Dear All,

It came to us all as a pleasant relief when we learnt late in September that Standard & Poor's had

upgraded its outlook on India's sovereign rating to stable from negative. The agency felt

confident that the country's new government would be able to implement important changes

in how Asia's third-largest economy is managed. It is no coincidence that this came in the

middle of Prime Minister's visit to the United States of America and the string of positive vibes

that it created.

I am also happy to note that the CII Business Confidence Index (CII-BCI) for July-Sept quarter

FY15 has shot up to 57.4, up from 53.7 in April-June quarter and 49.9 in Jan-March quarter this

year. During the same quarter last fiscal, the index had touched the all-time low value of 45.7.

The number 50 is the dividing line on the index between positive and weak business

confidence.

I feel that overall the mood seems to be quite positive. We have scaled new heights in Science,

literally, and our Mars project is being hailed globally. This reinforces our claims for Make In

India.

You may be aware that the new government has set into motion a series of reforms in

governance. Trying to ensure timeliness to quick decision making and putting in a system of

transparency are some of the laudable initiatives. While the tangible results would take some

time to fructify, all these actions by the government has unleashed a wave of positivity.

For 'Make in India' move, efforts are on to create a business-friendly environment. The idea of G

2 B has come back into limelight. We must leverage this for our gain. According to some

estimates, our cotton and apparel exports are likely to rise by upto 10% this year. Also, the rise

in textile shipments from India—currently around 4.5% of world trade—may eat into top

exporter, China's 36% share of the market and will be a boon for Indian textile merchants keen

to exploit rising demand stemming from weak cotton prices and global economic growth.

Now that the ball has been set rolling by the government – on reforms and rejuvenation - it is

time for us to consolidate ourselves. Let's try and make the best of the positive environment all

around. The systems are being streamlined and businesses are gearing up to align themselves

of the new enthusiasm. It is only prudent, that we too wake up to the opportunities and make

the best out of this.

By the time, this issue is with you, you must have celebrated with all joy the great festival season

concluding with Diwali.

My Best Wishes for you and your family.

With best wishes,

Ravi Jhunjhunwala

Adieu 16

Dear All,

The Gold Medal in Hockey at the Incheon Asiad Games came as an icing on cake for a nation which has

been in a celebratory mood after the historic success of Mars Orbiter Mission of Indian Space Research

Organisation (ISRO). It boosted our morale – coming as it did after 16 years – and gave us reason to

reassert ourselves.

It is also heartening to see almost an ebullient response to the call for Clean India. For the first time in the history of the country, a

seemingly unfocused issue but with huge significance, has captured the imagination of all. Rich, poor, elderly, children, women and

people from all professional fields have joined the call for Swachh Bharat by the Prime Minister. It was also inspiring to see that some

of our Textile units have taken a good initiative in this regard. As a corporate group committed to Indian values including that of

cleanliness, it is our duty to join the national call. Let's commit ourselves to this good cause.

As we all are aware that we are living in momentous times , it is imperative for us to remain competitive and relevant. Modern

organizations are getting highly efficient and the role of each one of us including workers is getting smarter than ever before. There

is more transparency, better integration of technology and a set of robust values and work ethics drive the work culture. Same is true

for us. Therefore , as an organization, we have to constantly reinvent and align ourselves with changing times. The organization

creates all the right opportunities for all of us to excel and flourish – it is up to us to grab the opportunity and make the most of it.

An interesting piece to share. A recent survey by PwC Strategy of 30-odd leading Indian companies that represented around 15

industries revealed that barely 3% organisations are "ready for growth" phase. The bulk of organisations surveyed - 80% - fall short

of realising their growth potential as a result of being "strategically adrift", "distracted" or "capability constrained". Around 17% of

Indian companies that were "in the game" for the growth phase are hindered by lack of performance-centric culture and talent

management, hemmed in by infective governance and inadequate risk management. We shall have to be at guard against these

pitfalls.

Our Chairman has emphasised it time and again that we need to prepare ourselves to still better performance and seize all

opportunities for growth, and all of us should strive our best to give the Best !

With all cheers, joy, success and wealth to you and your family for Diwali and the festival season.

With best wishes,

T. Dev Joshi

Pleasure is not the goal of man, but knowledge. Pleasure and happiness comes to an end. It is a mistake to suppose that pleasure is the goal. The cause of all the miseries we have in the world is that men foolishly think pleasure to be the ideal to strive for. After a time man finds that it is not happiness, but knowledge, towards which he is going, and that both pleasure and pain are great teachers.

are a matter of concern for safety of our employees. The roads being cut

through dense and steep forests at various places makes it difficult to

rescue the people at certain times. Hence, to prepare ourselves for any

kind of emergency, it is required to be rehearsed and set the things right in

time.
