  • Welcome Back

Term 2 has begun smoothly with children quickly

settling back into teaching and learning

programs. We welcome all new families to

Yakamia Primary School and trust you will find

the school to be a safe, happy and challenging

    learning environment.

Term 2 is shaping up to be an exciting term of

teaching and learning balanced by a number of

    fun school activities.

We look forward to another great term of working

with students, parents and community members.

    Before School Reading Program

The Before School Reading Program will start

again this term on Tuesday 28 April. Children

attending the program will be able to read to an

adult and will be provided with a healthy

breakfast with a choice of cereal, baked beans,

spaghetti, toast, fruit juice and hot Milo.

If you would like to volunteer to help out with this

program please contact Mrs Lidia James through

    the school office.

    Assembly

The next assembly will be at 9am on Friday, 1

May 2015. Mrs Stamps Year 4s will be the hosts

for this assembly. We look forward to seeing you

    there.

    NAPLAN TESTING

The National Assessment Program Literacy and

Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment

for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It has been an

annual event for schools since 2008. On Tuesday

    12, Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 May,

students will undertake the 2015 NAPLAN tests.

    More information is available at

    www.naplan.edu.au.

    Attendance

Regular school attendance is important because it

gives children the building blocks for future

success. Students who regularly miss days of

school are at risk of experiencing learning

    difficulties.

Children can be exempt from school if they are

unwell, have an infectious disease or can give the

school a genuine and acceptable reason. You

must let the school know within three days

why your child is not attending.

Be on time, Be at school,

    Thats the rule!

    Healthy Lunchboxes

    Red Lunches

These will STOP you from being healthy and learn-

ing properly. Your lunch should never look like this!

Avoid: Chips, chocolate, sticky fruit snacks, sticky

muesli & breakfast bars, sweet biscuits, small pack-

ets of savoury biscuits, lollies, cordial, soft drinks.

These are high in sugar and fat and can cause tooth

    decay.

Green Lunches These lunches are great to help you GO!

You can have these foods everyday.

    Amber Lunches

These are OK for a treat now and again, but you

shouldnt have them more than once a week.
