SIP – Session Initiation Protocol an application-layer signaling protocol for creating, modifying, and
terminating sessions with one or more participants
IMS – IP Multimedia Subsystem a framework designed for delivering IP multimedia services to end users
UC – Unified Communications encompasses all forms of call and multimedia/cross-media message-
management functions controlled by an individual user for both business and social purposes.
FMC – Fixed Mobile Convergence a horizontal control layer that isolates the access network from the
service layer. Each service does not have to have its own control functions as the control layer is a common horizontal layer.
