I John 5:3 The Medical Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony for the year 2016 was held on the 7 th of November, at the Ida Scudder Auditorium. The ceremony marked the coming together of the Institution in an atmosphere of gratitude to God for His guidance, particularly to the postgraduate students. The chief guest of the occasion was Dr. M.S. Valiathan, National Research Professor, Manipal University, formerly a Professor of Cardiac Surgery and the Director of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, for two decades. He has been recognised internationally, for his contribution to medical science and technology and was awarded with the Padma Vibhushan in 2005. Graduation Ceremony 2016 for Medical Post Graduates The ceremony began with the time honoured tradition of the Jasmine Chain carried by the final year medical students, led by the Student Association President. The postgraduates’ faculty and the chief guest followed them into the auditorium. Rev. Dr. T. Arul Dhas, Chaplaincy, opened the programme with prayer, and it was followed by a prayer song by the medical students and the College Song thereafter. Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy, in his welcome address, introduced the chief guest to the gathering. Vice Principal, Dr. Joy S Michael gave the charge to the postgraduates, advising them to be lifelong learners, committed to serve the poor and needy in our country. Principal, Dr. Anna Pulimood then administered the pledge to the postgraduates. In his address to the postgraduates, Dr.M.S.Valiathan encouraged the students to work for a seamless integration of the medical profession with technology and industry for taking up research and development in medical technology. He further emphasised that India has enough capital, resources and intellectual powers to develop and implement affordable technology and challenged the postgraduates to discover this spirit and become agents of change. The Lamp Lighting Ceremony 2016 of the College of Nursing was held on 28th October,2016, in the Scudder Auditorium. At this solemn occasion, 200 first year Nursingstudents dedicated their lives to the noble profession of Nursing. The chief guest,Dr. Jaya Kuruvilla, Principal, College of Nursing, P.D. Hinduja National Hospital & MRC,Mumbai, emphasised that besides advanced technology, compassionate care is essentialto be efficient nurses. Dr. Selva Titus Chacko, Dean, College of Nursing, who gavecharge to the students, expressed the significance of the Florence Nightingale Lamp and

the ceremony itself. She called upon students to be lights that will dispel the darkness of illness and pain.

Dr. Mary Kurien, Professor and Head, Ear, Nose & Throat, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry,lighted the Florence Nightingale lamp that was presented to the College of Nursing by Dr. Ida S Scudder andfelicitated the students.

This was followed by the lighting of the College lamps by the faculty, after which thestudents received their lighted lamps from the Dean and Mrs. Florence Segaran,Deputy Nursing Superintendent, pledging to be ardent nurses in the healing ministry.

The ceremony was concluded with prayer and benediction by Rev. Ananthi A Mary,Head of Chaplaincy.

Shiloh is a Tamil prayer programme which has beenconducted by the Directorate (Missions), Chaplaincy andPersonnel Department for Group C and D employees fornearly 6 years now. The main aim of this programme is tobring God-centeredness into day-to-day work life andfamily life.

As in previous years, this year too, it was conducted in theHospital Chapel between 12th and 14th October, 2016. Mr. J. S. Anbu, Director, CIM, Chennai, the speaker, challengedthe participants to give God a chance to spearhead their lives. Dr. Sam David, Missions Office, extended his felicitation atthe close of the programme,which saw a packed house response on all three afternoons.
