Class Title: Kindergarten Lesson Title: The Five Senses Grade Level: Nursery Author: Rita Azzi

Description: In this lesson, students will have a quick revision of the four senses: sight, touch, smell, and hearing. They will learn about the new sense “taste”. Students will have a power point presentation about the five senses. They will have the chance to taste several food related to the sense of taste. They will see a voki about the sense of taste and a song related to all the senses.

Objectives: Students will:

1. Review the four senses. 2. Learn the sense of taste. 3. Connect what they have learned with real life examples (by tasting

food).

Materials: 1. Overhead Projector (for voki, the power point presentation, and the

song) 2. Laptop 3. Some food to taste (chips, chocolate, banana, apples, and candy) 4. Worksheet 5. Voki.com or Voki Classroom

Preparation: 1. Teacher prepares a calm and clean classroom environment. 2. Teacher prepares the overhead projector.

Class Duration: 55 minutes

Activities:

1. Teacher starts by knocking on the door. She asks the kids: what sense is this? What do we use for the sense of hearing?

2. Then she asks them to look out of the window. What sense is this? What do we use for the sense of sight?

3. The teacher sprays a perfume around the classroom and asks them to smell it. What do we use for the sense of smell?

4. The teacher passes to the students a teddy bear. She asks them to feel it. Then she asks them what do we use for the sense of touch.

5. The teacher gives each student a piece of chocolate and asks them what do we use to eat it.

6. She tells them that the new sense is the sense of taste. We use our tongue to taste all kinds of food and drinks like chocolate, sandwiches, chicken, chips, juice…

7. She asks the kids about their favorite food. Then, she tells them that we use our tongue to taste the food that we like.

8. The teacher shows the students the power point about the five senses.

9. They discuss each slide and focus on the sense of taste. 10. The teacher concludes the lesson with the voki presentation.
