VODAFONE WARRIORS RING CHANGES
BLOCKBUSTER THEMEBlockBuster matches at eden Park and WestPac stadium are the eye-catching features of a 2013 nrl camPaign Which has all the ingredients to Become a defining season for the Vodafone Warriors.
the seeds for a sea change can be traced back to the critical strategic
initiatives announced by owners Eric Watson and sir owen glenn and
the board in July last year.
at the time and since Watson’s mind-set has been one of developing
the club into the best sporting franchise in australasia.
While the ultimate manifestation is a yet-to-be-achieved nrL
premiership title, the club has not only outlined but also executed a
vast array of plans to put it in the best possible position to achieve
the end goal.
after the owners and the board made a commitment to deliver on club-
wide change, key plans have been acted on in the last seven months:
■ the process of forming the Warriors Foundation and a Warriors
Elite academy are nearing completion;
■ a million dollar-plus investment has
been made into producing best-practice
training, sports science, medical,
talent identification, it and other
team support facilities including a
team of highly-specialised coaches
and experts;
■ the club has worked with the
auckland rugby League to start a First Xiii
competition for secondary schools this year;

LIMITED EDITION wellington JERSEYthe Vodafone Warriors’ historic Capital Clash has an extra-special
touch with the production of a limited edition replica Wellington
jersey to be worn against the Bulldogs at Westpac stadium on May 11.

co.nz including a jersey, match ticket and Vodafone Warriors
membership. Wellingtonians taking advantage of the jersey and
membership package will be part of history in the making, helping
to turn Westpac stadium into a home away from home for the
Vodafone Warriors.
■ Membership offers for fans outside Auckland and in Australia have
been enhanced;
■ And the club has boosted its merchandise operation by appointing a
fulltime merchandise manager and opening a Vodafone Warriors
Team Store at SKYCITY.
The club’s community programme has also been broadened with a
delegation giving back to the Pacific by making ground-breaking visits to
Samoa and Tonga in January-February.
At the most visible end on the football side, the Vodafone Warriors go into
the 2013 season with a squad beefed up by NRL title-winning experience in
the shape of Melbourne duo Dane Nielsen and Todd Lowrie while they also
have Kiwi international Thomas Leuluai, whose career is decorated with
Rugby League World Cup and Four Nations victories plus title successes
with Wigan in the English Super League.
Matthew Elliott gives the club the rare commodity of previous experience as
an NRL head coach, and lots of it. Apart from foundation coach John Monie
in 1995, every other coach appointed was an NRL rookie.
For the third year running, the club will make an emphatic statement about
its season by playing the first home game of the year – Ed3n – The Rising
– at the New Zealand’s biggest stadium Eden Park when they face the
Sydney Roosters on March 16.
In a highly significant move the
Vodafone Warriors are taking a
home game outside Auckland
for the first time, playing the
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
at Westpac Stadium on May 11.
With Vodafone as the match
day sponsor, the Capital Clash
will be a momentous event,
augmented by the production
of a replica kit designed on
traditional Wellington rugby
league lines.
Change was promised
throughout the club and it
has become reality.

appearances and 102 tries to his name since his debut as an
18-year-old in 2004. Last year he became the first player to

VODAFONE SUPERFAN
THE ULTIMATE SUPPORTERThe Vodafone Superfan programme haS reached juggernauT-like STaTuS Since being launched aS a feaTure aT Vodafone WarriorS home gameS.Indeed the ubiquitous Mount Smart Joker, given the cape as
the ultimate Vodafone Superfan last year, has lifted the
concept’s profile to another level with his
ability to turn up in costume at all manner
of events in and out of season (not to mention
his prolific social media skills). Now the 2013
Vodafone Superfan has been brought into sharp
focus with eyecatching promotion popping up on bus backs
around Auckland. The campaign will have a difference this year
with Vodafone Superfan activity being specifically centred
on the
blockbuster
home games
against the SydneyRoosters at
Eden Park on March 16 and the Bulldogs at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on May 11 plus the Vodafone Warriors’ last home game of the regular season against Canberra. In keeping with the Vodafone
Superfan’s prolific growth it will be tailored for the grand occasion, no more so than the historic first
Vodafone Warriors home game being played outside Auckland against the Bulldogs in
round nine. Vodafone is match day sponsor of the clash in the Capital.

VODAFONE WARRIORS COMMUNITY
POSTCARD FROM THE PACIFICPlans to take the Vodafone Warriors’ message to the Pacific came to fruition just months after the idea Was conceiVed. When the club, led by owners Eric Watson and Sir Owen Glenn, announced
a raft of initiatives last July, they and the board also made clear their
intention to give back to rugby league’s wider community by visiting
neighbouring Pacific countries.
By late January the crusade was a reality. In two action-packed days in
both Samoa and Tonga, thousands of primary and secondary school
pupils were exposed to the club and the game during school visits and
community carnivals.
In Samoa, captain Simon Mannering and Jerome Ropati combined with the
legendary Stacey Jones and Ruben Wiki to raise awareness.
And in Tonga, NRL players Manu Vatuvei and Konrad Hurrell were joined by
Vodafone Junior Warrior Albert Vete and the club’s foundation captain Dean Bell
working with enthralled school kids.

It might range from the blue collar die-hards who have been sitting in the South Stand
season after season no matter what the weather or the team’s fortunes.
It could just as readily be those typical old rugby league faces, players of yesteryear,
seemingly locked to their seats around the West Stand’s tunnel area; perhaps it’s
mum, dad and the kids in the family area; or those with more disposable income who
sign up for the packages in the Club Lounge in the East Stand or the corporate suites
on the opposite side.
So many different faces watching their team and supporting it the only way they know how.
At the core of the experience, there’s a constant theme. For all members it’s about
loyalty, commitment and devotion, the qualities that separate True Warriors from the rest.

it’s a story Which has Been rolled out a feW times lately But it alWays Warrants Being retold. not too many years ago, the Vodafone Warriors had regressed at such an alarming rate on the nrl’s merchandise front that they sat at the Bottom of the nrl’s rankings.
CANTERBURY OF NEW ZEALAND
CCC'S AAA+ RATING
go HAVE A LOOK...Go to the team store in the Sky Tower Gift Shop,
Canterbury of New Zealand outlets or www.warriors.co.nz to see the Vodafone Warriors’ range.
The transformation since could not have been more complete as the
Vodafone Warriors have not so much grown as exploded into the NRL’s
merchandise powerhouse.
Through the efforts of official apparel sponsor Canterbury of New Zealand,
they’ve become not just the dominant force but arguably also the most eye-
catching one on the NRL scene.
This year’s range has again hit the spot with sales showing exceptional
improvement on even 2012’s outstanding figures. The Inferno and Sub Zero
strips on show in the trials (these will be used as training kits during the
season) have proved dazzling successes. CCC has also produced a superb
heritage kit based on the 2002 grand final strip and a special Wellington
kit with a genuinely traditional rugby league feel for the Vodafone Warriors’
historic ‘Capital Clash’ against the Bulldogs at Westpac Stadium on May 11.
The Vodafone Warriors have beefed up their overall merchandise operation
by appointing David Camps as merchandise manager and also opening a
team store at SKYCITY.

red Bull and convention aren’t often in tandem. They certainly weren’t
when it came time for red Bull to spin its sponsorship wheels in February.
It did so by drawing on its stable of extreme athletes to turn on a gate-crashing
display at the end of a Vodafone Warriors training session. This wasn’t a media
event. It was never meant to be. It was exclusively for the players and staff.
Ultimately, though, the club had gained two more valuable additions to

Matthew Elliott was revealed as the new head coach high up
the Sky Tower and Fernbaby was welcomed as a new sponsor
at the SKYCITY Grand.
The annual Kidz First Christmas Party, supported by the entire
Vodafone Warriors squad, was again hugely successful while,
in the course of the year, SKYCITY was host and home for

watch Vodafone Warriors away matches, the nrL grand final
and state of origin games.
Vodafone Warriors players were also involved in poker nights and quiz

Mannering joined his Blues and SKYCITY Breakers counterparts
