Vocabulary Technology Project Anna Leigh Marshall, Meagan Tabb, Courtney Sheerin Symmetry Why does this picture show symmetry? Symmetry What do you think is symmetrical about this picture? Symmetry The correspondence in size, form, and arrangement of parts on opposite sides of a plane, line, or point; regularity of form or arrangement in terms of like, reciprocal, or corresponding parts When you put an invisible line through an object and both sides match Symmetry The stained glass windows have symmetry because both sides of the glass look exactly alike. Symmetry Line of Symmetry Can you guess where the line of symmetry is in this photo? Line of Symmetry Find the line of symmetry! The line that determines where the symmetry lies within a figure The imaginary line where you could fold the image and have both halves match exactly Line of Symmetry The instruments have a line of symmetry directly down the middle because the instruments are symmetrical. Line of Symmetry Size Si ze Size What is the size difference between a mommy and her baby? Size Notice the different sizes of these buildings? The dimensions, proportions, amount, or extent of something How big or small something is by dimension, value, or magnitude Size The momma elephant is a much larger size than her baby. In the Birmingham skyline, you see the taller skyscrapers because of their size. Part What could this be a part of? Part Pieces or Parts? Different word, same meaning! Equal portions or fractions that can constitute a whole or into which a whole can be divided A portion, division, piece, or segment of a whole Part The pizza slice is part of the whole pizza pie. Individual lego pieces are part of the final project. Whole Who LE Whole Can you eat a whole pizza by yourself? Whole This whole bird fit in my oven! Integral, or not fractional All the parts; everything; total amount Whole A whole pizza was delivered to my house Friday night for dinner. For Easter dinner, my mom cooked a whole chicken. Congruence What makes these condiments congruent? Congruence These cereal boxes are congruent...do you know why? Two objects are congruent if they have the same dimensions and shape Equal in size and shape Congruence The salt and pepper shakers are congruent in size and shape. No matter how the cereal boxes are turned, they remain congruent. Equal Length Equal Length Equal Length Equal Length What makes this door equal length? Equal Length Notice how the frame is equal length? When two segments, such as sides of a triangle, have the same distance from one end to the other Having the same amount or value in relation to how long something is Equal Length The two sides of the door to my bedroom are equal in length. Equal length is represented in all of the sides in my square picture frame.
