another Chamber year has been completed and now it’s time to reflect on what your Greater Charlottetown area Chamber of Commerce has accomplished over the past 12 months.

the launch of our new three-year strategic plan has provided the Chamber board and staff with an efficient and focused framework over the last year, as we work toward making the greater Charlottetown area the best place to live and work. The plan focuses on three main advocacy pillars including a competitive tax system, workforce development and a supportive environment for entrepreneurs.

Over the last year, the Chamber has worked diligently to ensure that the economy remains a priority for all levels of government. We have had several meetings with our municipal, provincial and federal government members and leaders to ensure the voice of business is heard at all levels.

With that, we have had positive success during this year’s provincial election. We saw all three elected parties address lowering the small business tax rate as part of their election platforms. We have also had discussions on the personal tax exemption levels in PEI, and the current challenges in PEI’s labour force. This April, we saw the economy play a key role in the provincial election.

We were pleased that the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce took the lead role in the new Partnership for Growth private-sector alliance. the Partnership includes more than 20 business organizations and industry associations calling on the next provincial government to work with the private sector to develop an economic action plan. Our PEI economy has expe-rienced unprecedented growth in recent years. the Partnership for Growth wants to ensure this momentum continues.

It has been our pleasure to serve you over this past year. Your support for the Chamber and the work we do has been unwavering for the past 135 years. We work hard to deliver on a promise to you, a membership of more than 1,000, to continue to promote a growing and vibrant business community in the greater Charlottetown area.
