    INSIDE THE VOICE...

    By Jack Baxter

    WELCOME

    TO THEVOICE

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to

    everyone at Greenfields school.

    Page 5 - Year 5/6 World War

    Two

OVER two years ago the school

    started a newspaper which was

    called Global Greenfields. Sud-

denly, sometime last year, itstopped and it was forgotten

about. Well earlier this term Mr

Morris, Mrs Prior and Mr Ed-

wards decided to launch a new pa-

per. A team of seven editors was

chosen and now were back with an

all new look paper and a new title!

At the first meeting with teacher

Mr Edwards, the newspaper teamdecided on a whole new title, a whole

new layout and a brilliant 3D

Greenfields leaf as our logo. You may

have noticed that this paper is now

twelve pages long. Thanks to an

    agreement with headmaster Mr Mor-

ris, we are allowed to print twelve

    pages per copy in colour!

    The Newspaper Team

You can see us all on the next page.

We write and put together the Voice

which will include interviews with pu-

pils, teachers and parents and photo-

graph for articles. We will print ex-

amples of some of the work done bypupils in the school, and report

    events that have happened. Thanks

for reading and enjoy the paper.

    Whats everyone gettingexcited about?

THE HEAD TELLS ALL!THE HEAD TELLS ALL!THE HEAD TELLS ALL!THE HEAD TELLS ALL!The school decided a couple

months ago that a newspaperwould be a good idea to spread

the word and news to every-

one. Since Mr. Morris is the

    schools head teacher, The

    Voicedecided to interview him

to find out his thoughts about

a newspaper and his plans for

the school. I think the school

newspaper is a good idea be-cause it will help the pupils of

    Greenfields find out about

everything that is going on in

    the school. The newspaper will

benefit us all in many ways

    such as helping childrens

ideas or stories to be heard

by the rest of the school be-

cause they will be published in

    the newspaper. Lily Alcocks

story on page 11 is a good ex-

    ample, Mr Morris added.

    Next we asked Mr. Morris

about his plans for the school

    after Christmas. Its going to

    be real ly exciting at

    Greenfields, as progress is be-

ing made on lots of the planswe have. We are really excited

    about the Darwin

award and how it canencourage children to

    develop as individuals

    and citizens.

    Next, we asked about

    school trips. School

    trips are a great idea

    because the children

can have fun and so-cialize but at the

    same time see things

    in real life that they

have been taught about in the

    classroom. The parents also

love it because they agree it

    makes learning more interest-

ing, but some do worry about

the cost because it can be ex-

pensive. So we do have to bal-

ance the cost with the number

    of trips we go on.

After that, we asked Mr. Mor-

ris if he likes the new school

    building. I think the new

    building is fantastic because

its a good use of space and

the new reception area isamazing. Maples new class-

room is also excellent and Mrs.

Prior and the rest of Maple

agree that is a brilliant learn-

    ing space.

Finally we asked, why do you

    think children enjoy coming to

    Greenfields so much, I think

    the children get a good

    education here, he said. We

    have good results and the

    children are usually well be-

    haved and respect staff and

each other. We hope that dur-

    ing their time at Greenfields

they make good progress andbecome good citizens.

Most of us have had a school

    dinner at Greenfields, and we

all know how great they taste.

But did you know that the

    school kitchens have been

given 5 out of 5 by the coun-

    cils food inspectors! To find

out more we went to see our

    cook, Mrs Wilkinson, and

firstly asked her how shechooses what we eat. I make

sure that all the meals are

    well balanced and nutritional,

    she replied. Mrs Wilkinson

    also chooses the specials, like

    the recent Mexican menu. I

try to choose meals that will

give the children a real taste

    of the different foods

    you can have from around

    the world.

Finally, from all of us who

    put their hands up for

    school dinners, a big

    thank you to Mrs Wilkin-

    son and everyone in the

    school kitchen.

    Mrs. Wilkinson our cook.

Did you know...School Dinners are a basic meal provided by school. How-

ever at Greenfields they also provide a range of different

foods that includes vegetarian food. All meals take into

account the nutrition needs of growing children need.

I am at the museum with my grand-

children. As we go inside, something

seems to catch my eye. As I walk over

to it, I recognise it, its Mr Snuggles,

and I start to remember that awful

    night

I was going over to the shopkeeper to

get my piece of Cadburys chocolate

and I asked him why is it so quiet? He replied because of the German

    planes.

So I asked him what planes? then an

unforgettable drone filled my ears. I

didnt know what to do so I ran back

to my home, darted through the door

and my mum said, get your favourite

belongings! so I sprinted up the

stairs and got my teddy bear (Mr

Snuggles) and rushed back down the

stairs and into the garden. As I was

running, I felt something slip out of

my hand, I looked around but my

searching was cut off when my mum

    shouted quick come in here!

As I was scampering closer, I felt the

sweat pouring of my cheeks. But I

was determined to get into the shel-

ter, so I dived through the crooked

gap and I had finally made it to the

cramped, corrugated room. The dis-tinguish stench of damp made me go

dizzy. The contents of the Anderson

Shelter was: a bed, a sofa and a small

wooden table, it wasnt much so I

knew I was going to be in for a rough

night. I slumped my self down on the

bed and we started to play a quiet

game of scrabble on the destined for

scrap table. But suddenly I heard a

loud band and a crash of falling rub-

ble falling to the ground. I was aboutto look outside, but I felt a tug on my

shirt, I couldnt move so I thought it

was best not to look what had hap-

pened. So I jumped on my bed and

    started to fall asleep.

I woke to another large bang, al-

though I was still a bit tired, I de-

cided to investigate what had hap-

pened. As I struggled to get outside,

I was greeted by an unpleasant sight,

a man lewd dead spewing blood every-

where and he was covered by the

bricks of a crushed building. It was

hard to determine who it was butmeanwhile a horrible thought popped

into my head, it was my farther! I ran

into the shelter and nudged my

mother to wake her up, she awoke I

told her all about what had happened,

we went outside and there he was

with our blown up house. Every thing

we had loved had been destroyed ex-

cept our air raid shelter. After that

we had to walk with the last scraps of

food to our grandparents which is

where we stayed for the rest of our

    lives

I looked at my grand children and

they stared back the saw my face had

changed from happy to sad so they

asked me, whats the matter grand-

dad? and then I started to tell them

how I lost Mr snuggles on that awful

    night.

examples of really great story writing.

    Story time with the Voice

We all live in a yellow subma-

rine. What awful music. I sit

here on my bed listening tothat band whose music is crawl-

    ing painfully through my head.

    Although, music has changed a

    lot since runrabbit.run. I

    trudge slowly through my mem-

    ory entrance with watery pow-

    der falling from nowhere,

    plunging onto the floor and

shaping into old images; a sinis-

    ter beat was slowly becoming

    clearer when suddenly my eyes

    twisted into my old self

I was staring in frustration at

    my owner. My carer (Deidre)

was listening in glee to the

creepy tune of run rabbit run.

I wanted to shout turn that

off! But I cant talk like a hu-

man can I can only beat the in-side of my throat and yowl. I

    felt a gentle hand comb

through my fur, I beated my

throat in content. I looked up

at the beautiful face of May, I

    think she can understand my

hatred of run rabbit run be-

    cause affection overthrows an-

ger any day for me.Then there it was, the droning

    whining noise that everyone

    dreaded. Quickly everybody

    out! Shouted Deidre, trem-

    bling. Deidre was last to

    go after little Frank,

Isabel, May (who triedto pick me up but I was

    already out). We threw

    ourselves out of the

    door and frantically-ran to

next door. We were all darting

    across the lawn. The atmos-

    phere was hot dusty and

sweaty; I knew the flames of

    destruction were being scat-

tered across the city. My feel-

    ing of vulnerability increased.

    Isabel being the oldest and

most spoiled in the family she

    ran back indoors probably to

get something or start a fuss.

She returned with a fluffy imi-

tation of a bear. We continued

our rush to next door when be-

fore I could even yowl, theworse incident of my life oc-

    curred. There was first a

scream then a cascade of burn-

    ing shrapnel flew over me,

whom I swiftly dodged but I

    knew the others hadnt. The

back garden of my home was

    spitting embers and the house

had loads of bricks missingfrom the front and the opening

was a twister of hungry flames.

    I walked the slightest bit

through the gate and I could

    see four freshly slain corpses,

lying on a pile of burning rub-

    ble. Deidre was burning with

frank in her arms, she died try-

ing to save the youngest child

    from deaths army of explo-

sions, Isabel died lonely at the

back of the pile clutching her

bear, but the thing that spiked

my stomach was May; She died

    without the reassuring smile on

    her wonderful face she died

    with the last scream hanging

from her lips. Then a strange

thing happened, a drop of hot

water was squeezed from thecorner of my eye followed by

many more, in a way it was re-

lieving to let them go but it

    made me feel lonelier.

I can feel them again now along

    with the spike through my

    stomach because I miss my

family so, so much. No kittens

have been born since then andI am completely alone. Not a

glimmer of love has touched me

and my life has been torn

    apart.

Once there was a sister calledMolly and a brother called Tom.

It was a very hot day. Molly

and Tom were playing in their

    swimming pool until they got

fed up, so they set up a treas-

    ure hunt. Molly went inside

    while Tom hid the treasure.

Firstly he tried to hide the

treasure in the pond but no,

there was a frog in there! Any-way it was too deep. Next he

looked in the trees but there

was a Mummy and a Daddy bird

    feeding their babies, so he

couldnt put it there. Then he

    looked in Mums flowerbed but

there was no room because of

    all the flowers. Finally he

looked behind a big bush and he

saw two strange magic key. One

of the keys was metal with dif-

    ferent flashing colours, and the

other was a wooden, green key.

    Hey Molly, come here! Tom

    shouted. Just as Tom touched

    the keys, two doors appeared,

one was green the other was

    flashing. Tom, with the green

key, unlocked the green door.Molly told Tom not to go in but

Tom didnt listen and rushed in.

As he went in he fell down a

long black tube and came out in

a tiny gnome city. Molly, want-

ing to go after him, tried her

metal key in the lock but it did-

nt work, so Molly tried it the

    flashing door and it worked.

Bravely she went inside andcame out in a beautiful fairy

tale land. While Molly was in fairyland

Tom wasnt having a good time

in the gnome city. He had been

thrown in prison by an ugly

    gnome.

    While that was happening Molly

met a pink unicorn, who had a

flashing horn and a purple mane

    and tail. She asked

the unicorn to helpher find Tom. The uni-

    corn said, I know

    where he is.

    Where? shouted

    Molly excitedly.

    The unicorn led Molly

    to a magic tree and

    said. Climb this tree

    and you will find him.

    Follow me, called the

    unicorn.

When they got to the top they

heard Tom calling. He was in

    prison. There were two evil

    elves guarding the dark, rusty

prison, with bars on the win-

    dows. The unicorns horn

    started glowing and she

smashed down the bars. Mollyran to the prison and freed

    Tom. The elves that were

    guarding werent doing a very

    good job because they were

fast asleep, but they woke up

    and chased the unicorn, Tom

and Molly. Just then Tom and

Molly jumped over a great big

log but the two lazy elves

tripped over it and couldnt getback up.

Molly didnt know how to get

back to the tree, so the uni-

corn showed them the way, but

    then disappeared into thin air.

So Tom and Molly climbed back

down the magic tree, and then,

at the bottom of the tree, thetwo doors appeared and this

time they were both good. So

when they came out of the

    doors, everything was the

same. It was almost like noth-

ing had ever happened. Just at

    that moment they heard mum

calling them for tea. So they

raced to the kitchen and prom-

ised never to touch mysteriouskeys again.
