted, and I knew how to decorate and plan weddings. However, I didn't know the first thing about starting a business. I needed help. I was listening to the radio one day and heard about CBDC, and thought maybe they could help me move things along. I remember the first time I met Gertie from CBDC, I was so nervous! I knew what I had to do to make this business work, I just had to explain my idea to a stranger first for the first time. Gertie was so friendly and down to earth, and from the first meeting onward, I knew she believed in me. Gertie and CBDC opened the doors I needed to get funding and were there anytime I needed help. The day everything was finalized, Gertie was genuinely happy for me. I am so thankful for all they did, helping me follow my dreams. I don't want to ever say "That's as good as it

gets". I want to grow in this industry, learn

A gorgeous blue gown, a well worn ski-doo suit, jeans and a pair of curtains all hang in a sunlit room

overlooking the sea and the islands of Tors Cove. The “shore“ it is said is where the faeries live, goats

talk and dreams come true, if you work hard enough. For Vickie Walsh, owner of SEW FAR OUT a life-

long dream is coming true.

The Entrepreneurial Training Fund is established to assist CBDC clients in accessing business

management training by helping to cover up to 90% of the cost of eligible training. This allows

the client to take advantage of necessary training to assist in the success of managing their

business. In addition to individual training, group training workshops are also offered in a vari-

ety of topics.

CBDC Celtic held two Social Media group sessions in November 2014, “Facebook for your

Business” and “LinkedIn for Business”. Allison Stoodley facilitated the two full day ses-

sions which provided entrepreneurs, small businesses, and not-for-profit participants with

insight and guidance for effectively navigating the digital and social media world.

Another training session was held in Febru-

ary 2015, “How to Increase Sales”. Brenda

Kelleher Flight of GDP Consultant facilitated

a well-received workshop on Sales for

small businesses.

All three workshops were well attended and

participants received valuable information

and tips for their businesses.

CBDC Celtic is seeking a Youth Ventures Program Coordinator, pending funding ap-

proval. The Program involves promoting and fostering entrepreneurship among students

from Goulds/Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove to Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay. The position will be

based in Ferryland and requires travel throughout the region.

Qualifications should include: a good knowledge of small business; business plan develop-

ment; word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software; strong communication and

interpersonal skills; and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Preference will be

given to individuals who have completed or are currently enrolled in a business degree or

business studies program. Access to a vehicle is required. Only those selected for an in-

terview will be contacted.
