Vocabulary (1 period): Celebrations and Geography. 1. Holiday: A day when one doesn’t have to work. 2. Parade: A line of people, vehicles etc moving forwards in order, often as a celebration. 3. Firework: An object that burns to produce coloured lights and noise in the sky. 4. Costume: A garment for special activity. 5. To disguise: To hide the identity of, especially by a change of appearance. 6. Carnival: A period of public festivity with street processions. 7. Mask: A covering for the face, worn for amusement. 8. Balloon: A small rubber pouch with a neck filled with air. 9. Spirits: A strong alcoholic drink such as brandy. 10. Floats (Carroza): A large vehicle that is decorated to be part of a parade. 11. Roundtrip: Trip to one or more place and back again. 12. Hitchhiking (Autostop): When you travel by means of free rides in the other people’s vehicles. 13. Delay (Retraso): The amount of time by which someone is late. 14. Customs: Taxes paid on goods being brought into a country. 15. Stowaways (Polizones): A person who hides on a trip, aircraft etc in a hope of traveling free. 16. Passport: An official document issued by a government as proof of identity. 17. Berth (Litera): A place in which to sleep on a ship, train etc. 18. Liner (Buque): A large passenger ship or aircraft. 19. To cruise: To travel by sea for pleasure. 20. Stewardess: A woman who serves foods and drinks to people on a plane. 21. Non- stop flight: Not stopping at intermediate places. 22. Takeoff: When an airplane leaves the ground. 23. Landing: When the plane rests on the ground. 24. Boundary (Frontera): The line that marks the edge of an area or land.
