VIRGIN MOBILE LATIN AMERICA TO EXPAND ITS MOBILE SERVICES TO MEXICO AND BRAZIL
Mexico City DF, Mexico , and Sao Paulo, Brazil, January 23, 2014:
Virgin Mobile Latin America (VMLA) will launch its third operation in Mexico
in 2014 and its fourth operation in Brazil as soon as possible following
Regulatory approvals . This follows successful launches in Chile and
Colombia.
Virgin Mobile Mexico has already begun its business build-out with a focus on
sales, marketing and customer service. Virgin Mobile Brazil has filed the
application with Anatel, the Brazilian Regulator, for its MVNO license today
after signing its wholesale agreement with Vivo last evening.
As an MVNO, Virgin Mobile Mexico and Virgin Mobile Brazil will utilize the
local networks of Telefonica in Mexico and Brazil, while controlling the entire
customer experience. Virgin Mobile is the originator of the MVNO model,
and the brand now has over 18 million customers in 10 countries.
VMLA Chairman Phil Wallace said, “The foundation for successful Virgin
Mobile MVNOs across the globe is a balanced wholesale agreement and a
strong relationship with a partner who has a high quality network. We couple
this with a market ripe for Virgin Mobile’s customer-oriented services and
success is born. This is the first step in our process for Mexico and Brazil to
reach the same high level of service our customers are enjoying in Chile and
Colombia.”
Santiago Fernandez-Valbuena, President and CEO of Telefonica Latin
America, added: “We are very proud that Virgin Mobile Latin America has
chosen to work with us in Mexico in Brazil, strengthening a relationship that
is currently covering other countries in the region. Virgin´s decision
demonstrates the high quality of our networks and services in both Mexico
and Brazil and is also a reflection of our firm commitment to increase
customer choices in the markets where we operate”.
Sir Richard Branson welcomed the news. “We are excited by Virgin Mobile’s
expansion plans in Mexico and Brazil, both markets are ripe for Virgin’s
innovative and customer-focused service. We will launch our Mexican service
in the next few months and in Brazil after Regulatory approvals are
obtained.”
