In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and all the
strides he took to make justice and equality the norm of
today, Elementary students participated in a Peace
March on Friday, January 16th. Students made signs
and banners representing Peace and Equality, and then
got to hear poetry and essay excerpts written by fellow
students. They finished off with a very heart-warming
Peace Walk around the center field.
March for Peace
Give peace to the world.
No violence or fighting.
Give peace to the world.
Must share and care.
Give peace to the world!
Let everyone have freedom.
Give peace to the world!
-Fiona Cunningham, 3rd Grader
The Fly Guy series
catches young read-
ers typically in
grades 2—5, and
gets kids reading
and loving it. Fly
Guy has adventures
and experiences
that will keep your
readers wanting the
next book. Funny
and entertaining, it’s
a good one for par-
ents to read aloud
with their child as
well.
There are currently
19 Fly Guy books,
including 14 in the
series and 5 special
Fly Guy Presents
books.
The Yearbook needs your help! We’re searching for

Ways to Support
your Student
From Home from www.avid.org
Talk to your student about school
Be aware of your student’s classes and his/her perfor-
mance in each. Praise your student’s strengths and
help him/her find ways to improve in areas of weak-
ness.
Ask to look at your student’s binder.
Review your student’s tutorial request forms to see what
kinds of questions he/she is asking in class.
Find out who your student’s friends are.
Be enthusiastic and supportive. Your student’s partici-
pation in AVID will keep him/her motivated and excited
about reaching the goal of attending a four-year college
or university.
NO BAKE HAY STACK COOKIES
