Tight and or see through clothing is highly inappropriate dress for the school. We as parents/guardians must remember that we are the people our children are looking up to for guidance. They are watching how we dress, how we react, and how we interact too. So as adults we must always be the bigger person and show the children that we are who they should follow. Many children and teens are raised by the television and the music videos that they see and associate that with the way they should be living because it “looks good” to the eye but it is not. So if we as the, “in the flesh”, role models for our little ones dress as if we are in the music videos when we come in the school we not only are being a disruption but we are teaching them that it is okay to wear the things they see in videos. They look to us for advice as professionals as parents, and friends. In a county where Student’s come First, we really need to make sure to keep them first in every aspect. Whether it is making sure that we watch our words, actions or clothing. We should live each day as if our kids need our positive attitude to ensure they have a positive future. Healthy Kids, Smart Kids

Stonewall Tell Elementary has adopted the Healthy Kids, Smart Kids wellness initiative. We believe that healthier eating habits and consistent exercise have a positive impact on our children’s learning and ultimately their test scores. When sending classroom snacks, please remember that this is a “Sugar-Free Zone” school. Do not send soft drinks, fruit drinks with processed sugar, candy, cookies, ice cream, cupcakes, cakes, hot fries or sugary snacks. Also note that birthday parties that include cakes, cookies, wings, ice cream and other treats are prohibited and will not be allowed in the building. Healthier items such as fruit cups, fresh fruit, pretzels, baked chips, 100% juice, fresh vegetables, 100% fruit snacks, granola bars, animal crackers and items with low salt and minimum sugar are allowed.

** Due to nut allergies, please do not send any snacks with peanuts or peanut butter in them.

Parents please note that if your child has a fever of at least 100

degrees (F) they must be “fever-

free” for 24 hours before returning to school. This policy will be strictly

enforced so that we might combat/prevent the spread of any flu-like virus in the school.

· Are you sleeping and eating too much or too little?

· Do you take your frustrations out on your kids?

· Do you feel out of control?

· Do you feel as if your children misbehave on purpose?

· Do you strike out physically or verbally when angry?

· Do you have chronically upset stomach or muscle aches, especially in your back and neck?

· Are you frustrated because your children don’t listen?

· Do you feel as if you pick on one particular child?

· Do you feel as if you can’t talk to your kids?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you may need to reach out for help. Call your school counselor for resources and information.

The speech must be an original piece

The speech must be written on theme

All interested participants must be sponsored by a teacher and submit an entry form by December

7, 2012

The speech should be 90 seconds or less and submitted by December 14, 2012

The speech must be memorized for students 3-5 by January 7, 2013

The speeches will be judged on originality (15%), appearance (10%), content (50%), and delivery

(25%)

***PRIZES*** Overall Winner for Grades 3-5 will receive a Tablet and serve as a keynote speaker

Overall Winner for Grades K-2 will receive a $50.00 Gift Card

Trophies will be given to all first, second and third place winners per grade level

Strategic Plan 2017 This is the school system’s roadmap for how

Fulton County Schools aims to improve student

achievement over the next five years. Three

goals serve as the district’s measure for long-

term student success, which is that students will

graduate on time and be ready for college or the

workforce.

• Graduation Rate – 90% of Fulton

students will graduate on time

• College Readiness – 85% of Fulton’s

seniors will be eligible for admission to a

University System of Georgia college or university

• Career Readiness – 100% of Fulton's

graduates will be work-ready certified

“These are big goals, but they are attainable,”

said Superintendent Avossa. “Our strategic plan

is focused on improving outcomes for all

students, and the only way to do this is to set

measurable goals and put supports in place to

help our students and staff to reach them.” To that end, as part of its “Building Our Future”

strategic planning initiative, the school system

will focus on five key areas – instruction,

people, technology, effective schools and

resources – to drive improvement.

• Instruction – Students will be engaged

in learning that enables them to reach their full

potential for college and career readiness

• People – Fulton County Schools will

attract and retain the most talented and effective

employees in K-12 education

• Technology – Students, parents,

teachers and administrators will have the tools

and information they need to accelerate learning

• Effective Schools – School leadership

will be collaborative and will balance innovation

with accountability • Resources – Student needs will be supported

with efficient and effective allocation of staff,

instructional materials and equipment. The strategic plan will guide the system’s

direction over the next five years and is the result

of many conversations with the school board,

teachers and school leaders as well as

Talented And Gifted- January Critical Thinking

NOTIFICATION TO PARENTS OF THE SCREENING AND REFERRAL PROCESS FOR GIFTED SERVICES The Fulton County School System screens students for eligibility for gifted services twice a year. I. Automatic Screening- At the beginning of the school year, TAG teachers review previous year’s test scores. • Standardized Tests (New Students) Students must have a minimum of an 85th percentile and a 90th percentile in two of the three areas: Total Reading, Total Math, and Complete Battery. • Acceleration Assessments (Grades K-3) Students must score 80% or greater on system’s Acceleration Assessment for English/Language Arts or Mathematics. • Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (Grades 4-9) Students must score in the top 20 percent on the reading or mathematics section when compared to all other students in the system. • Grades (Grades 10-12) Students must have an overall cumulative average of 95 or greater. II. Classroom Screening- Local schools select a two-week period from January 7 -February 28, 2013, to review all students in the school (Grades K-11). Stonewall Tell Elementary School will conduct the Classroom Screening period from January 7th-January 18th, 2013!!! • Classroom teachers and Special Area teachers use the Characteristics Instrument for Screening Students (CISS) to identify students with superior abilities in five or more of the following areas: motivation, interests, communications skills, problem-solving abilities, memory, inquiry, insight, reasoning, creativity, and humor. Students who meet either the automatic screening OR classroom screening criteria AND who have supporting data gathered from test history, products, and/or advanced content levels are referred for gifted placement testing. Once referred to testing: Parents receive the Parent Notification for

Testing Consent Form. Student is tested for the gifted program. Parents receive test results by late April 2013

or early May 2013. If state eligibility is determined, students are

placed in the TAG program with parental consent. 3rd & 4th graders are investigating Nanotechnology as it relates to sick cells

in the human body. Nanozymes and Nanotubes are current research topics for potentially targeting the bad cells at the molecular level. They will be depicting these subjects via Printmaking. 5

th graders are creating X-RAY Art in the traditional style of

Australian Aborigines while studying Biology/ bone categories of the human hand! K, 1

st and 2

nd graders are working on 3 dimensional sculptures utilizing the Geometric

Forms of Spheres, Cylinders, Toruses, Ellipsoids, and Rectangular Prisms. Also, check out 3-D Robotic Sculptures on display in Art Room!

Physical Education

Week of January 14 – January 18

Hockey

* We will continue with our “striking” unit. Students are

learning the basics of field hockey and floor hockey. This

week students will participate in skill related station

activities and a hockey game.

* The P.E. Department welcomes our student teacher from

Georgia State University - Ms. Lloyd. She will be with us

until March!

** We will begin our state mandated fitness testing this

week for students in grades 1-5. We are starting with

obtaining the students' height and weight. All information

will be obtained confidentially. Click the following link for

Music Notes

This week in music, students will be working on the following: 5th Grade – Recorder unit (Sight-reading). 4th Grade – Review instruments and instrument families. 3rd Grade – Review instruments and instrument families. 2nd Grade – Review instruments and instrument families. 1st/K – Introduction to playing barred percussion instruments (xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels).

Our Dismissal Process

The school schedule is

07:40am-2:20p.m.

Dismissal starts at 2:20p.m.

We have 11 buses to load with

4 buses being loaded at one time.

Car riders are dismissed around

2:45p.m.

ALWAYS sign in your presence in the

building at the front desk.

There is not a telephone in any

classroom.

Please provide your child with an

extra set of clothes in case of an

accident.

A QUICK ETIQUETTE REMINDER

As parents you begin the training process of respecting others in the home; so as Educators of your children we are

to continue the task in the schools. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our

children. We would appreciate if you respect our processes as students enter in the morning.

During Morning Announcements ALL students, parents and teachers are asked not to talk, walk or conduct ANY

business as a part of our trainings for our students. They are expected to participate in the moment of silence as well

as the pledge to the flag. Thank you for you cooperation!

Healthy Kids, Smart Kids

Stonewall Tell Elementary has adopted the Healthy Kids, Smart Kids Wellness

Initiative. We believe that healthier eating habits and consistent exercise have a

positive impact on our children’s learning and ultimately their test scores. When

sending in classroom snacks, please remember that this is a “Sugar-Free Zone”

school. Do not send soft drinks, fruit drinks with processed sugar, candy,

cookies, ice cream, cupcakes, cakes, hot fries or sugary snacks. Also note that

birthday parties that include cakes, cookies, wings, ice cream and other treats

are prohibited and will not be allowed in the building. Healthier items such as

fruit cups, fresh fruit, pretzels, baked chips, 100% juice, fresh vegetables, 100%

fruit snacks, granola bars, animal crackers and items with low salt and minimum sugar are allowed. ** Due to nut allergies, please do not send any snacks with peanuts or peanut butter in

them.

Oh Boy!! It’s that time again! It’s Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A at Camp Creek for Stonewall Tell. Show your school spirit by joining us for food, fun and family. There will be games

and the opportunity to compete for prizes! The children’s play area will be open so expect to have plenty of fun! The class with the highest attendance (eight students or more) will

win a class party hosted by the Chick-fil-A Cow!
