MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE WITH

ST. MARTIN’S SINGERS!

St. Martin’s Singers is a relaxed and fun group of All Saints volunteers who come together about once a month to make music with residents of St. Mar-tin’s in the Pines who have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. You do not have to be a musician to join us! We wel-come children of all ages as well, and the residents particularly love when young people visit. We will meet at St. Martin’s at 2:30 p.m. the following Sunday afternoons this winter and spring: January 28, February 18, March 11, April 22, and May 20. If you’d like more infor-mation, or directions to St. Martin’s in the Pines Evergreen Unit, contact Susie Youngson, [email protected].

ALL SAINTS BOOK CLUB

The All Saints’ Book Group will meet at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 28th at the home of Ginny May. While enjoying a potluck lunch, we will discuss, The Pro-fessor and the Mad Man, by Si-mon Winchester, a tale of murder, insani-ty and the making of the Oxford Diction-

ary. All are welcome to join us.

FAMILY PROMISE THANK YOU

There are no adequate words to describe the warm feeling that is generated watching each volunteer do his/her part in preparing for and carrying out a week of ministering to our guest family a week ago. All went so very well and they all benefitted from your care in so many ways. From filling our pantry bags (22), to delivering the cots to All Saints (2), to setting up the bedrooms and common areas (2 families and 6 individuals), to Evening Hosting (7), providing/serving/cleaning evening meals (11 individuals and groups), stay-ing overnight (13), to final teardown (1 family and 5 individuals), and finally to laundry pick up/cleaning/re-stocking linen shelves (16). In addition there were the special angels who provided gloves for all the children (Erin Donohoo) and jackets for the children (Jennifer Schmidt, Pam Moore and the Wooten Family), toys and extra cloth-ing, and Dr. Bryson Waldo’s willing-ness to examine and care for the 17 month old. How blessed we are at All Saints for everyone. We welcomed new volunteers during this rotation who after their first night wrote back to say, “what an awesome ministry to be involved in”. Thank you all for your open, gener-ous hearts. It comes right back to you, doesn’t it! Our next rotation is in early April. Stay tuned!

The Parishioner to move toward a digital version Like many other churches, we have decided to move away from a print version of our bimonthly newsletter, and instead offer The Parishioner as a digital news-letter only. You may request to continue receiving the print version for now through our “opt in” option detailed below. There are several reasons we are making this change. The first is our ability to offer more content in a timely manner. We have had many parishioners tell us they receive the newsletter a week to ten days after it is mailed, at which point most events have already taken place. The second is a matter of econom-ics; minimizing the cost to print and mail The Parishioner will allow us to use those funds in other ministries.

How and when is this change going to take place? Starting February 1, 2018 you will receive a digital version delivered to the email address we have on file. If you already receive it in the weekly announce-ment email you do not need to do anything. We will only mail The Parishioner to people who opt in to receive the print version. You can also access the newsletter anytime you wish through our website, www.allsaintsbhm.org.

How do I opt-in to keep receiving a printed version?

To opt in you will need to let the church know you still want to receive the newsletter in the mail. Fill out the form below and return it to: All Saints Epis-copal Church, attn: Debbie Donaldson, 110 West Hawthorne Rd., Birmingham, AL 35209, or put it in the offering plate. You can also send an email to [email protected]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I would like to continue receiving the print version of The Parishioner: Name: _________________________________________________________

Email: _________________________________________________________

If you have any questions about this transition please contact Debbie Donaldson, [email protected], (205)769-3182.

Can you sew or do you have a serger machine? Children's Formation is in need of costume repair and new tunics to be sewn. Please contact Jeannie Feldman, [email protected] if you can help sew simple tunics or serge the edges of older costumes.

Our youth need your help! 2018 is off to a tremendous start – for the first Sunday night EYC – we had almost

60 youth in attendance! If you were not aware, we now transition sixth graders into EYC in January of their sixth grade year. This is a great way to gently move sixth graders into the middle school program while they are still in their last year of Atri-um. Almost 60 youth is a GREAT response - It also means we desperately need more hands to help. Would you consider lending a hand? You don’t have to have a child in the EYC program to help – if you have younger kids – this could be a great preview for what your children will be doing in a year or two. Our biggest needs are: 1) Two volunteers each Sunday that we have Junior High EYC, 5:00-6:30 p.m. (Either gender, but having one of each would be ideal) These volunteers will help supervise our youth, greet them/see them to cars, etc.; Kristin & Doss will plan and lead the program. 2) Volunteers – individuals/partners/groups – to provide dinner for EYC (or breakfast, but those slots seem to go faster…) Partner with a friend to split the cost and work – makes it more fun too! With the starting attendance of 56, we should plan dinner for about 40. We may need to make that number smaller as the semester moves forward. We can offer ideas for inexpensive meals if people would like them. To sign up to help with a meal or help with Jr. High EYC please contact Julie Ellis at [email protected] or 302-9782. Thank you in advance and I look forward to working with you and your youth.
