Course News
Voice of the Swan Dec 2018
October weather conditions continued into November with it being rainy and below average air
temperatures. November rain total for the month was 6.5 inches at Swan Point. The rain now plays
an important role this time of year. With the Bermuda grass going through its dormancy transition
before winter, the plant doesn’t need as much water to help it survive. Unfortunately, that is bad
news for golf play and course work. With this much rain water around it has made it impossible to
clean the course from fall debris, but The Grounds Crew will work continuously to get the course clean
when conditions are favorable.
From December 2018 to March 2019 the Grounds Crew will be working on overall beautification of
the course. Low limbing trees, cutting back grassy areas and cleaning debris areas. The Crew will
start its work on the front nine first, than to the back nine. This time of year, the winter weather
dictate’s what we can do and what type of equipment we can use on the jobs. So, a hard freeze is
the most beneficial when doing low limbing trees, because tree equipment is very aggressive with
tire tracks on the ground.
For the greens going forward in recovery, the weather plays a big role. The temperatures need to
stay around 50 degrees and the low temperatures above 38 degrees or higher. Hopefully the
weather can cooperate for a full recovery before the hard winter sets in. If the weather doesn’t go
as planned a full recovery might not happen until
spring time 2019. The weather channel has Swan
Point at normal to slightly above average
temperatures, hopefully that prediction holds true.
From the Grounds Crew we hope everyone has a
safe and happy holiday and lets make 2019 the
best year.

Pro Shop News
November began with the MGA Player of the Year Finals. In a thrilling horse race, Marcus Goerdt outlasted
Robbie Anderson to become the 2018 MGA player of the year. Congratulations Marcus!
Our Superintendents Revenge was held this month in honor of the late
Tom Grant. 56 brave golfers battle the frigid conditions that day. Our
superintendent Tim Downey and his crew did a great job setting up the
golf course and definitely getting their revenge on golfers. It was a
great day to remember Tom Grant and his wife Carolyn and family were
here to be a part of it. This was Tom’s favorite event and having his
wife and family here that day made it very special for all of us. He was
an employee of Swan Point and always had a big smile on his face that
was contagious. He will be missed dearly. Thank you all that came out
for this special day.
The 2018 Golf awards dinner was held in November with a great turnout
by the MGA , SMGA, and WGA. Awards were presented to all our
tournament champions throughout the year and Erik Koch and DJ Ken
Harvey provided the entertainment for the
evening.
Thank you all who joined us for our Black Friday weekend sale. Sales
continue through December with incredible deals on dozen golf balls. We will
be having our annual Balloon Sale on Thursday December 6th from 5-7. Deals
will range between 20-80% off (excludes golf balls and golf clubs)! The Pro
Shop will also be having a 12 days of Christmas sale that begins on
December 12th. Each day will have its own special sale on merchandise so
don’t miss out!
Golf members please remember to use your credit book money by December
31, because they will expire at the end of the year. Credit book starts with
zero balance January 1, 2019.
On a personal note, I wanted to thank everyone for your support during my
first year at Swan Point and I cannot wait for the 2019 golf season to begin. I wish everyone a happy and
healthy holiday season!

The following applications were submitted to the ARC for the month of November
NEW CONSTRUCTION AND REQUESTS FOR MODIFICA-TIONS/CHANGES
None
NON-CRITICAL AREA TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS

ARC REMINDERS:
Did you know that your lawn needs to breathe? A barrier of leaves covering your grass can invite pests and diseases into your yard. Leaves block healthy air and nutrients from getting to the root system of your
grass. Please rake your leaves. Leaves should NOT be disposed of on undeveloped lots. Please use the curbside recycling program or Breeze Farm for the dis-posal of leaves.
The season of holiday decorations is upon us. Please remember that decorations need to be removed from the exterior of your home within 30 days following the holiday.
The ARC would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.
The Architectural Review Committee meets at 10:00 am, at the Clubhouse on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Requests must be received at the SPPOA office by 9:00a.m the Friday before a scheduled ARC meeting. Questions may be directed to the CMC On-Site Manager at: (301) 259-2100. Office hours are: 8- 3: T, TH & FR
(1) ELECTION OF SPPOA BOARD MEMBERS: The results of the voting at the Nov. 3rd Annual Meeting are in summary.
The following SP residents were added to the Board (the two highest in votes received 2 year terms and the third person in the voting received a 1 year term): Norman (Norm) Chlosta (2 yrs), Tom Seremet (2 yrs) and Shay Palchak (1 yr.). The other two property owners (on the 7
person Board): Bonnie Maines and Melanie Harvey remain on the Board until their terms expire in 2019. The Board offers our thanks to outgoing Board member Vickie Williams for her work on the Board for the past two years!
(2) SPPOA BOARD MEMBER COMPOSITION: Immediately
after the Annual Meeting, an Executive Session was held with Ursula Burgess (Rees Broome attorney) as chair. There were 4 (of 7) Board members present (Chlosta, Palchak, Maines and Harvey) for a quorum. Nominations and voting resulted in the following:
Norman (Norm) Chlosta -- President
Bonnie Maines -- Vice President
Shay Palchak -- Secretary (and Facebook editor)
Melanie Harvey -- Treasurer
Tom Seremet -- Member at Large
Declarant (SPDC) -- retain their 2 positions on the 7-member Board
(3) ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE (ARC): It was previously determined at the September 27th Board meeting that Jen Burroughs resigned as Chair of the ARC.
The Board then voted to have SP residents Eileen Decker and Tim Almeida serve as Co-chairs of the ARC. Our thanks to Jen for her efforts and management of the ARC review process in Swan Point.
(4) SPPOA BOARD MEETING: The next Board meeting is
scheduled for Thursday, November 15th (7:00 p.m.) in the Clubhouse. This will be the last meeting in 2018, now that the Board meetings are on a bi-monthly basis.
Regards,
--/s/Norm

SWAN POINT ANNUAL TURKEY TROT TO BENEFIT
WAYSIDE FOOD BANK
The results are in from the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving
morning. Almost forty people of all ages appeared by
8:30 to brave temperatures in the thirties and wind chills
in the twenties. There were no strollers this year but we
had six dogs. The best time was 25.5 minutes for the 5 K
course on the back nine of the golf course. Hot
beverages provided by Chef Richard were popular and
donations to the food bank totaled $520. All in all, a
very good day, especially since it poured rain the next
day.
Toby Clark will continue to collect for the Wayside Food
Bank for the next few
weeks. Please consider
donating to this good
cause.
Thank you to all that
helped with decorating
the club house. It is
absolutely beautiful!
