Funeral services are now set for

the late Claude “Rick” Roberts

who passed away on Thursday

March 21, 2013. On the morn-

ing of Saturday March 30th at

the Christian Rescue Mission

located at 3229 Hadley Houston,

Texas 77004, a viewing will take

place from 9.00 AM until

11.00AM with the funeral serv-

ices to follow. Roberts will be

buried at Paradise Cemetery

North.

Claude “Rick” Roberts was born

on November 11, 1941 in

Sunnyside area of Houston,

Texas. His father took him to see

disc jockey George Prather of

KGBC in Galveston and he fell

in love with radio announcing.

Prather is said to have been the

first black in the southwest to

have a live radio show. He was

broadcasting while in a wheel

chair.

A few years later in elementary

school Rick got a chance to

meet Vernon Chambers who was

on the radio at KCOH AM 1430.

That really inspired Roberts to

go into the broadcast industry

even more.

In 1958 while in the 10th grade

at Worthing High School

Roberts entered and won a radio

talent contest at KYOK AM

1590. Taking first place and

winning a scholarship to Texas

Academy of Broadcasting he

went to work at KYOK part

time until he completed the

course. In 1960 Rick graduated

from Worthing and started his

career at KYOK AM 1590. But

the winds of change blew in and

he moved to WBOK in New

Orleans, Louisiana and worked

there until 1967. Among his

honors he actually covered

Hurricanes Betsy and Carla in

1963 and 1964.

Returning to Houston in 1967,

Roberts would begin with the

morning drive from 6.00AM

until 10.00AM and hold that slot

for more than 21 years. Going

on to become program director

and station manager as well as

becoming the best voice in the

South when it comes to adver-

tisement. During this tenure

Roberts would hire such legends

as Wash Allen, Don Samuel,

Ralph Cooper, Susie Stillwell,

Little Rickie Williams, Michael

Harris and Tommy D.

Armstrong and many more.

Early 1990 Roberts took over

the program at KTSU and he set

new standards for the college

radio station and helped to build

it into what it is today.

Due to health issues Roberts

retired in 2000 and concluded

more than 42 years of communi-

ty services and touched many

lives in the process. In 2007

Roberts was honored with the

Fiesta Lifetime Achievement

Award.

The broadcast world lost a leg-

end but Rick Roberts will live in

the hearts and minds of those of

us who loved him the most. Rest

in Peace Rick!

Dallas, Texas-As we made our

monthly trip to Dallas this time

around we were behind the

wheel of the new Jeep Patriot

Latitude 4 X 4. First let me say

the vehicle handled the road

very well. The 2.4-liter in-line

four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve

Dual VVT engine gave us plenty

of power and yet we got some

good economy numbers. Taking

into consideration the gasoline

in Dallas was nearly four dollars

per gallon. Our test vehicle

lived up to the reported 21 miles

per gallon in the city and 26

miles per gallon on the highway.

The inside of the new Patriot

was what caught my attention

due to the fact our test vehicle

was priced at just under

$26,000. We were impressed

with the interior space and the

overall comfort of the ride. The

stability on the highway at high

speeds also was a pleasant sur-

prise for us as well. The front

seats met all our standards for a

long haul and the overall dash

layout was pleasant to say the

least. A four spoke leather

wrapped steering wheel made

driving adjustments a breeze.

Sound system is an Uconnect

430 CD/DVD/MP3/HDD with

6.5-inch touch screen display

40GB hard drive with 28 GB

available. Voice command

Bluetooth remote USB port,

Sirius XM radio with one year

subscription available

When you look at the parts con-

tent, 72% of the vehicle parts

are from right here in the United

States and Canada. The final

assembly point is Belvidere,

Illinois with the engine being

built in the U.S. and the trans-

mission built in Mexico.

This vehicle comes with a five-

year/100,000 power train war-

ranty and a three-year/36,000

mile basic limited warranty plus

road side assistance with certain-

ly restriction apply and you must

see your local dealer for details.

On the safety front, the Jeep

Patriot Latitude held its own

with advanced multi-stage air

bags plus supplemental side cur-

tains front and rear air bags.

Anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes

with brake assist and speed con-

trol as well as Hill start assist.

Cargo space is also another high

point for the new Patriot and

when you take everything into

consideration Jeep had done a

wonderful job with the product.

Needless to say we were really

impressed with the overall per-

formance of this vehicle during

our weeklong test period.

In closing when you consider

value along with price this is

definitely a solid buy for this

class.

Austin, Texas-It was great to

make our annual trip to Austin

for the state boys basketball

championship tournament. This

time around we had the pleasure

of taking the new Dodge

Journey Crew and found it to be

simply pleasant. To start with

the Journey Crew is powered by

a proven 3.6 Liter V 24-valve

VVT engine that gave us just

over 25 miles per gallon on

highway 290 all the way to the

capitol city. It offers 20 per gal-

lon in the city and we are proud

to say our test vehicle lived up

to those numbers. The engine is

mated to a six-speed automatic

transmission that we also found

to be smooth shifting.

All this goes to the pavement on

19 inch by 7.0 inch painted alu-

minum wheels wrapped by

P225/55R 19 BSW all-season

touring tires. We are talking

about smooth, nice and easy.

With the front bold facing up

front the Dodge Journey Crew

kind of gives you a flare from

the past but this baby is certainly

up to date. Our test vehicle a

Black crystal pearl coat exterior

paint gave the vehicle an eye

catching look as we pulled into

the media parking lot at the

campus of University of Texas-

Austin. The interior of our test

vehicle came in black, keep in

mind we are talking about a high

gloss black.

Among the standard safety fea-

tures are advanced multi-stage

front airbags, supplemental side

curtain airbags in all rows and

supplemental front seat-mounted

side air bags and anti-lock four-

wheel disc brakes. Throw in

traction control ESC and speed

control this baby is about as safe

as they come.

Other features like remote start

keyless entry N go and a 20.5

gallon fuel tank to put some dis-

tances between stops for fuel.

Inside one can be excited by

such amenities as leather

trimmed bucket seats with heat-

ed feature. The Journey has a

six-way driver seat and tilt/tele-

scopic steering wheel with heat-

ed feature and front power win-

dows with one-touch up and

down feature. The front passen-

ger seat even folds flat while the

second row seats is 40/60 and

forward adjustable while the rear

seats recline as well as fold flat.

One thing is for sure the people

at Dodge gave this vehicle a lot

of research and development

before putting it on the market.

A huge 8.4 inch screen for the

sound system that included

AM/FM/SAT/Nav plus CD play-

er and Sirius XM radio as well

as backup camera greet you.

The 6-premium speakers with

subwoofer equally spread the

sounds from this 368-watt

amplifier.

Warranties for the new Journey

Crew are the standard five-year

or 100,000 miles power train

limited warranty. A three-year or

36,000 mile basic limited war-

ranty road side assistance certain

restrictions apply.

The government five-star safety

ratings from the NHTSA gives

the Journey a four-star overall

ratings. In frontal crashes the

driver side gets five-star rating

while the front passengers get a

four-star rating. The side crashed

gets five-star for the front pas-

sengers and four-star for rear

seat rider and a rollover of four-

star rating.

Only 35% of this vehicle parts

are from the United States and

Canada including the transmis-

sion. While 57% of the vehi-

cles parts come from Mexico

including the engine with the

finals assembly point being

Toluca, Mexico.

In closing please allow me to

add we were impressed with the

new Dodge Journey Crew and

strongly urge you to take a look

at one before you make your

next purchase.

You are a veteran that has served

his country with honor. You

returned and things did not go

well. You may have accrued a

criminal record and work is not

easy to find. What do you do? If

you have been reading here a

while you may remember that in

December of 2011 I spotlighted

the Houston Launch Pad (TLP).

The Launch Pad is an origina-

tion that helps our veterans that

have just such a dilemma. (

http://issuu.com/empowerment-

thursdays/docs/ksv-decem-

ber2011/1 )

Founder Prentice Goods has

partnered with several business-

es that are willing to help our

vets. One such company is

Railworks. I don’t often focus

on a business; but occasionally

one shines so brightly that they

deserve some recognition. About

eighteen months ago TLP and

Railworks struck a deal that

would give our veterans another

chance. TLP takes qualified can-

didates that have earned the

right to a second chance and

trains them to be railroad track

maintenance and installation

workers. First they must prove

that they are drug free and com-

mitted to changing their lives.

Then after a four week program,

they are then permitted to apply

for full time employment with

Railworks. Railworks has pro-

vided many of the equipment

and tools used for this training

and advises the training program

on a regular basis.

Railworks then takes them

through an additional training

period that will qualify them to

be track repair laborers. They

are given a chance to prove

themselves with a crew. To date,

about 20 graduates of the TLP

program have been placed with

Railworks. One has even been

promoted to a crew supervisor. I

recently had the opportunity to

sit down with Bob Rolf,

Railworks Vice President and

General Manager based in

Houston. According to Bob, the

employees hired from the pro-

gram have a much higher reten-

tion rate than general hires off

the street.

Railworks is involved in vari-

ous aspects of railroad track

maintenance. They repair tracks

for railroads and private lines. In

this city there are a huge number

(hundreds of miles) of privately

owned track in ports, plants and

refineries. They also install

tracks for these same people. In

addition, they work with transit

lines in cities including New

York City, Tucson and St. Louis.

They also install signals and

overhead power lines for transit

systems and do Maintenance of

Way (MOW). MOW involves

the upkeep of the track bed and

ties.

Apparently, despite the rumors,

rail is not dead or even dying.

Agricultural products, heavy

machinery, automobiles and

earth products (sand and gravel)

are still moved by rail. Some

lines are even double and triple

tracking to allow increased rail

traffic. An example given is the

lines between St. Louis and

Chicago are being upgraded to a

higher speed that will allow

trains to travel at speeds of up to

120 miles per hour.

Employees placed with

Railworks may be offered a job

one of the many large cities in

the United Stated and Canada

that Railworks serves. Crews of

about five men will go out on

jobs to maintain and repair

tracks damaged by many causes.

This is not easy work. It is out-

side manual labor. It does, how-

ever, offer a decent wage with

benefits.

Derailments are a top priority.

Once the railcars are cleared, the

railroads want the track open as

quickly as possible. Railworks

offers a 24 hour service to han-

dle these needs. Other services

include crosstie replacement and

track bed refurbishing.

Of course, safety is a prime con-

cern with any company.

Railworks is no stranger to this

worry. Employees are constantly

trained and retrained. This is

necessary when people are han-

dling heavy tools and working

around big machines that are on

the rails. Employees may even

receive additional training from

the plant they are working in.

To work in many of these plants

and port areas employees will

have to obtain a TWIC card.

Most people that have minor

offences that are non-violent are

qualified to get a TWIC card.

If you know someone that has a

less than perfect record and may

benefit from this program have

them get in touch with TLP at

713.661.8882 or visit them at

www.houstonlaunchpad.com.

Others that are interested in

employment directly with

Railworks may contact them at

http://www.railworks.com/career

s. The Houston Launch Pad is

also seeking employers that are

willing and able to give these

deserving vets a chance.

Hey lovers is it me or does it

seem love is starting to fade. I

had one guy to tell me that love

didn’t exist. I’m not sure what

he had been through but some-

times in our love lives we go

through things that seem like we

just can’t go on. You know the

saying, once you get knocked

off your bike, you dust yourself

off and get back on and try it

again. Sometimes we are afraid,

and it takes some longer time to

get back on that bike and try it

again, bottom line is that at

some point we have to try again.

Congratulations to Frank and

Juanita, just celebrated their

39th wedding anniversary. I’m

sure there are times when you

are in a dedicated relationship

things might not be all

roses..But if you love that per-

son you will work through some

things(for better or worse). It

seems nowdays people don’t

work through things, but seem

to opt for the easy way out. Our

present society is not as resilent

as couples back in the old days

as we say. Always looking for

the easy way out. What did

Gradma say? No pain No

gain.....or was that Betty Wright,

you know what I’m getting at.

I’m sure Frank and Juanita hadsome times where they couldhave called it quits, but theyhung in there and 39 years laterthey’re looking forward to num-ber 40. ow isn’t that beautiful. Some people say love fades asthe years go bye, I think if it isreally love it should get strongernot fade, what was once a lust-ful love should become astronger unconditional Love, feel me. Fiesta and King Arthur

Productions are proud to

announce the 4th Annual Kevin

Marshall Foundation

Conference, March, and Rally

is scheduled for Saturday, April

20, 2013. The conference will

kick off at 9:30 a.m., at True

Light Missionary Baptist

Church. A march down Main

Street will follow the conference

at 12:00 noon. The march will

end at Burrus Elementary

School, where the Rally will

occur along with a variety of

events and activities.

Since its inception in 2009, the

Kevin Marshall Foundation, a

Ministry Against Gun Violence,

continues its mission of bringing

gun violence awareness to every

person it can, specifically our

kids and young adults. Mrs.

Marshall stated that “her only

son Kevin Marshall was shot

down by an 18 year old while

attending a friend’s birthday

part”. She went on to say that

“she believes the cries of gun

violence, has not only captured

the attention of the city and

state, but the entire nation. We

are in a crisis to save our young

people and thanks to our

President, Barack Obama, who

is leading the country in a plea

to stop gun violence by intro-

ducing legislation to ban assault

weapons; our voice is now being

heard”. She added that “even

though she lost her son, the

Kevin Marshall Foundation

will continue to fight the battle

against gun violence”.

Austin, Texas- With just over 11

thousand fans watched the

Rangers of Rosenberg terry ease

past Dallas Kimball 55-47 to

win the Boys Class 4A state

title. But their offense was not

the key, but sure All-American

Derrick Griffin who lead all

scorers with 26 points and had

14 rebounds. The real deal was

Griffin’s big three blocks as

well as two steals and the other

Knights shots that he changed

the course to led the Rangers to

victory.

In talking with the Miami bound

6 feet 7 inch star we learned it

was part of their game plan to

allow Keith Frazier to drive into

the waiting shot blocking arms

of Griffin. “We told our guards

to let him go and when he

missed we were going to run the

floor”. At one point Kimball,

the two time defending champs

led by double figures but had to

answer for Griffin down low. “I

knew when we were behind I

had to step up and then Eugene

(Wright) and the rest of our

team stepped up as well”.

Grabbing 14 rebounds and tak-

ing home the Most Valuble

Player made for a pretty good

day for the big time player who

simply put his team on his back

and carried them to the state

championship.

The big fellow went on to say

they knew what they had to do

and went out on the floor of the

Erwin Center and got the job

done. “This is a great feeling

and I want to thank God for

this”. Having already played in

the U.S. Army Bowl game as a

tight end, Derrick is scheduled

to play both football and basket-

ball at Miami. One thing is for

sure where ever he plays he will

have an impact on the outcome

of games!

TERRACIA MOODY

PRAIRIE VIEW

Clearly one of the finest runners

in the country, Prairie View’s

Terracia Moody graced the track

at the Alexander Durley

Complex at Texas Southern

University Saturday March 16,

2013. It was the 62nd running

of the TSU Relays but the fun

went to the P.V. Women.

Moody. a redshirt junior from

Longview, Texas won the 400

meters and also ran a leg on the

mile relay which also was won

by the Lady Panthers. The love-

ly and talented Moody exploded

out of the block and never

looked back in the open quarter

where her best time is 54.66.

But back in her days at

Longview High School she was

a 200 meter district champ all

four years and also qualified for

the Region II action in each of

her four years at the East Texas

high school. In the classroom at

P.V. Moody is studying to

become a nurse and works on

his masters in Sociology as well.

When the Southwestern Athletic

Conference Track and Field

Championships take place the

Lady Panthers of P.V. are going

to have a lot to say about how

things shape up. It was good to

see P.V. make a big splash at the

TSU Relays and who knows just

how far this can take them.

By the way the Panthers base-

ball team was whipping TSU on

the diamond and on the same

night the Lady Panthers were

winning the SWAC women’s

basketball tournament for the

third straight time.

DERRICK SMITH

DALLAS MADISON

Austin, Texas-Each time a title

game is played there is always a

player who simply stands out

above the crowd. In the Class

3A boys state title game that

player was Derrick Smith. The 6

feet 2 inch guard had a game

leading 27 points and pulled

down a game high14 rebounds

and had five steals to go along

with three assists and two

blocks. You might say this kid

was all over Jack Yates and the

Lions had no answer for him all

day long. “We saw some

momentum building earlier on

and we never let up”. Smith

went on to say he felt Madison

was a little deeper than Yates

and had plans of running them

down. “We felt if we followed

our coaches’ instruction we had

an excellent chance to win

state”.

For Smith’s effort, he was an

easy pick for Most Valuble

Player of the Class 3A game as

his team rolled to an 85-72 win

over the Jack Yates Lions. This

was easily the most exciting

game of the larger classes to say

the least on the subject. Yates

made 30 of 78 shots and

Madison connected on 29 of 73.

But 24 turnovers hurt Yates as

Madison pulled away at the end

outscoring Yates by 11 points in

the second half after the Lions

only trailed by 2 points at the

break.

The battle was fast and furious

as Yates led by four early in the

first and Madison led by as

many as 15 points in the fourth

period.

DAMIEN MOBLEY

DALLAS MADISON

Austin, Texas- In clearly the

most exciting game of the state

tournament this year the Dallas

Madison Trojans ran past the

Jack Yates Lions 85-72. Head

coach Damien Mobley a Prairie

View A & M University gradu-

ate and his staff of Tracy

Flentroy and Roderick Johnson

did a great job of keeping the

Lions off balance all during the

contest. “We felt all along our

big guys would be an advantage

and plus we felt we may have

been a little deeper than Yates”.

Mobley was referring to

Devonte Robinson 6 feet 9 inch-

es and Kwame Thomas at 6 feet

7 inches. The Trojans also had

6 feet 8 inches J. D. Wallace

along with the sensational

Derrick Smith at 6 feet 2 inches

at one guard and the 6 feet 2

inches Admon Gilder. “We

knew going in Yates was an out-

standing team and we would

have to play the full game to

beat them”. The Trojans finished

the season 32-4.

When asked about the ranking

and how the Lions of JY were

ranked number one in the state

in class 3A all season long he

replied“We don’t put too much

stock in the rankings because we

felt all along we were ready to

play anyone and we were”.

Before leaving the press room

Mobley praised his star guard

Derrick Smith who won the

most valuble player by saying he

played one of his best all-around

games of the season.

MICHAEL JACKSON

ROSENBERG-TERRY

Austin, Texas-Before a huge

crowd of more than 11 thousand

fans the Rangers of Rosenberg-

Terry came from down by as

many as 15 points in the second

quarter to edge Dallas Kimball

55-47. The key was their third

period defense holding Kimball

to only seven points after being

held to seven points in the first

period. “We simply had an awful

first period and found ourselves

only down by eight points, so

we said to our team if we right

the ship in time we still have a

shot at the title”. Jackson went

on to say the Houston Region is

so tough if you can come out of

it then you have to be ready to

face the Dallas Region in the

state tournament. “We felt all

along we had a good shot

because over the last three years

we had been a pretty good team

and to get through the tough

playoff games kind of gave us a

good feeling”.

Jackson is assisted by Randolph

Brown, Brian Henry, Jeff Ives

and Clyde Kiser as the Trojan

went 31-9 to claim the Class 4A

title. Having to face Dallas

Kimball the two-time reigning

champions and a team that had

won three of the last five state

titles Jackson knew the road

would be hard. “Once Eugene

(Wright) got those two fouls it

kind of takes away from what

we wanted to do, but Derrick

(Griffin) came up big and our

team just kind of got rolling”.

The well tested Rangers played

the likes of Fort Bend Travis,

Fort Bend Marshall and Booker

T. Washington of HIouston

Independent School District in

the preseason to get ready for

what they knew was going to be

a long hard fight to the title tour-

nament. “I’m so proud of these

guys and the way we fought

game in and game out.

Here we go again as we present

you another outstanding student

in our series of Fiesta Student of

the Week. She’s the talented and

charming junior Raevyn Rogers

of Kinkaid High School. The

outstanding 800 runner is the top

girls’ 800 meters runner in the

country. Rogers made short

work of the event at the 62nd

running of the Texas Southern

University Relays winning it

going away.

With a love for Science in the

classroom at Kinkaid, Raevyn is

soft spoken but a fierce competi-

tor in the track. The daughter of

former Madison and P.V. star

Rhonda Rogers and Pervis Hunt,

Raevyn is on a pace that could

land her in the Olympics.

Clearly focused on what the task

is ahead, this 11th graders has

got what it takes to make it to

the big time. Raevyn taking her

good looks from her mother

Rhonda Rogers-Hunt as well as

some of athletics skills has been

running the 800 since she was

five years old. “That’s my baby

because I can remember running

the 800 and crying all the way to

the finish line”. Blessed with an

outstanding frame and a solid

growth build this kid is going to

be special before she is done.

With goals of becoming a

Physical Therapist in her adult

life, Raevyn has a love for help-

ing people and says that’s the

most important thing she is

thinking about. “It goes way

back for me and my grandfather

(The late Roland “Bear” Rogers)

use to sit and talk with me to

make sure I understood what life

is all about”. The talented junior

went on to add her mother is

clearly her most driving force in

life and she explained why.

“She calmly tells me when

something is wrong, we seek

God’s help and get it fixed as

soon as possible”. Raevyn went

on to add her mother makes it

clear to her adjustments are to

be made and over the years I’ve

been blessed to make the proper

adjustments with her help.

When asked about President

Barack Obama becoming the

first African American President

she made it clear it’s a wonder-

ful thing. “Oh I’d say Mr.

Obama is an idol for some of us

because it goes to show that we

(Blacks) can pursue the nation’s

chief executive office and win,

he has set such a great exam-

ple”.

On Sundays you’ll find the

Rogers family down at Jordan

Grove Missionary Baptist

Church where the dynamic

Danny Davis is the pastor. “Just

going to Sunday school and tak-

ing in the lessons is a true bless-

ing for me and my family

because at Jordan Grove we are

a very big and very supportive

family”.

Describing herself as a very sup-

portive and helpful person,

Raevyn described what’s the key

to a good life. “You must help

those who are less fortunate than

you are, to serve God and that’s

what I want to do the rest of my

life”. When asked if she would

do anything over again if she

could she said no. “I feel things

happen for a reason and God is

in control of the Universe and

we are to learn from life’s expe-

riences.

On the subject of school changes

Raevyn says she is very pleased

with the administration at

Kinkaid and would not change a

thing if she was in charge. “It’s

an excellent school and our spir-

it would be a 10 and I’m happy

to be here”.

In closing Raevyn gave me

some words of encouragement

when she said pain is weakness

leaving the body. Never looked

at it that way but it’s true and I

will always remember that”.

That’s what makes doing this

profile to rewarding; just think

we wrote the first story on

Rhonda Rogers while at

Madison as she finished second

in the state in the shot put and

now we are blessed to be writing

about her daughter. It doesn’t

get any better than this!

ANDREW HARRISION

FB TRAVIS

Austin, Texas-After the long

wait with a bitter taste in his

stomach, Andrew Harrison can

finally exhale. The senior guard

who along with his twin brother

(Aaron) will be Kentucky bound

this fall with a state champi-

onship trophy to show how they

finished their high school

careers. The Fort Bend Travis

star (Andrew) had 32 points to

lead his team to the Region III

title against tough rival Fort

Bend Bush in the fourth meeting

between the two teams. He fol-

lowed that with a four for four

from the field and nine of 14

from line for his 16 points to

lead all scorers in the Class 5A

title game against South Grand

Prairie. The Tigers clawed their

way to a 46-38 win as Andrew

went a perfect four of dour from

the field and pulled down a team

leading nine rebounds as well

dished out three assists and had

three steals also. More than 12

thousand fans were at the Erwin

Center to witness the game and

Andrew actually had a smile on

his face when it was over. “We

had some good players from

Texas in Hoops and I’m going to

pray to God for what he has

done for m. Having remem-

bered last year’s defeat made us

work harder all season long and

I’m so thankful for this victory”.

Harrison also added guard John

Burnett and forward Daniel

Chika helped a great deal along

with Tyronne Jordan and the

entire team. “Yes sir teams try

to take the ball out of Aaron and

my hands but our teammates

made them pay when they tried

that.

CAMERON BURRELL

FB RIDGE POINT

After a subpar year, speedster

Cameron Burrell is on target to

live up to the family name. The

sprinter from Fort Bend Ridge

Point blasted out of the blocks to

take the 100 meters title in the

62nd running of the Texas

Southern University Relays in a

record time of 10.25. Keep in

mind that was with a 2.8 wind

aid but it still is faster than the

10.45 he had already ran to have

the best time in the nation

among high school boys. It just

so happens this guy is destin to

be great because he is the son of

former University of Houston

sprinter LeRoy Burrell who once

held the title as the WORLD

FASTEST HUMAN. “It’s great

to know someone who has been

to the top in this sport and my

coaches have put together a new

work out for me and I’m just

working hard to achieve my goal

of going all the way this time

around”. Burrell who placed in

the state in his sophomore year

only to fall off during his junior

year says things are working out

well for his this season. While

at the TSU Relays his world

class father who is now the head

track and field coach at the UH

kind of kept an eye on his son

from a distance but Dr. Victor

Keys did managed to get a photo

of the two of them together.

We talked with Burrell about

being in the TSU Relays and the

fact the meet has so much histo-

ry. “Yes sir I know this is a

great stage and I feel real good

about the 100 meters and it

looks like the weather is holding

up pretty good also”. He talked

a little about the head winds in

the earlier events but he felt he

was strong enough to push

through and it worked out well

for him.

The youngster ran the 4 by 100

meters leg and he was felt great

and was really looking forward

to the 100 meters. Did he ever

run a super race in a time of

10.25 and even when you deduct

the 2.8 electronic wind aided is

still near the 10.45 that led the

nation going into the event.

Working on his speed in practice

is now paying off for Burrell and

you are seeing the results at the

finish line!

FB TRAVIS WINS

CLASS 5A TITLE

Austin, Texas-The Tigers of Fort

Bend Travis rallied from a slow

start to win the class 5A title

over South Grand Prairie 46-38.

Both teams came of the gate

with a 6-5 first period lead the

teams would score only 14

points the second period and

Travis only lead 20-19 at the

half. But it was Andrew

Harrison who was not going to

let it go down that way in the

end. The senior who is bound

for Kentucky long with his twin

brother Aaron took charge.

Going to the foul line a game

high 14 times Andrew managed

to sink 9 of them and he also

went 3 of 3 from the field

including the only trey he took

to lead all scorers with 16 points

and hauled down a team leading

9 rebounds as well.

On the other hand his twin

Aaron went 3 of 16 and had 8

points but managed to grab 7

rebounds and had one block and

one steal. But John Burnett hit

on 3 of 5 shots and added a cou-

ple rebounds to help get the

Tigers rolling.

With more than 12 thousand

fans at the Frank Erwin Center

on the edge of their seats Travis

made 12 of their 32 attempts and

had only 5 assists in the contest

also. The 15 point 4th period

was the key to victory along

with South Grand Prairie’s 6 for

26 from 3 point land and Travis

3 of 15 from long range made it

clear both teams appeared a little

tight. Thanks to 18 points in the

paint and 18 points off turnovers

Travis got the job done. Travis

closed the year at 33-5 while

South Grand Prairie finished at

37-4.

Many coaches were talking

about a shot clock is not needed

in high school basketball and

this game is going to add fuel to

that fire and it will probably get

a real good look at the next UIL

realignment meetings.

ROSENBERG-TERRY TAKES

HOME THE CLASS 4A STATE

TITLE

Austin, Texas-The Rangers of

Rosenberg Terry who the class

4A title with a 55-47 win over

Dallas Kimball. The Knights of

Dallas Kimball had their armor

shining with the last two state

championship class 4A titles

under their arm and three of the

last 5 titles as well. But it was

not to be due to the hard fighting

group of guys from Terry high

school just wouldn’t be denied,

at one point trailing by 16 points

in the second period. The

Rangers went to work on

defense and held Kimball to

only 7 points the third period

and 12 in the final period to win

the game going away. Senior

sensation Derrick Griffin did his

thing with 3 blocks and 2 steals

to go along with his MVP 26

points and 14 rebounds perform-

ance. He got help from guard

Eugene Wright who came to life

by making 8 of 13 free throws

and Dimetri Amerson hauled

down 9 rebounds and scored 9

points to give the Rangers some

much needed offense. Wright

talked about how tough it was

going against the bigger guards

from Kimball. “We knew they

were bigger but Derrick told us

to let them go and if they miss

we were going to run up court

and that’s how we got back into

the game”. Wright added they

had no doubt they were going to

get rolling sooner or later.

Billy White scored 4 points but

added 9 rebounds to keep

Kimball to one shot on most of

their possessions in the second

half.

Terry closed out the season with

a 31-9 mark while Kimball fin-

ished 23-10 but has gone to the

state five of the last six years

having won three times and lost

close games in two of them.

DALLAS MADISON ROLLS

PAST YATES FOR CLASS 3A

STATE TITLE

Austin, Texas-More than 9600

fans got up early enough to see

perhaps the most exciting game

of the championship tournament.

It was the Jack Yates Lions of

Houston going against the

Trojans of Dallas Madison high

school. Speed and quickness

was all over the floor at the

Frank Erwin Center. Madison

jumped out on Yates and led it

24-14 after one period, but the

Lions came roaring back with a

24-16 advantage in the second

period to lead by two points at

the half. Madison outscored

Yates 18-14 in the third period

and again 27-20 in the fourth

period. The Lions had won

twice at the state tournament and

lost last year on the class 4A

level. This was the Lions first

trip to state in class 3A while

Madison had been in 2009 and

2010. Derrick Smith hit on 8 of

17 shots and pulled down 14

rebounds to lead the Trojans to

victory. With help from Admon

Gilder who had 19 points and

Eric Robinson who had 7 boards

the Trojans appeared to ware the

Lions down in the second half.

JD Wallace added 8 boards and

8 points as the big presence of

the Trojans gave the Lions fits

down low and it turned out the

be the difference the game.

Devonte Robinson added 15

points on 6 of 7 shooting and

hauled down 7 rebounds as well.

The pace was certainly up tempo

as Yates connected on 30 of 78

shots and Dallas Madison made

good on 29 of 73 attempts.

and 2 boards for the Stallions of

fans in the crowd of 9,622 at the

displeasure in the private school

wining the public school title.

But for the most part it was a

good game until Dallas Triple A

pulled away in the second half

scoring 42 points holding

Mumford to only 25. This was

following a 38-29 half time

score. Mumford actually led by

7 points at 18-11 at the end of

the first period. The Mustangs

had entered the tournament

unbeaten at 38-0 and ended their

One Faith, Is Christ Divided?Note how the apostle Paulanswered this question to thoseof the church of and by Christ,in Ephesus. “Eph 4:3Endeavouring to keep the unityof the Spirit in the bond ofpeace. 4 There is one body, andone Spirit, even as ye are calledin one hope of your calling; 5One Lord, one faith, one bap-tism, 6 One God and Father ofall, who is above all, andthrough all, and in youall.”(KJV)

Dear reader, it is again good, and I hope as always, a blessing,to be able to share some simplebible truths with you. We hopethis article, as in all others, aretaken in the context in whichthey are written. The intent is tosearch the scriptures to find“What is Truth”. Jesus statedclearly what made the ApostlesHoly, right and one with God, ashe prayed to his Father; thesame makes us Holy, right andone with God; “John 17:17Sanctify them through thy truth:thy word is truth. 18 As thouhast sent me into the world, evenso have I also sent them into theworld. 19 And for their sakes Isanctify myself, that they alsomight be sanctified through thetruth. 20 Neither pray I for thesealone, but for them also whichshall believe on me throughtheir word; 21 That they allmay be one; as thou, Father, artin me, and I in thee, that theyalso may be one in us: that theworld may believe that thou hastsent me.”

These articles are not of ours, orno other man’s interpretation, this would be unscriptural. Webelieve through definitions, andthe preponderance of scripturewhich is (Having superiorweight, force, importance, orinfluence of scripture), allowsSCRIPTURE to INTERPRETSCRIPTURE, thereby allowinga better understanding on thattopic. Please read what theApostle Peter had to say oninterpretation, as he was guidedby The Holy Spirit; “2 Pet. 1:16For we have not followed(1)cunningly devised fables[believable error], when wemade known unto you the powerand coming of our Lord JesusChrist, but were eyewitnesses ofhis majesty.17 For he receivedfrom God the Father honour andglory, when there came such avoice to him from the excellentglory, This is my beloved Son,in whom I am well pleased.18And this voice which came fromheaven we heard, when we werewith him in the holy mount.19We have also a more sure wordof prophecy; whereunto ye dowell that ye take heed, as untoa light that shineth in a dark

In today’s religious world, thereare many different ways givenby man, to be right with God.We must remember the order ofthings [chain of command] notethe apostle Paul; “1 Cor. 11: 1Be ye followers of me, even as Ialso am of Christ. 2 Now Ipraise you, brethren, that yeremember me in all things, andkeep the ordinances, as I deliv-ered them to you. 3 But I wouldhave you know, that the head ofevery man is Christ; and thehead of the woman is the man;and the head of Christ is God.”God, the creator, tells the created(creature), through his Son,Christ Jesus, how to be right[righteous] with Him. It is notuncommon to hear one ask“what faith are you?” This is alegitimate question becausethere are many faiths. It is alsonot uncommon to hear this state-ment “go to a Church of yourchoice”. This is also a legitimatestatement, seeing that there areso many different Faiths. Wehave even heard the statement“there is nothing in a name;we are all worshipping thesame God”. If “there is nothingin a name”, why are there somany, in the religious worldtoday? Lord willing, in thismonth’s article we will attemptto prove [try or test] by scripturethese, what we believe to beerroneous statements that are socommonly made and believed

by man (see 1Thes. 5:21).

As we have stated before, manstrive to be different, in faiths[which are beliefs, and or reli-gions], in names, in practices, intraditions, in doctrines and inbaptisms, which advocates divi-sion. This is contrary to theinstructions left by Christ, through his Apostles. We submitthat names advocate ownershipand doctrine. The theory of“there is nothing in a name, weare all worshipping the sameGod”, was tried once before bythe Apostle Peter. Now let’s readwhat God had to say about, dif-ferent names, all worshippingHim. Please read carefully;“Matt.17: 1 And after six daysJesus taketh Peter, James, andJohn his brother, and bringeththem up into an high mountainapart, 2 And was transfiguredbefore them: and his face didshine as the sun, and his raimentwas white as the light. 3 And,behold, there appeared untothem Moses and Elias talkingwith him. 4 Then answeredPeter, and said unto Jesus, Lord,it is good for us to be here: ifthou wilt, let us make herethree tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one forElias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, abright cloud overshadowedthem: and behold a voice out ofthe cloud, which said, This ismy beloved Son, in whom I amwell pleased; hear ye him. 6And when the disciples heard it,they fell on their face, and weresore afraid. 7 And Jesus cameand touched them, and said,Arise, and be not afraid. 8 Andwhen they had lifted up theireyes, they saw no man, saveJesus only.” You would think, that we would have learned fromthe example that we have justread. Why are we so stubborn?Peter wanted to build threeTabernacles, a type of “Church”,if you will, after asking Jesus’permission. Note definition of“[Tabernacle- 4633 skene 1) atent, a tabernacle, (made ofgreen boughs, or skins or othermaterials) 2) used of that well-known movable temple of Godafter the pattern of which thetemple at Jerusalem was built.]”Peter seemed to have thoughtthat there was nothing in a nameand there was nothing wrongwith making tabernacles for twogreat men, Moses and Elias, ifthey made one for Christ first, all worshipping God. But, it wasobvious that God was upset, inthat while Peter yet spake, Heinterrupted him (see verse 5).Then in verse 8 God made surethat there would be no furthermistake, note verse 8 “Andwhen they had lifted up theireyes, they saw no man, saveJesus only.” When will we

learn? We hope and pray, it isbefore it’s too late!

Let us look at some names(faiths) that are given by man.We submit these are namesgiven by men because, they can-not be found in New Testamentscripture, which is the Apostles’doctrine. Can one that is called aJehovah’s Witness, therebybeing of the “Jehovah’sWitnesses” faith, at the sametime be called a Mormon? If weare honest, the answer wouldunderstandably be, absolutelynot, because Mormons are of theMormon faith, and the two havedoctrinal differences which is[division]. For one faith is saidto have been started by CharlesTaze Russell, after the “GreatApostasy” and did not adopt itsname until 1931. Please read:“Then on July 26, 1931, at theinternational assembly inColumbus, Ohio, came the pub-lic adoption of the name‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’” [WhatReligion Has Done ForMankind, Copyright, 1952,p.311]. The other faith believesthat Joe Smith was a prophetsent from God, and their doc-trine is out of the Book ofMormon. Can one that is calleda Methodist, thereby being ofthe Methodist faith, at the sametime, be called a Baptist? Again,if we are honest, the answerwould understandably be,absolutely not because Baptists, are of the Baptist faith, and theyalso have doctrinal differenceswhich is [division]. For one faithbelieve in the twenty-five arti-cles of religion in the MethodistDiscipline. The other believes inthe nineteen articles of faith inthe Baptist Manual. It is alsounderstood that one that is calleda Catholic, cannot at the sametime, be called any of the faithsmentioned, or any that have notbeen mentioned, simply because, they are of the Catholic faith. This, of course, again causesdoctrinal differences which is[division]. This faith uses a cate-chism as a summary of faith, and believes strongly in the“Pope” as their supreme leaderon earth. The proof is in thepudding, so, there is somethingin a name, as it should be. Forwith every name that is given byman, there is a different faith, doctrine, and way to be rightwith God. As much as wewould all like to have it our way, like Burger King, there is notbut one way, according to theLord and savour Jesus Christ(John14: 6).

Some say the apostle Peter wasthe first “Pope”, after searchingthe scriptures this is NOT whatthey teach. Peter said who andwhat he was, and never oncewas he called, nor did he call

himself, a “Pope”. Charles TazeRussell, Joe Smith,* JohnSmyth,* John and CharlesWesley*, the Pope, norAlexander Campbell, are foundin the inspired word of the NewTestament. They are not in theinspired word of the bible at all.So who are they? What we didfind was Christ, the head of theONE BODY, which is the ONECHURCH that he is building(Acts 2:41&47), and his apos-tles and other believing brethren. Now let us read, and allow theWord which is the Truth, tell uswho and what Peter was. Therewas a dispute among the twelve,as to who was the greatest. Peterwas one of the twelve, and herewas an opportunity for Christ tohave made it clear, as to whowas the greatest among them.Note what the Lord Jesus had tosay in Mark 9:34-35, also notethat Peter said, he was an apostleof Jesus Christ and an elder,NEVER a “Pope”.

Mark 9:34 But they held theirpeace: for by the way they haddisputed among themselves, whoshould be the greatest. 35 Andhe sat down, and called thetwelve, and saith unto them, Ifany man desire to be first, thesame shall be last of all, and ser-vant of all. (KJV)

Acts 10:25 And as Peter wascoming in, Cornelius met him,and fell down at his feet, andworshipped him. 26 But Petertook him up, saying, Stand up; Imyself also am a man.(KJV)

1 Pet 1:1 Peter, an apostle ofJesus Christ, to the strangersscattered throughout Pontus,Galatia,Cappadocia, Asia, andBithynia,(KJV)

1 Pet 5:1 The elders which areamong you I exhort, who amalso an elder, and a witness ofthe sufferings of Christ, and alsoa partaker of the glory that shallbe revealed:(KJV)

2 Pet 1:1 Simon Peter, a servantand an apostle of Jesus Christ, tothem that have obtained like pre-cious faith with us through therighteousness of God and ourSaviour Jesus Christ:(KJV)

With all due respect, titles thatare worn by men in the religiousworld today, such as; “Pope”;“Holy Father” “Reverend”;“Master”; “Rabbi” ......etc., havenot been authorized by Godthrough Jesus Christ and hisapostles. But rather, have beencondemned by scriptures astitles worn by men. They alladvocate division so one mustconclude they are not of theONE FAITH.

WHAT IS TRUTH?ONE FAITH, IS CHRIST DIVIDED?

They all must be authorized byGod [‘Elohiym; Theos] throughJesus Christ, the ONLYBEGOTTEN and Beloved Sonin whom He is well pleased(Matt.17:4-8; John 1:14-18;3:16-18; Hebrews 11:17; 1John4:9). They must also be found inthe Apostles’ doctrine; which isin New Testament scripture,thereby following the blueprintof THE Church that Christ isbuilding. Please read;

Ps 111:9 He sent redemptionunto his people: he hath com-manded his covenant for ever:holy and(1)reverend is his name. 10The fear of the LORD is thebeginning of wisdom: a goodunderstanding have all they thatdo his commandments: hispraise endureth for ever.(KJV)

Definition: (1)reverend is hisname 3372 yare’ (yaw-ray’); aprimitive root; to fear; morally,to revere; cause. to frighten:KJV— affright, be (make)afraid, dread (-ful), (put in) fear(-ful, -fully, -ing), (be had in)reverence (-end), X see, terrible(act, -ness, thing).

Matt 23:8 But be not ye calledRabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye areBRETHRE.9 And call no man your fatherupon the earth: for one is yourFather, which is in heaven. 10Neither be ye called masters: forone is your Master, even Christ.11 But he that is greatest amongyou shall be your servant. 12And whosoever shall exalt him-self shall be abased; and he thatshall humble himself shallbe exalted.(KJV)

Dear reader, again with all duerespect, we have not found anyNew Testament scripture, authorizing any of these faiths, doctrines, or names. They sim-ply cannot be found anywhere inNew Testament scripture. What’s simply taught is; “Eph.4:4 There is one body, and oneSpirit, even as ye are called inone hope of your calling; 5 OneLord, one faith, one baptism, 6One God and Father of all, whois above all, and through all, andin you all.” This is to all thathave obeyed from the heart theNew Testament form [blueprint]of doctrine, which was deliveredto us, by the Apostles(Rom.6:17). This NewTestament blueprint advocatesoneness, not division. Accordingto scriptures, there is no Churchof our choice, there is but oneand it is the Church of and byChrist (Eph.3:21).The onebody, the one Church, is Christ. He is the builder (Matt.16:17-18) and the head of it(Eph.1:22-23; 5:23; Col.1:18).

The one Spirit is Christ! The onehope is in Christ! The one Lordis Christ! The one faith is inChrist! The one baptism by sub-mersion, is of Christ, therebyputting one into Christ, as oneput on Christ (Gal.3:23-29)!Christ, Christ, Christ, Christ,Christ! No other name is “wor-thy”, “needed” or given, underheaven among men, whereby wemust be saved (Acts 4:12). Asone that believes on Godthrough Christ His Son, onemust follow the New Testamentblueprint in name; in doctrine; intraditions as given by Christ, tohis Apostles, this makes one aChristian, and a Christian only! This is the New Testamentexample. Not a Mormon;“Methodist Christian”;“Jehovah’s Witnesses”;“Baptist” Christian or a“Catholic” Christian etc., just aChristian, following the Apostleswords, nothing more, nothingless, nothing else. This wouldmake us all speak the samethings, and there would be nodivision among us (1Cor.1:10;Phil. 3:16-20), thereby makingus all One in Christ (John17:20-22; Rom.10:12).

There is but one name author-ized by the Apostles, for thosethat are members of the Churchthat Christ is building, and thatis Christians, followers of Christthrough the Apostle’s word, nothing else. This name wasprophesied of by the holyprophet Isaiah. Please read care-fully the reminder left by theApostle Peter, to those of theone faith, as he was guided byThe Holy Spirit; “2 Pet. 3: 1This second epistle, beloved, Inow write unto you; in bothwhich I stir up your pure mindsby way of remembrance: 2 Thatye may be mindful of the wordswhich were spoken before bythe holy prophets, and of thecommandment of us the apos-tles of the Lord and Saviour: 3Knowing this first, that thereshall come in the last daysscoffers, walking after their ownlusts,” [scoffers; false teachers]. If you read carefully, we hopeyou noted that, Christians arenot to be mindful, of the wordsspoken by just any prophets.According to the Apostle Peter, they must be holy prophets. Onemight ask, what made prophetsholy? First of all, one must havebeen authorized by God, bybeing found in the inspired wordof God. Then, their prophecymust have come true; Holy menof God, not by the will of manspake as they were moved byThe Holy Ghost (2 Pet.1:20-21).Now let’s read carefully; “Isa.62:1 For Zion’s sake will I nothold my peace, and forJerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof

go forth as brightness, and thesalvation thereof as a lamp thatburneth. 2 And the Gentilesshall see thy righteousness, andall kings thy glory: and thoushalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORDshall name.” Many years past, many events happened, butGod’s people had no new name, and there was no evidence of theGentiles, seeing the righteous-ness of God. So, the prophecywas holding true. There weresome important chain of eventsfor mankind’s salvation such as,the death, burial and resurrectionof the Lord and Savour JesusChrist (Matt.26:27-28; Rom.4:24-25; 1Cor.15:1-8; Gal.1:3-4; 3:12-13). The Word, whichwas and is Christ, was in thebeginning, with God. He wasthen born “...not of blood, nor ofthe will of the flesh, nor of thewill of man, but of God.”(Please read John1:1-17) TheApostle John, continued to teachin verse 14, “And the Word wasmade flesh, and dwelt among us,(and we beheld his glory, theglory as of the OLY begottenof the father,) full of grace andtruth.”

Contrary to what many aretaught and believe, Jesus’ suffer-ing did not start on the cross. Helived a life of suffering. He leftheaven, came down to this sinfilled earth, being born in a feedtrough (Luke 2:7-16), meek(Matt.21:4-7). One that had nobeauty, when they saw him(Isa.53:1-12), rejected by hisown (John1:1-11), having noplace to lay his head (Matt.8:20; Luke 9:58), refusing allearthly, materialistic thingsoffered to him by the devil(Luke 4:1-14), and then sufferedand died most cruelly on thecross for our sins. He was thenburied, and rose again the thirdday early on the first day of theweek according to the scriptures(Mark 16:9; Luke 24:1-8). Hewas seen of Cephas, and then ofthe twelve: After that, he wasseen of about five hundredbrethren at once (1Cor.15:4-8).Before ascending back intoheaven, Jesus commanded hisapostles to wait in Jerusalem forthe Comforter/Holy Ghost, which was to be sent to themfrom heaven, from his Father; toguide them in all truth (pleaseread John 14:16-26; 15:26;16:7-13). When the Pentecostwas fully come, they [the apos-tles] were in one place, with oneaccord and received the HolyGhost as a rushing mighty wind(Acts 2:1-4). All these thingshad happened, but the Gentileshad not yet seen the righteous-ness of God so, no new namehad been given to His people.Peter then preached the firstgospel sermon, in the name of

Christ. After they heard Peterpreach the gospel, believingwhat they heard, they askedwhat they must do. Peter toldevery one of them, to repent, and be baptized in the name ofJesus Christ, for the remission ofsins (Acts 2:29-39; Rom.10:9 -17). The Jews (Acts 2:36-37)gladly received (Acts 2:41)Peter’s word, and on that sameday, about three thousand wereadded unto them, and they con-tinued steadfastly in the apos-tles’ doctrine. Yet, God had notgiven his people a new name.

Then in Acts chapter10, some-thing occurred, that hadn’toccurred before according toscripture. The first Gentile,Cornelius, had seen the right-eousness of God, and was con-verted. Now according to theprophet Isaiah, God’s peoplewere now to have a new name.In Acts chapter 11, for the firsttime there was a new name, onethat had not been heard ofbefore, a name that was given byprophecy, please read; “Acts11:26 And when he had found him,he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that awhole year they assembledthemselves with the church, andtaught much people. And thedisciples were calledChristians first in Antioch.”They were now Christians, notBaptist, Methodist, CatholicChristians, etc., just Christians. If there’s any other name men-tioned before the nameChristian, this shows what’s firstin rank, (the preeminence). Thefirst thing said identifies whatBODY/FAITH one is of. Thereis but one body/faith that Christis the Head of and that is hisbody, the Church with no otherName (Eph.4:1-24; Col.1:1-18).King Agrippa made this state-ment in “Acts 26: 28 ThenAgrippa said unto Paul, Almostthou persuades me to be aChristian.” He was almost per-suaded to be just a Christian, nothing more and nothing less.Dear reader, if there were noother names in the days of KingAgrippa, given to those of theone faith, do you ever wonder, when and where the other namescame from? Since they didn’tcome from God, Christ, or HISapostles as they were guided bythe Holy Ghost, then they camefrom man. WOE be unto man,and those that follow MEN.Know this; Christian cannot bespelled, unless Christ is spelledfirst. This new name, that wasfulfilled through prophecy, givesChrist, and only Christ the pre-eminence; please read again“Col.1:18 And he is the head ofthe body, the church: who is thebeginning, the firstborn from thedead; that in all things he mighthave the (1)preeminence.19 For

it pleased the Father that in himshould all fulness dwell;”Definition: (1)preeminence-4409 proteuo (prote-yoo’-o);from 4413; to be first (in rank orinfluence), to hold the firstplace: KJV— have the preemi-nence.

The Lord again, through theApostle Paul, warns us, as Paulwarns the Church in Corinth, about names of men. Pleaseread carefully; “1 Cor. 1:12Now this I say, that every one ofyou saith, I am of Paul; and I ofApollos; and I of Cephas; and Iof Christ. 13 Is Christ divided?was Paul crucified for you? orwere ye baptized in the name ofPaul?” “1 Cor. 3: 3 For ye areyet carnal: for whereas there isamong you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For whileone saith, I am of Paul; andanother, I am of Apollos; are yenot carnal? 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but minis-ters by whom ye believed, evenas the Lord gave to every man?”Just as it was and is unscripturalfor those of The One Faith(Eph.4:3-5), to be known bynames of men, it is equallyunscriptural to be known bynames of actions, conditions orcommands. Those of The OneFaith, in the Apostles’ time, werebaptized into Christ, but theywere not called “Baptist”, butrather were called Christiansand Christians only. Those ofThe One Faith, in the Apostles’time, had the scriptural methodby which the One Body, the OneChurch of and by Christ, wasgoverned, but they were notcalled “Methodist”, but ratherwere called Christians andChristians only. The One Brideof Christ (John 3:25-36), thechurch that he is the head of,was and is to be universal, butthey were not called “Catholic”,but rather were calledChristians, and Christians only. The Church of God, which hepurchased with his own blood(Acts 20:28), was to, just astoday, follow the Apostles doc-trine, examples, and command-ments, but they were not called“Apostolic”. They were allcalled Christians, carryingChrist’s name and his nameonly, just as the bride should.

There are many in the religiousworld today, proclaiming to beChristians, that are known bymany other names. If the namewe are known by can not befound in the blueprint of NewTestament scripture, drawn upby the Apostles as they wereguided by the Holy Spirit, thenwe are not of the faith(2Cor.13:5-8).

WHAT IS TRUTH? ONE FAITH, IS CHRIST DIVIDED?

Page 18: Vol. XV No 149

March 2013 A King-Size View Page 18

We believe by scripture, it hasbeen proven there is somethingin a name, but not all is in thename. There are those that areknown by the scriptural name ofChrist (Rom.16:16-17; Eph.3:21), but they practice non-scriptural things such as: the tra-ditions of men, rather than thetraditions of the Apostles. Theyalso MIND secular things, anddays that are not of The Faith,(Philip 3:13-20; Col.2:1-12; 2Thes.2:10-15; 3:6-7; 2Cor.13:5-8). If we then, are notof the faith, the Master inspectorwill reject us in the judgment;fine us to eternal damnation, because we tried to enter intoheaven some other way (John10:1-5; 14:6). According toscripture, we All must follow theNew Testament blueprint, givenby the Apostles for the churchby and of Christ. The one faith, must do all in the name of Christ(Col.3:17), that is All thingsmust be by his Authority, whichis found in the Apostle’s words, and by their commandments, tobe right (righteous) with God(John 17:19-22; 1Cor.11:1-3; 2Pet 3:1-3; 1John4:5-6; Jude1:15-19).

What must we all do, to becomeChristians only, and be right[righteous] with God, accordingto the blueprint of NewTestament scripture? For one tobecome a member of the OneFaith authorized by Christ, onemust:

(1)Hear:

Acts 10:28-33Rom. 10:14 How then shallthey call on him in whom theyhave not believed? and howshall they believe in him ofwhom they have not heard? andhow shall they hear without apreacher? Rom.10:17 So thenfaith cometh by hearing, andhearing by the word ofGod.(KJV)

(2)Believe:Mark 16:16 He that believethand is baptized shall be saved;but he that believeth not shall bedamned.Rom. 10:10-12; James 2:19-24

(3)Repent:Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall alllikewise perish. Acts 2:38 ThenPeter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one ofyou in the name of Jesus Christfor the remission of sins, and yeshall receive the gift of the HolyGhost.(KJV)

(4)Confess:Rom 10:9 That if thou shaltconfess with thy mouth the LordJesus, and shalt believe in thine

heart that God hath raised himfrom the dead, thou shalt besaved. 10 For with the heartman believeth unto righteous-ness; and with the mouth confes-sion is made untosalvation.(KJV)

(5)Then be Baptized:Matt.28:19-20; Acts 18:8;22:15-16; Rom.6:3-4, 16-17;Col.2:10-12

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladlyreceived his word were baptized:and the same day there wereadded unto them about threethousand souls. 42 And theycontinued stedfastly in the apos-tles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and inprayers. Gal 3:27 For as manyof you as have been baptizedinto Christ have put on Christ.28 There is neither Jew norGreek, there is neither bond norfree, there is neither male norfemale: for ye are all one inChrist Jesus. 29 And if ye beChrist’s, then are ye Abraham’sseed, and heirs according to thepromise. 1 PET.3:21 The likefigure whereunto even baptismdoth also now save us (not theputting away of the filth of theflesh, but the answer of a goodconscience toward God,) by theresurrection of Jesus Christ:

When the above commands areobeyed from the heart (mind)(Rom.6:17), then the Lordadds to the Church, such asshould be saved (Acts 2:47).Then we are all Christians andChristian only, members of thechurch by and of Christ. Allspeaking the same thing, all withthe same name, all practicing, and observing the same things, with no division among us, allbeing One, just as the Lord Jesusprayed for in John the 17 chap-ter. One must then continue tofollow circumspectly, the blue-print of the Apostles doctrine inworship, if not we will be inerror according to scripture:“Matt 22:29 Jesus answeredand said unto them, Ye do err,not knowing the scriptures, northe power of God.” Note againthe apostle Paul. “1 Cor. 11:1Be ye followers of me, even as Ialso am of Christ. 2 Now Ipraise you, brethren, that yeremember me in all things, andkeep the ordinances, as I deliv-ered them to you.” “Eph 3:1For this cause I Paul, the prison-er of Jesus Christ for youGentiles, 2 If ye have heard ofthe dispensation of the grace ofGod which is given me to you-ward: 3 How that by revelationhe made known unto me themystery; (as I wrote afore in fewwords, 4 Whereby, when yeread, ye may understand myknowledge in the mystery ofChrist) 5 Which in other ages

was not made known unto thesons of men, as it is nowrevealed unto his holy apostlesand prophets by the Spirit;”Note again the apostle Peter; “2Pet 3:2 That ye may be mindfulof the words which were spokenbefore by the holy prophets, andof the commandment of us theapostles of the Lord andSaviour:”(KJV)

After putting on Christ in bap-tism, one must continue to fol-low the blueprint of worshipfound in the apostles’ doctrine, ifwe are to be of the one faith.(See also Matt.18:20;Heb.10:25)

1. LORD’S SUPPER; Acts 20:6 And we sailed away fromPhilippi after the days ofunleavened bread, and cameunto them to Troas in five days;where we abode seven days. 7And upon the first day of theweek, when the disciples cametogether to break bread, Paulpreached unto them, ready todepart on the morrow; and con-tinued his speech until midnight.[No example or command forunleavened bread is found in theinstructions for the Lord’sSupper, by the Lord or hisApostles, therefore it follows notthe blueprint of the Church thatChrist is building, and is error.](see also Matt. 26:26; Mark14:22; Luke 22:19;1Cor.10:16-17; 1Cor.11: 23-30;)

3. PRAYER; (Acts 2:42; Luke18:1; 1Thes.5:17) [No NewTestament scripture nor examplefor Rosaries or Hail Mary, there-fore, it follows not the blueprint, and is error; 1 Tim 2:5 Forthere is one God, and (1)onemediator between God andmen, the man Christ Jesus; 6Who gave himself a ransom forall, to be testified in duetime.(KJV)] Definition (1)onemediator-3316 mesites; from3319; a go-between, i.e.an inter-nunciator, or (by implication) areconciler (intercessor): KJV—mediator.

4. PREACH. (Acts 20:7;1Cor.15:1-4; Gal.1:6-12;2Tim.4:2-5; 1Pet.1:22-25…etc.)[No New Testament scripture orexample for preachers beingpaid just because they preached, but to be supported as they hadneeds, not wants, therefore itfollows not the blueprint, and is

5. GIVE; Now Concerning theCollection for the Saints, as youhave prospered, and or pur-poseth. [No example of tithingor pledging found in theApostles doctrine or command, therefore, it follows not the blue-print of the Church that Christ isbuilding, and is error.] (Acts20:32-35; 1Cor.16:1-3; 2Cor. 8:11-15; 9:7)

Not only must one worship, according to the Apostles doc-trine, one must also live accord-ing to their doctrine, adding totheir faith (2Pet.1:1-11).Contrary to what is taught in thereligious world today, this worldis a Christian’s WORK PLACE,and one must labour to enterinto the rest of eternal life(Phil.2:12-16; Heb.4:9-12;James 2:17-26). Just as the Lordand saviour Jesus Christ, andthose that followed him. A trueChristian’s Lifestyle is one oflabouring, necessities, sufferingto obey, and to NOT LOVE theWORLD, NIETHER THETHINGS that are in IT (Luke4:5-8; John12:25-26; 1John2:14-17). Let us remember, these earthly sufferings are noth-ing compared to the greatreward that is promised, whichis eternal life, if we (1) faint not(Gal.6:7-10). Definition: (1)faint not-to relax; weaken; orgrow weary. The reward of eter-nal damnation, is equally asgreat, and is promised to thoseof us, who chose to be disobedi-ent, and rebellious; doing thingsour way, and not by the blue-print of New Testament scrip-ture. The blueprint drawn up byChrist, given to the Apostlesthrough the Holy Ghost for us tofollow circumspectly: “Matt 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thouwilt be perfect, go and sell thatthou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure inheaven: and come and followme. 22 But when the young manheard that saying, he went awaysorrowful: for he had great pos-sessions. 23 Then said Jesusunto his disciples, Verily I sayunto you, That a rich man shallhardly enter into the kingdom ofheaven. 24 And again I say untoyou, It is easier for a camel to gothrough the eye of a needle, thanfor a rich man to enter into thekingdom of God.”

Luke 6:24 But woe unto youthat are rich! for ye havereceived your consolation.(KJV)

John 12:25 He that (1)lovethhis life shall lose it; and he that(2)hateth his life in this worldshall keep it unto life eternal. 26If any man serve me, (3)let himfollow me; and where I am,there shall also my servant be: if

any man serve me, him will myFather honour.(KJV)

Definitions: (1)loveth his life-5368 phileo (fil-eh’-o); from5384; to be a friend to (fond of[an individual or an object]), i.e.have affection for (denoting per-sonal attachment, as a matter ofsentiment or feeling; specifical-ly, to kiss (as a mark of tender-ness), 1) to love a) to approve ofb) to like c) to sanction d) totreat affectionately or kindly, towelcome, to befriend 2) to showsigns of love; to kiss 3) to befond of doing; to be accustomedto, used to doing (something):KJV— kiss, love. Rom 12:16 Be of the samemind one toward another. Mindnot high things, but condescendto men of low estate. Be notwise in your own conceits. 17Recompense to no man evil forevil. Provide things honest in thesight of all men.(KJV)

Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rathergive place unto wrath: for it iswritten, Vengeance is mine; Iwill repay, saith the Lord. 20Therefore if thine enemyhunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doingthou shalt heap coals of fire onhis head. 21 Be not overcomeof evil, but overcome evil withgood.(KJV)

Dear reader, our plea is this; letus drop all these names, doc-trines/faiths, traditions given byman, that are not found in theapostles doctrine. Let us all beone in name, doctrine and tradi-tions, which can be found in theapostles’ doctrine, thereby mak-ing us all speak the same things, having no division among us.This was Christ’s Prayer in Johnthe 17th chapter. Let us all be ofthe one Church of, and byChrist. The one He said hewould build (Matt.16:12-18),purchased (Acts20:28;1Cor.6:19-20 and 7:23), the onefaith, the one spirit, the onename, which is Christ. Christ theone body, HIS BODY; the onethat he is the HEAD of. The onefor which HE lived a life ofSUFFERING and DIED FOR;and is yet building (Acts2:47).Again: CHRIST, CHRIST,CHRIST, CHRIST, CHRIST. Letus do this before it is everlastingtoo late. Let us listen to theapostle Paul (Eph.3: 1-5), as wehave been commanded to do. Aswe read, he tells us as he toldthose in Corinth, to examineourselves whether we are inTHE faith, not in A faith. “2Cor 13:5 (1)Examine your-selves, whether ye be in thefaith; (2)prove your own selves.Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be (3)reprobates?”

Definitions: (1)Examine your-selves-3985 peirazo (pi-rad’-zo); from 3984; to test (objec-tively), i.e. endeavor, scrutinize,discipline: KJV— assay, exam-

ine, go about, prove, tempt (-er),try. (2)prove your own selves-1381 dokimazo (dok-im-ad’-zo); from 1384; to test (literallyor figuratively); by implication,to approve: KJV— allow, dis-cern, examine, X like, (ap-)prove, try. (3)reprobates-96adokimos (ad-ok’-ee-mos); from1 (as a negative particle) and1384; unapproved, i.e.rejected;by implication, worthless (liter-ally or morally): KJV— cast-away, rejected, reprobate.

Let this not be our end, pleaseread:Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at thestrait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that lead-eth to destruction, and manythere be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, andnarrow is the way, which lead-eth unto life, and few there bethat find it. 15 Beware of falseprophets, which come to you insheep’s clothing, but inwardlythey are ravening wolves.(KJV)

Matt 7:21 ot every one thatsaith unto me, Lord, Lord, shallenter into the kingdom of heav-en; but he that doeth the will ofmy Father which is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in thatday, Lord, Lord, have we notprophesied in thy name? and inthy name have cast out devils?and in thy name done manywonderful works? 23 And thenwill I profess unto them, I neverknew you: depart from me, yethat work iniquity. 24 Thereforewhosoever heareth these sayingsof mine, and doeth them, I willliken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon arock: (KJV)

Again the purpose of these arti-cles is to share with you somescriptural truths; thereby expos-ing error, which is false doctrine. We believe through definitions, and the preponderance ofscripture which is (Havingsuperior weight, force, impor-tance, or influence of scripture),allows SCRIPTURE to INTER-PRET SCRIPTURE, therebyallowing a better understandingon that topic.

Christian, the most misap-plied, misused and abusedname, on the face of the earth!

PRECIOUS is Time. Therefore while you have

time, use it to learn and do Gods Commandments

for at the end of life is pay time and your pay will

be according as your work has been. You will find

in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the following: “For we must

all appear before the judgement seat of Christ,

that everyone may recive the things done in his

body according to that he hath done, whether it

be good or evil.” You will find in John 15:14. “Ye

are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command

you.” Solomon said in Proverbs 1:5 “A wise man

will hear and will increase learning, and a man of

understanding will attain unto wise counsel.”

How shall we escape if we neglect to great

Austin, Texas-The Lady

[antherettes of Duncanville just

completed a great 42-0 season as

they turned back Cibolo Steele

59-36. Led by the sensational

Kiara Perry who had 20 points

to lead all scorers the Lady

Pantherettes wasted no time in

jumping out to 33-14 half time

lead. Perry went on to win the

Cass 5A Most Valuble Playe on

her efforts that included 1three

rebounds to lead the game in

that category as well. All over

the floor on both ends, Perry

made it clear Steele was not

going to get but one shot as she

grabbed 12 defensive rebounds

in the win. Having beaten Clear

Springs 64-40 in the semi-final

Duncanville was clearly the bet-

ter team as Steele could do very

little with the exception for

Calvert McKenzie who had 19

points and 11 rebounds in the

loss.

Another outstanding job by

Coach Cathy Self-Morgan and

her staff and they clearly are a

cut above all other in Class 5A

girls’ basketball. Fact is they

just might be back again next

season.

In Class 4A it was Georgetown

over Dallas Lincoln 65-60 while

the Class 3A title went to Mexia

a 69-62 winner over Kennedale.

In Class 2A the title went to

Brock who beat Merkel 40-32

while the Class A crown went to

Martin Mill winners of a thriller

over Smyer 49-46. The Class A

Division II title went to

Whitharral who eat Saltillo 45-

36. Fort Bend Christian had their

best season ever as they made

all the way the TAPPS state

tournament before losing to

Lubbock Trinity Christian 75-34.

Fort Bend Travis kept their

dreams alive when they turned

back a hard fighting Fort Bend

Bush 61-53. The win gave

Travis their second Region III

boys Class 5A title. Andrew

Harrison led the way with 32

points including 17 in the fourth

period. The Tigers won for the

31st time against five losses

with the win and went off to

state again. By the time the

fourth period begun Travis was

up 36-26 forcing an uphill climb

for Bush. The Broncos came out

of their zone and this allowed

Andrew Harrison a chance to go

to the basket and got to the foul

line. Bush who many feel will

be back again this year could

never catch up despite closing

the gap to three points on sever-

al occasions. Bush had won the

three previous meeting of the

two teams but Travis won when

it counted the most. Junior Kelly

Oubre slammed down 18 points

while Brandon Jones ripped the

nets for 16 points and Shawn

Dre Jones sank four treys on his

way to 15 points, but it wasn’t

enough. With Kelly and

Brandon coming back you know

Bush will be back again.

I’m sure over the last several

months you’ve taken the tips

I’ve given you incorporated

them into your daily life. Well,

it‘s time to work on your one-

two punch: goals and

confidence! You can start with a daily plan,

set small obtainable goals that

you can accomplish during your

day then work up to a three-

month plan, one-year, five-year,

etc… when you break your plan

down into small obtainable

intervals you’re not setting your-

self up for failure and when you

see your goals are being accom-

plished it will increase your con-

fidence not only in your plan but

also in yourself.

Confidence is not about being

arrogant or a perfectionist or

about how other people perceive

you however; it is about accept-

ing yourself for who you are and

where you are currently in life.

We tend to worry about what

people are saying about us or

why we don’t have that nice car,

house or family that our friends

have. Always be appreciative

for what you have now then set

your sights on achieving your

goals (the keyword being YOUR

goals) you will begin to build

your confidence.

People often think that confi-

dence is a sexy dress and high

heels or a nice suit and a brief-

case and that’s not true, you can

walk into a room as though the

wind is blowing through your

hair, dressed in a tee shirt,

sweats with a fabulous smile and

draw people to you! When you

are genuine and have a positive

attitude it’s almost as sexy as

having on a mini skirt and

pumps…notice I said almost!

Finally, always make everymeeting count you never know

who you’ll encounter, a simple

conversation in the grocery store

line could possibly help you

achieve one of the goals you’ve

set for yourself. Goals and

Confidence are a winning com-

bination!

Remember greet each day with

the assurance that today is your

day.

Austin, Texas-Attending the

Texas Vasketball Championships

for most of my adult life, has

been a time where I reflect on

some of the biggest issues facing

high school sports. I look at the

nation besides Texas and trust

me there are a quite a few issues

that if improvements are made,

could make high school sports

so much better. But as I watched

the Texas finals in basketball the

same issue I talked about years

ago still is the biggest issue. In

fact it’s beginning to hurt the

game on the high school level.

I’m going to make even more

enemies but who cares, I’m

going to day it even louder than

bedore.

A SHOT CLOCK MUST BE

IMPOSED.

I don’t care what administrators,

coaches, fans and/or players say.

The game has become boring

and general interest in high

school basketball has dropped.

Some scoring totals could make

you think you’re watching a

game in the 1940’s. Coaches

spread the floor and play a ‘four

corners’ type offense that waste

nearly two minutes before any

type of offensive movement

towards the goal is attempted.

It’s just hard to watch. I can’t

stand it anymore and I will

scream shot clock every chance

I get. So Mr. Basketball Know-

It-All I will grant you one more

chance. Please tell me why a

shot clock is not needed for high

school basketball, I am willing

to accept a sixty second clock. A

shot clock didn’t radically

change college basketball a great

deal and trust me it won’t

change high school basketball

that much either. You say it will

hurt coaches trying to teach bas-

ketball to their young athletes. I

thought that’s what they were

doing. Holding a basketball for

over two minutes and not imple-

menting any offensive plays is

teaching basketball? Running up

and down the floor us not the

game of basketball. I’ll quote

one of best coaches of all time,

John Wooden who said years

ago ‘speed kills’. Older fans in

Texas remember those Houston

Wheatley teams after full inyer-

gration in Texas in 1967. The

excitement they generated in thr

warmips was unlike anything

most people had seen in the gen-

eral population. Those Wheatley

teams never and I repeat never

needed a shot clock. Former

Wilcats coach Jackie Carr told

me if his team scored over 100

points (remember no shot clock)

he felt confident they would win

the game. No need to wonder

Mr. Know-It-All they mostly did

win. Does anyone find any

thrills watching a team score 26

points by halftime of a game and

are the leading scoring team?

I’m still waiting on one excuse

that says no to a shot clock. All

we get is the same tired reasons

for not having the clock. But I

believe the real reason for

knocking a shot clock is simply

some coaches just don’t know

what a real basketball game is

all about. Translation: if I score

one more point than my opponet

does, I win the game. You score

points and defend the opponrnt

from scoring is very simple to

understand and the job of a

xoach is to teach that skill to his

players. I may never hear that

one excuse, but I’ll still waiting

to hear just one.

That’s just the way I see it!

The 62nd running of the Texas

Southern University Relays

lived up its billing just as it has

for more than six decades.

People filled into the Alexander

Durley Sports Complex and

watched as the record fell. With

some strong wins swirling on

the track some of the marks had

to be wind aided. So was the

100 meters for high school boys

as Cameron Burrell of Fort Bend

Ridge Point bolted to a 10.25 in

the event with a wind aid of 2.8

but it was still good enough for

him to add to his already

nation’s best time.

The Lady Panthers of Prairie

View did their thing as Terracia

Moody did her thing in the open

quarter. The women of PV also

took several relay events with

Sylvonna Thompson, Kelsi

Alexander, Ugonna Okpala and

Terracia Moody teaming up.

On the high school girls it was

Fort Bend Bush Lady Broncos

taking the mile relay with

Jennifer Arinze, Jarra and Jalana

Owens and Rushell Harvey tak-

ing the event. But right behind

them was Dallas Lancaster with

Alexus Flores, Alecia Harris,

Adrianna Berkhalter and Taylor

Rockwell doing the honors.

In the hurdles it was Beaumont

Ozen’s Tony Brown in a photo

finish as the Golden Triangle

continues to roll in the hurdles.

If you recall Jamaal Charles of

Port Arthur Memorial dominated

the hurdles before going off to

University of Texas to play

football and is now playing for

the Kansas City Chiefs in the

National Football League.

One of the best 800 meters girls’

runners in the country was also

at the TSU Relays. She’s

Raevyn Rogers of Kinkaid High

School. Please see our Fiesta

Student of the Week for more on

this outstanding student athlete.
