INTRODUCTION

MANNEQUINSMannequin comes from the French word mannequin, which had acquired the meaning "an artist's jointed model", which in turn came from the Middle Dutch word manneken, meaning "little man, figurine".A mannequin (also called a manikin, dummy, lay figure or dress form) is an often articulated doll used by artists, tailors, dressmakers, window-dressers and others especially to display or fit clothing.

TYPES OF MANNEQUINS

1. REALISTIC MANNEQUINSThese mannequins are more natural, more true to life, more animated and more identifiable as the people who shop the stores. They are well made up and proportioned to a particular size, and well positioned to show off a certain group or style of merchandise.

1. SEMI REALISTIC MANNEQUINSMannequins proportioned and sculpted like realistic mannequins but with makeup that is neither natural nor realistic, but more decorative or stylized.The hair may be part of the sculpture. It may not be changed, replaced or restyled.

1. ABSTRACT MANNEQUINSThey represent the ultimate in style and decoration - used to create an overall effect without natural lines and proportions. The features and specific details like fingernails; elbows, etc. are rarely sculpted. They are frequently finished in white or black, or sprayed in a color match an interior design scheme or specific color promotion. They are less expensive to maintain as hairstyle and make up rarely change.

1. HEADLESS MANNEQUINSIt has a full size or semi realistic body with arms and legs but no head. It may be standing/ sitting or reclining but offers no personality or image.It works well with window where there is height problem. Since there is no head, this type of form is considerably cheaper than realistic mannequins.

1. DRESS FORMSIt is a three-dimensional model of the torso used for fitting clothing that is being designed or sewed. When making a piece of clothing, it can be put on the dress form so one can see the fit and drape of the garment as it would appear on a body, and make adjustments or alterations. Dress forms come in all sizes and shapes for almost every article of clothing that can be made. Dress forms in standard clothing sizes are used to make patterns, while adjustable dress forms allow garments to be tailored to fit a specific individual.
