Members and Friends of Archwood UCC, This is a formal notification and invitation to an all congregation meet-
ing to be held Sunday, October 21, 2012 directly following our 11 a.m. worship.
The purpose of the meeting is to determine our best financial option to
cover expenses related to pressing building safety and maintenance issues
and any possible shortfalls we may experience in our current year budget as we
move toward year end. All members and friends are invited to attend; members
will be asked to vote. Please plan to attend this important meeting.
All Congregational Meeting
Stewardship Committee Needs You Do you have an interest in helping to promote Archwood’s long-term financial viability? You may know
that the church works hard to use our financial resources wisely to meet our financial obligations, which in-
clude our partnering contributions to local organizations and the wider church. After thoughtful consideration,
the Governing Body has decided it would be beneficial to have a Stewardship Committee that convenes soon
as we anticipate our fall stewardship campaign, but then continues to work throughout the year to promote and
support a wider variety of good stewardship efforts in our faith community.
This year-round format is prompted by an increased awareness of the limited success of putting all our
efforts into a fall stewardship campaign. Successful and engaging stewardship cannot be relegated solely to
one traditional approach. And stewardship is not just about money. Year round stewardship means making the
best use of all we have and being ever more creative in how we pull together our efforts to gather the resources
we need to do ministry. We are looking for people with a desire to think and work creatively using such tools as
fundraisers, grant research and writing, partnering with community organizations that share a part of our vision,
etc. in order to help us maintain our regular expenses while expanding our community outreach. We will have
our first meeting in late October (day and time to be determined). If this is something that appeals to you, and
you’d like to be a part of it please contact Pastor Sara or any Governing Body member. We would greatly appre-
ciate your help! Archwood Governing Body
Congratulations Mike! Archwood member Mike Schuenemeyer has been selected as one of the recipients of this year’s LGBT
Heritage Awards given by the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland. The award ceremony was October
9, at City Hall. Mike stated, “The leadership of the UCC on LGBT concerns is really what is being rewarded —
bringing visibility to our Faith In LGBT justice and equality in Cleveland and the world.” Thanks for your hard
work Mike!
Brookside Center Needs Brookside Hunger Center needs our help in supporting their 900 families during the
upcoming holiday season. Archwood will be collecting donations of the items listed below over
the next several weeks to help Brookside fill their holiday boxes for Thanksgiving and Christ-
mas. If you want to donate turkeys, chickens , hams, or eggs (perishable items) you will want
to make arrangements with Brookside directly to determine the best method for providing your
donation. Their number is 216-749-4295. Non-perishable items may be brought to the church
and placed in the shopping cart in the sanctuary, and we will transport them to Brookside during the week.
As you’re able, any of the following items can be used by Brookside Center to help those in our commu-
nity: Tuna, Peanut Butter, Rice, Stuffing Mix, Onions, Boxed / Fresh Potatoes, Fresh/Canned Yams, Eggs, Gravy,

Evaluating our Ministries Members and friends of Archwood will be invited over the coming months to

experiencing the various ministries of Archwood UCC: worship, Christian education, out-
reach, social justice and so on. Worship will be the first topic discussed. Dates will be
announced in The Archway, at the Sunday service, and by e-mail. The process will be led by the Pastor-Parish
Relations Committee as described in an Alban Institute book, Completing the Circle, by UCC minister David
McMahill. Questions? Please contact Pastor Sara or PPRC Chairperson Dale Lindsey, [email protected].
Turkey Jam Dance, November 10, 5 -9 p.m. This will be a potluck with a Harvest, Thanksgiving Theme. Joeletta will provide the music for our
