Advanced technology is sometimes difficult to integrate into the market place. The funny thing with new technology is that people generally want new systems but it takes time to teach and understand the difference from traditional systems and that can slow things down. Our goal was to understand our customers’ needs and at the same time put our theory to the test. What better way to do that than to build the ultimate power supply and show it off on the road. The 15.7 kW Volta Power Energy Storage System was installed in a 2004 Prevost XL. The coach was configured for an executive day coach originally designed with a 21kw diesel generator and 6 8D AGM batteries inverting 12V to 120V. The Volta team converted the coach by installing a 31kW Li Ion Battery System in the place of the 6 AGMs, replaced the 12V inverters with 2 – 48V-120V inverters, and supplemented the original 12V power with the following: 1-48V-12V converter, cables, displays, alternator, regulator, cables and other accessories. We made no changes to the internal wiring of the bus or conversion wiring. All of the modifications where done in the original battery compartment. During the trip the RV conducted 14 industry presentations and the following accessories were
powered using the Volta Power Energy Storage System to provide more comfort and more enter-
tainment than other RVs on the road today using battery power:
During all of our stops the Volta Power System was able to provide continuous power
for more than 8000W of accessories for 6 straight hours before charging.
Charging the system took only 4 hours
Using the Volta Power Energy Solution allowed for more reliable power for more
comfort and entertainment accessories with more bene"ts.
