1965 EUROPEAN TOURBy Howard Kress c/379 1929 Brook Drive, Camden, S. C.

This letter is just about two months late, but not too late to thank you forsending me a copy of the July Journal and a membership envelope.

You may remember that I had told you I was going to take a European tourthis summer. We went through with it and had a wonderful time _ it wasslightly different than the last tour. We arrived home on August 13, the first dayof the reunion, to find your correspondence here. I've been meaning to writeever since but in the mad rush to catch up just didn't take the time until now.

On our trip we set aside four days for a motor trip to some of the old spots• and this was soon designated as the "old soldier's tour". It just doesn't seem

tha.t it was 21 years ago bu,t to my two youngsters (16 and 13)' it must haveseemed as if I had been in World War I. I believe they were really surprised tofind out the old man ever did anything worthwhile and I can say that they and

the wife were very patient as I dusted off some memories. Railroad Station at Saarlouis, GermanyOur tour began in Holland, where we were staying with friends. On thefirst day we searched out the li.ttle town of Eben Emael, Belgium, just south _ _ _ _ -_-__of Maastricht. The only difference in the town seemed to be that the road was

paved and I had little difficulty finding the house where we were quartered in MAIL CALLFebruary, 1944. The lady who had lived there had moved to Brussells, we foundfrom talking to the lady nex.t door. That is, my 16 year old son who has had (Continuedfl'om Page 4)three years of French talked to her. Our visit stirred up the neighborhood and COL. LELAND B. KUItRE_ USA..was a real thrill. We spent the rest of the day driving down through Bastogne Ret. (320th Engineer Battalion), P.O.and Arlon (as I remember we went North on tha.t road in 1944) to Luxembourg. Box 5279, San Antonio, 1, Texas. At

The ne:_t day was the big one.
