On June 6, nearly two weeks after the incident, Transport Canada filed a report about the sightings of a "large drone" near the flight paths of the two planes.

The report says that the WestJet pilots spotted the drone on the plane's left side at the same altitude of

the plane, about 6,700 feet. The Air Canada flight was flying at 8,000 feet when its pilots spotted the drone about 1.8 kilometres to its left, flying about 2,000 feet below the plane's altitude.

The drone headed to the southeast at 37 to 55 km/h on radar and was lost

at about 4:55 p.m. ET, the report states.

Facts about drones

Commercial and “pro” consumer drones cannot achieve 6700 feet

They are restricted to 1500 feet

GEO-mapping in high end drones prevent them from flying in G restricted airspace and near airports

The best available drones can only fly for up to 14 minutes while at their maximum altitude and speed

3 – 4 high powered batteries would be required to fly for 25 – 30 minutes

seen near the Ottawa airport, according to a Department of National Defence spokesperson.

The drone was spotted by the pilots of WestJet Flight 366, from Toronto to Ottawa, as well as Air Canada Flight 458, also from Toronto to Ottawa.

The WestJet pilots flew past the drone as the Boeing 737 plane was descending into the Ottawa airport at about 4:45 p.m. ET.

The pilot's call to the airport's air traffic controllers was recorded by the website liveATC.net, which monitors air traffic con-trol communications across the globe. "Just to let you know we just flew pretty close to a drone at 6,700 feet," a pilot can be heard telling air traffic controllers.

The pilots of the Air Canada flight spotted the drone on their descent in an Airbus A320 just a few minutes after the WestJet flight spotted it.

"I can see the drone," a pilot can be heard telling air traffic controllers in another recording.

The scrambled fighter jets were not able to locate the drone when they arrived and the jets returned to CFB Bagotville, according to DND. The RCMP is investi-gating.

out that they "feel" there was more to it than there really was. I'm sorry but "feel" doesn't cut it. It isn't evi-dence, and it's not something that can be scientifically proven. I think what some Field Investiga-tors are thinking is that no one will question their conclusion, and it will be case closed. That just isn't true. The better the sighting, landing, abduction case, or whatever kind of case it may be, the more evidence is needed, and more in-depth inves-tigation is definitely required. The evidence has to be able to stand up to scrutiny, and as much supporting testimony from witnesses as possi-ble should be gathered. The more witnesses an investigator talks to, the better they will be able to put together a comprehensive picture of what happened. One witness, and little or no evidence does not make a very convincing case.

There is no such thing as taking too many pictures to support a case either. Remember to take them from the four cardinal directions,

and remember to use a photogra-phers scale so there will be a size reference in the picture. You also want to remember to take pictures wherever evidence is found, looking straight down at where the evi-dence is situated, and making sure to include the evidence number and the scale in the picture. I would rec-ommend using a tripod whenever possible. So evidence is gathered, witnesses have been interviewed, and photo-graphs have been taken. Sounds like everything is done, right? Wrong. The Field Investigator also needs to know about the weather conditions that day, and any astro-nomical data that might have a bearing on the investigation. One would look pretty ridiculous if they ignored a meteor shower while in-vestigating a sighting of a fireball. Flight data needs to be considered too. Any air traffic in the area needs to be accounted for, and a check of

#34: Investigation vs.

That 'Ol Gut Feeling

I often get emails asking me how one can become a Field Investiga-tor with MUFON, and I am always more than happy to help someone along the way to becoming one. I know that there is a lot of hard work involved, and there is a lot of ground to cover in many different disciplines of science. So when I hear someone utter the phrase, "I have a gut feeling about this one," or some similar remark, I can't help but cringe. Since I don't have the world's best poker face, I'm sure it has not gone unnoticed. MUFON's mission statement is: "The scientific investigation of UFOs for the benefit of all humani-ty." Not the 'crystal ball' method. I hate to say it but I've seen cases where the witness as much as said that the object in question was probably something that they just couldn't identify, only to read the Field Investigator's report and find

The largest available drone is only 2 feet in size – highly unlikely to be seen at 1.8Km away

ATC would have seen this drone on radar approach-ing so close to the plane but it just suddenly ap-peared

The Air Canada flight also saw the “drone” 2000 feet higher and 5900 feet away

Military drones can not fly at 37-55 kph

Military drones are not detected by ATC radar

If a home made drone extremely sophisticated and using hacked drone CPU controls

“DRONE” IS THE NEW BUZZ WORD FOR PILOTS TO OPENLY REPORT UFOs

The investigation is in the witness search phase and still ongoing. Chief Investigator Canada Dave Palachik

August 3:

Five of the solar sys-tems 8 planets and the earth’s Moon will be visible in the evening sky shortly after sunset.

Gavin McLeod is an amateur astronomer and monthly column writer of “The Night Sky” for the MUFON magazine.

Before the advent of drones, UAVs and Sky Lanterns, astronomical objects were often misperceived as flying objects, particularly Venus.

any local missile tests, or live fire exercises at any military installa-tions in the area should be done as well. One should also consider if there are any holidays, or publi-cized events going on at the time, where those attending might be inclined to light Chinese Lanterns, or some such celebratory device.

One should also know the terrain around the area. Fortunately we can use Google Earth now to see exactly where a sighting occurred, and we can even use it to measure the distances involved. As you can see, there is a lot that must be considered when investi-gating a sighting. If one makes the

mistake of relying on only the re-port, and their feelings, they can be assured of coming to the wrong conclusion. As a Field Investigator it is imperative that each case be ap-proached with an open mind, and that the evidence is what the con-clusion is based on……...not your gut feeling.

This will be the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, this year it is la-beled an outburst with twice as many meteorites as normal, instead of seeing about 80 Perseids per hour, the rate could top 150 and even approach 200 meteors per hour," It will be the first such out-burst since 2009. Normally meteor-ites are not reported as UFOs un-less they are significantly larger and brighter than normal. The best ob-serving is after midnight in a dark location.

Saturn Mars and Antares will be close together in the southern sky after sunset. Mars and Antares are both reddish in appearance, Mars was named after the Roman god of war which the Greeks named Ares, Antares (Anti Ares) and Mars can be close together and similar in bright-ness so it is assumed that Antares was so named to indicate it was “not Ares”. Mars is considered to be the possible home of some form of life beneath the surface.

How To Identify Astronomical Objects. Most astronomical objects we observe in the night sky follow predictable paths around the Sun. Sometimes these objects may appear to exhibit unusual behaviour depending on viewing conditions and cloud/ weather conditions.

There are tools that help with identification. A basic non digital tool is a Planisphere commonly called a star finder or star wheel. If you have a Royal Astronomical Society (RASC) Centre in your area, they sometimes provide a simple version for free. Commer-cial products are available from

Sighting: Montreal Quebec

Date: September 30, 2010

Witness: Doctor Cleve Ziegler

FI: Andre Morin

BGE: 21.64

Lights morphing from two triangles to trapezoid and back. Moved erratically then disappeared

On September 30, 2010 at 1 o'clock A.M., Ziegler saw a bizarre flashing object in the sky for about four minutes. The doctor was driving along Cavendish Boulevard, Mon-treal near the intersection of Kildare Road when he saw that strange sighting. He parked his car and got out to get a better look at that un-known object. The pattern of mo-tion of that object in the sky was erratic. It was moving up, down and sideways. It was like two invert-ed triangles in the shape of a bow tie morphing into the shape of a trapezoid.

That object was many little sparkly red and blue lights. It could not have been fireworks. The lights blinked. The distance of that object to the witness was approximately one thousand meters. The silent object appeared in the sky above Cavendish Mall in Cote Saint Luc. Ziegler was shaken as well as certain of what he saw and he said, "This left me with the deep sense that I had seen something not from this planet."

"It was coming closer and [then moved] farther, it was turning and rotating."

He then saw other people looking up at the same thing, including a man who told him his wife was so spooked that she scurried home.

"I'm a guy who spends a lot of time in the country in the summer. I have seen satellites. I've seen falling stars. I know what a plane looks like. None of those things had the trajectory or motion that this did," said Ziegler.

Ziegler called police, who had al-ready received several other calls about the mysterious object in the sky. He forwarded a dark, poor-quality video he took on his cell-phone to authorities.

He admits the video doesn't do jus-tice to what he saw "What I saw was compelling, unusual and you had this visceral sense looking at it that this is a once-in-a lifetime thing," he said. "At a risk of sound-ing Hollywood and schlocky, it was kinda not of this world." Object likely man-made: astronomer Theories about what was in the sky Wednesday night have already started circulating among astrono-my buffs and experts. Andrew Fazekas, a director at the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, said the object was likely of this world. "From the description, defi-nitely I would say it is not something astronomical. It's not a satellite. And it's not a star or anything like that," said Fazekas. "It could have been some sort of

balloon.… Strobe lights on a pri-vate? A powerful laser?" Fazekas said the sightings are getting a lot of attention. "It is starting to make the rounds and getting viral because people are naturally interested in unidenti-fied things in the sky. People are drawn to it," said Fazekas. Police close brief investigation Montreal police received several calls about a mysterious object in the sky after midnight Wednesday morning. Const. Daniel Lacoursière said Tru-deau Airport reported nothing on the radar in that area at the time. He posed another theory. Around the same time, helicopters were buzzing around the site of a fuel spill at the Port of Montreal in the other end of town. Ziegler said he doesn't believe in extraterrestrial life, but thinks he did see something otherworldly. "It's not like I want to believe this," he said. It could have been a balloon, a blimp, a drone or a kite with lights on it, but I think that it is unlike-ly. There is a fair chance that the object was not man-made and was not a natural phenomenon. If it is a hoax made by other highly skilled persons, it is incredibly and ex-tremely well designed. Other per-sons saw that same sighting. Hi folks,

The 2016 edition of ACE (Alien Cosmic Expos) was a success for MUFON as in we able to sign up new members/FI’s from Montreal, Thunder Bay and Calga-ry. The event itself made international headlines when Victor Viggiani released secret NORAD documents stating the U.S. and Canadian military track and intercept UFO’s. The ACE event is making the big jump from Brantford to Toronto next year, June 23-25, and organizers have asked MUFON Canada to partner with them. It will be a big opportunity for us to sign up new members, raise our profile and public awareness. We will need as many volunteers as possible next year. This past June there were 10 of us who volunteered at the MUFON table, networked, listened to speakers, shared happy hours and meals together…it was great! Let me know if you can help. Our own MUFON Interna-tional Symposium is this Aug 25-28 in Orlando.

Hopefully I will see many of you there!

Cheers, Stu

If you had the pleasure of attending the ACE symposi-um in Brantford this year and would like to leave com-

ments, please go to link shown below.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GDWNXRX

We will be featuring new and exciting speakers from around the globe.

The symposium will feature hard core ufology present-ers plus the link between paranormal and the UFO phe-nomenon. Experiencers and holistic therapies will con-tinue to be a feature of ACE.

International Space Station

The space station is a microgravity laboratory of science, technology and human innovation. It demonstrates new

technologies and makes research breakthroughs not possible on Earth.

Orbits at altitudes of up to 450 km above the Earth.

Travels at a speeds of up to 28,000 km/h.

Orbits the Earth once every 90 minutes.

Has an internal pressurized volume of 32,333 cubic feet.

Weighs almost one million pounds. (925,000 pounds).

The 55 foot robotic arm can lift 220,000 pounds.

Primarily astronauts from USA, Russia and Canada.

More than 200 astronauts from 15 countries have occupied the ISS.

The solar panels that power the station make it the brightest object in the sky, after the moon.

The ISS has been continually occupied since November 2000.

the space station – which is currently home to British astronaut Tim Peake.

But if the new angle was supposed to cover up the “alien spacecraft” it failed – as the object can still clearly be seen in the background.

The change of camera proves the object is really there and not just a spot on the lens.

NASA mysteriously cut its live video feed just after a UFO appeared near the International Space Station – sparking claims of a cover-up.

Astonishing footage, which was broadcast live by NASA, shows what appears to be a diamond-shaped object near the space station in orbit above Earth.

But the live feed was suddenly cut as the object appears to edge closer and into focus.

The shocking video has sent conspir-acy theorists and UFO hunters into meltdown.

Despite being far away, the object looks massive and seems to be flying high over the Earth below.

The UFO appears to grow larger and larger as the clip continues – until the screen suddenly turns blue.

And when the feed restarts it is fo-cused on a different angle, showing

“AS the UFO came closer and began to come in focus, the screen turned blue.

“NASA always turns the screen blue if they see a UFO in an attempt – a failed attempt mind you – to hide it from the public.”
