WebRTC adoption across the devices is increasing and it is estimated to be more

than 6bn devices by 2019

Chinese VoLTE subscribers is estimated to grow from 3.3 million in 2015 to 187.8

million by 2020 at 124.1% CAGR

Residential and business VoIP and UC services are forecast to grow to $88

billion by 2018


Industry Trends and Issues

Voice over LTE is still in its infancy with LTE being used only used for data services for

major part and voice being routed over legacy circuit-switched networks.

Temporary packet loss in a Voice over WiFi or VoLTE call cause words to drop out mid-

sentence, making it obvious that the technology is not carrier-grade

Lack of seamless handoff between LTE and Wi-Fi is causing dropped calls when switching

the networks

RCS deployment is still limited to few geographies and subscribers and is heavily

dependent on mobile operators deploying the expensive IMS infrastructure

WebRTC for mobile is ramping up but it is in early stages with some of the challenges such

as device specific tuning, battery life, maintaining good voice/video quality in bandwidth-

limited and lossy wireless environments
