showmanship and fitting clinic at the St. Francois County
Fair-grounds.

Like the dinosaurs the low
admission rates at the Bollinger
County Museum of Natural
History in Marble Hill, are on their
way to extinction. The rate
increases on June 1, 2014.

year!!!
Shooting Skills Opportunities
4-H Invitational Shoots in
Missouri
Several counties offer special
Invitational shooting matches
open to other Missouri 4-H
Shooting Sports members.
Some of these offer nearly
every event as the State Shoot;
some only offer 1 or 2 events.
These invitational matches are
great opportunities to
experience additional
competition and their skills
against members from other
counties. A certified coach is
not required to participate. If
the 4-H member is enrolled in
the discipline and has been
faithfully attending local
instruction and practice they
can participate – as long as
parents take them and
supervise. A list of these

State Shoot
Information –
IMPORTANT Registration details for the
August and September State
Shoots are still a few days
away; but there are some
significant changes coming that
every Shooting Sports member,
parent, and leader need to be
aware of. THE BIG
CHANGE: the August 23 Trap
Shoot and the August 23-24
Archery –NFAA 300 will have
online registration this year.
Registration and scheduling
will be done via the internet.
Please read closely information
as it becomes available. For
now, make plans on how you
will accomplish online
registration. If you have
internet in your home, no
problem; but if you do not have
internet then you have some
planning to do. Public access
computers and internet are
available, maybe friends or
neighbors will let you use their
computer; or the extension
office may be able to assist.
The September 20 – 21 events
will use paper registration, as in
the past. When details are
available all shooting sports
enrollees will be notified via
email. So, please make sure
your correct email is in the 4-H
system. Details will be sent to
local extension offices and will
be posted on the website:

attention and spread the word.

St. Louis This event connects young
filmmaking enthusiasts with
film industry professionals &
youth who share those interests. This includes film screenings, field
trips, festivities, meetings,
workshops with film industry
professionals & other

If you are an interested 4-H
member, recruit other 4-Hers &

wildlife, start recruiting 4-H

Wildlife Habitat
Education Program Plans are underway to re-
introduce the 4-H Wildlife
Habitat Education Program
(WHEP). 4-H members &
volunteers with an interest in the
great outdoors; its wildlife,
habitat & management of that
wildlife & habit are encouraged
to participate. WHEP is a
contest-based educational
activity that helps youth
understand basic concepts of
wildlife management science.
Any 4-H member in any 4-H
project may participate.
Additional instructional aides are
being created, but the main study
resource is the National WHEP
Manual -

Missouri U of Science &
Technology in Rolla hosts
their annual camp for youth
between the ages of 10-13.

Fish. Sportfishing Leaders should
read & fill out the application

portfishing/). They submit an
application & payment to the state
office to receive leader resources,
including all youth projects, a 2”
binder of resources, background
info & more activities! To
complete certification the leader
must complete the quiz based on
these materials and our risk
management policies!

FINDING YOUR VOICE is a
major step in becoming a
leader! Many people find it
challenging and everyone can
get better at this. Experience
the 2014 State 4-H Public
Speaking Contest and take your
skills to the next level, with
many choices to pick from.
You may compete with a
traditional prepared speech,
experience an adrenaline rush
with an extemporaneous
speech, use your technology
skills to create a tech-assisted
speech, or use your
performance skills for an
interpretation (humorous or
dramatic). Cost is $25 per
competitor, families and other
supporters get in free! To

Forms and fees are due by
September 10th
to the Bollinger
County Extension office.
Age Divisions – Youth may
compete in the Junior (ages 8-

compete in one category, due to
limits of space and the number
of available judges.
Each county may send up to:

Missouri Ag Photo Contest
5th Annual Focus on Missouri Agriculture
contest Wanted: Missourians to share
the unique stories and images of
agriculture through
photographs. The contest runs
through June 30 & is an
opportunity for amateur
photographers to submit their
best images of agriculture –
from a beautiful Missouri farm,
to a farm tractor that has been
in the family for years or the
fun and excitement of a child at
an agritourism operation, or any
number of other agri related
subjects and opportunities.

PROJECTS: If you have decided to add something to the list of projects you have already selected for the year be sure to let the Extension Office know so that the new data can be entered into the system before we gear up for fair season. Also, when filling out your fair tags this year be sure to pay close attention to what the fair book requires you to include with your entry. Attention to detail is important!

4H Book Donation 29 pound & 6 ounce box of
books sent to Oregon
County’s Myrtle Library in
May – thanks to all who
donated for the cause!
Getting another box ready to
go in June. Accepting used
books in good condition,
current magazines and/or
new books of any kind.
Remember – we are
still collecting dairy
tubs and chip/snack
bags. Will be shipping
our first box soon!
STATE FAIR In the 4-H building at the State
Fair there will be a projector
showing videos and pictures
from clubs around the state
during the fair. If you or your
club has any to share please
provide them to the Extension
Office by June 20th
so that we
can get them forwarded to the
State Office in time.
SEMO FAIR
CHANGES Livestock entries are
due August 5th
.
Exhibit entries will
be accepted on
Friday, Sept. 5 from
5-7 pm and
Saturday, Sept. 6
from 8 am – Noon.
The parade will be
held on Saturday,
Sept. 6 at 9:30 am
There will NOT be a
breeding swine show
– the market swine
show will include
barrows and gilts.
Please read the fair book
carefully again this year
for additional changes.

livestock must be current on
their MSQA training, which
