25th STASCo vessel refit
LNG carrier Al Rekayyat marks STASCo’s (SHELL)
25th vessel repair at N-KOM since its opening in
2010. The 216,200m3 carrier underwent general
drydocking and repairs at the facility, highlights of
which include modification to the purifier steam
heating line, stern tube machining and seal re-
newal, propeller edge modification and corrosion
repairs on the blades, LSMGO boiler modification
and HIMAP for switchboards. In addition to these,
modifications were also carried out for all cargo
tank pump tower sliding pads.

Schneekluth duct installation for Maran Tankers N-KOM has carried out its first Schneekluth duct installation for Maran Tanker’s
306,093dwt VLCC Maran Corona, sistership of VLCC Maran Carina which was docked in
N-KOM last month. The installed duct system not only enhances vessel propulsion and
performance but also decreases vibration and tension damage on the vessel.
Key repairs carried out during the drydocking period include propeller removal to facili-
tate aft stern tube bearing repairs and steel renewal to facilitate hull repairs.

General repairs for Vela’s Almizan Star Vela International Marine’s VLCC Almizan Star has undergone drydocking
and general repairs, similar to that carried out for three of its sister vessels
previously at the shipyard.
Key work-scope carried out:
Upgrading main engine main bearing
Renewal of main ballast spools
Removal, inspection and pressure testing of main cargo line, main IG line
and bunker line
even on short notice. Safety standards
in the yard is the best I’ve seen in the
region, with the team readily proactive
and receptive to suggestions.
Would you come back again to N-KOM
for subsequent repair jobs?
I would definitely want to come back to
N-KOM for future repairs. The shipyard
understands our requirements and has
continuously delivered results.
How has your experience at N-KOM been
so far?
This is the fourth Vela docking in N-KOM
and I have been very pleased with the
performance of the team so far.
In your opinion, what differentiates
N-KOM from other yards you have been
in?
N-KOM has a very well equipped facility
overall. I have not encountered any prob-
lems with the availability of resources,

The N-KOM Offshore team has successfully completed 209,774 man hours with a zero LTI rate on the Khafji Offshore project in the North
Field. In recognition of the team’s efforts and safety excellence, they were awarded with a certificate of appreciation and a small token
from our clients (Kuwait Gulf Oil, Saudi Aramco & Technip) during a recent Safety Award ceremony. Commenting on the occassion was N-
KOM’s Project Manager Mr Suresh Kumar Pappiah, who said: “The safe and successful completion of the project would not be possible
without the strong partnership and co-operation from both parties. We are very encouraged for this endorsement of our safety culture and
will endeavor to continuously deliver service excellence.”
Over a period of three months, the N-KOM team assisted with installation of cables, pre-commissioning, commissioning and rectifications
on the process, utility and living quarter platforms, of which the team’s primary work-scope were commissioning of instrumentation, pipe
testing and cabling.

situated in the North Field. In addition to
fabrication work, our team of engineers
were also responsible for the development
of the sea-fastening and lifting plan for the
deck, which was loaded onto the offshore
platform on 15 September 2013.
“It has been a pleasure working along such a commit-
ted group of people led by a great project manager.
The team displayed remarkable teamwork and co-
operation. Their efforts complemented with the ship-
