Vodafone sponsor equipment for Arka Foundation Article By: di-ve.com news
The Vodafone Malta Foundation has recently worked hand in hand with the Arka Foundation and
sponsored new medical equipment for their residents and clients. This equipment will help the Arka
Foundation residents live a better life, and it will help the Foundation since it requires constant financing
to maintain its on-going project.
“This project is yet another initiative by the Vodafone Malta Foundation whose main aim is to support
the community in which we work,” said Chairperson of the Vodafone Foundation Gemma Mifsud
Bonnici. “The Foundation is proud to be instrumental in the realisation of this project, seeking always to
give something back to the community and making people’s lives just that little bit better.”
The Arka Foundation in Gozo is an organisation which has been caring for persons with special needs
for the past 12 years. Over the years, it has provided various services to a large number of disabled
people and their families. Originally, when Dar Arka was inaugurated, the main purpose was to deliver a
respite service.
With huge investment, through several projects sponsored by the Vodafone Malta Foundation, Arka
Foundation now offers other therapeutic facilities not just for those living at Dar Arka, but even for
those who need to make use of specialised equipment such as the Multi Sensor Studio, the Gym, the
Darkroom and the Playing Field. The new equipment, sponsored by the Vodafone Malta Foundation,
including crutches, walking frames, wheel chairs and ripple mattresses are not only used at Dar Arka but
can also be loaned to those people who develop a temporary disability or to those who cannot afford to
buy the necessary equipment.
“We have always found the support of Vodafone Malta Foundation in the projects that we have
previously embarked on,” said Director of the Arka Foundation Manwel Curmi,. “Recently we have
decided to collaborate on another project, that of buying new specialised equipment for people in need
and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Foundation for supporting us along the years.”

Richard England launching exhibition at BOV Article By: di-ve.com news
Bank of Valletta is proud to announce that the protagonist of its upcoming exhibition will be none other
than the internationally renowned Richard England. Around 150 panels featuring England’s work in
architecture, sculpture, graphics and art will take centre stage at Bank of Valletta’s twenty-first
retrospective exhibition.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by President Dr. George Abela and will run between the May 18 and
July 19, 2013. BOV Centre offers plenty of volume and natural light and these are the ideal qualities
that any artist would require for the successful set-up and presentation of his exhibition.
The BOV catalogue of the Exhibition carries an introduction by Renzo Piano “Richard England is a
master builder, his walls breathe, yet they are walls which are anchored to the ground and their
individual elements interact and merge perfectly. It is from the articulation and the joints in an edifice
that one recognizes the real maker of buildings, and it is thanks to this quality that England’s
architectural work avoids appearing romantic. It is an architecture which is local, but also global, for his
language is the language of poetry”.
The exhibition curator, Charles Knevitt, former correspondent of the Sunday Telegraph and The Times,
and former director of the Royal Institute of British architect Trust, is also the author of two monographs
on Richard England’s works: “England has worked with Malta’s local tradition not against it, respecting
mass over void, shade over direct sunlight, topography, climate, materials and the memory of place”.
These exhibitions are organised annually by Bank of Valletta. Over the years, BOV paid tribute to some
of the most famous artists of our islands like the late artists Anton Agius, Pawl Carbonaro and Joseph
Casha. Other household names include Luciano Micallef and Paul Haber.

“NCW Malta is a key player in promoting and supporting gender equality in Malta,” said HSBC Malta’s Chief

GO reports dip in profitability, focuses on cutting its costs
GO plc said today that profitability had dropped slightly in the quarter up to March 31 and it was focusing on cutting costs and offering value packages in a market which is nearing saturation.
In a company announcement, the telecoms company said the scope for growth in overall market subscriber numbers was considered limited and within this competitive scenario operators were seeking to attract existing subscribers from competitors through value propositions and attractive offers.
"Whilst the company continues to enjoy substantial levels of revenue, an overall lower level of revenue from traditional lines of business has affected the Group. In addition, lower mobile termination rates resulting from regulatory intervention has also impacted on the mobile services sector," it said.
"The challenging and competitive local market necessitates that the company focuses constantly on cost optimization as it seeks to ensure that any lower levels in revenue do not translate into lower profitability."
"Although the company focuses on right-sizing, cost optimization initiatives are also being pursued across all major cost categories."
It said profitability during the first quarter of 2013 was marginally below that registered during the same period last year, however the Group maintains healthy cash generation and a significant level of liquidity and available facilities.
It said it had finalised a financing arrangement with its leading banker. This, together with the Group’s own resources permits the company to pursue its significant investment programme aimed at ensuring that group customers continue to enjoy the best quality network and customer experience.
