For the first time ever in Europe and as a "unicum" in theinternational design world, a lamp becomes a "form trademark". Itis the Tolomeo, the world-renowned made-in-Italy icon designed

by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1986.The UAMI (the European Union's officein charge of trademark, design, andmodel registration for the 27 EUcountries) recently accepted theapplication of Artemide for registrationof Tolomeo as a form trademark (three-dimensional trademark), which meansthat the form of this lamp, now a globalicon, is a registered trademark, and thatsuch trademark can be enforced solelyby Artemide. The registration of Tolomeo is

unprecedented for lighting equipment in the European Union.

The unique line of Tolomeo and its gaudy and elegant slendernessare consolidated features of modern aesthetic consciousness: thepresence of Tolomeo is now a sign of quality and modernity in thehabitat of contemporary man. This identity is worth an actualstatement and confirms the well-established ability of Artemide tocreate experiences that bring innovation into the world of designand projects.

Stuttgart. The time: seven minutes, 18 seconds on the Nrburgring-Nordschleife. Thepower: 620 hp. The weight: 1,370 kilograms or 3,021 lb in road trim with all fluids onboard. The car: the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The GT2 RS is making its world debut atthe Moscow Auto Show on August 25th

The future top GT model marking the absolute climax in the 911 range is the fastest andmost powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche

AG, Stuttgart. With power up by 90 hp and weight downby 70 kilograms or 154 lb in comparison with the 911GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratioof just 2.21 kilos or 4.9 lb per horsepower, by far the bestpower/weight ratio in its class. Obviously, these are the

ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sportscar with supreme agility, truly blistering performance onthe road, and of course exemplary Porsche IntelligentPerformance. For despite this extra power andperformance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions

versus the 911 GT2 are down by approximately 5 per cent to 11.9 ltr/100 km (equal to23.7 mpg imp) and 284 g/km.

The 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine boosted by two turbochargers with variableturbine geometry exclusive to Porsche in its combination with a gasoline engine drivesthe rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Developed especially for the 911 GT2RS, sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 convert this massive power into equallymassive performance and acceleration on the road: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0 to

    200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.

Equally supreme stopping power on this ultra-high-performance sports car comes fromPCCB composite ceramic brakes. Appropriate longitudinal and crosswise dynamicsare ensured by the sporting RS set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche AdaptiveSuspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the dynamic engine mounts andPSM Porsche Stability Management.

In its looks the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the 911 GT2 above all throughthe lavish use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components in matt-black surfacefinish, even wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 light-alloywheels with central locking, as well as GT2 RS model designations on the doors andrear lid. The upgraded front spoiler lip and the rear spoiler lip made of CFR and now 10millimetres or almost 0.4 inches higher, again in surface carbon finish, ensure the right

aerodynamic precision as well as extra downforce.

The interior also exudes the flair of sporting performance in virtually every detail, featuring lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in carbonsurface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic interiorcolour is black, contrasting attractively with features such as the seat centre sectionsand the roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. The gearshift andhandbrake lever are both finished in red alcantara.

Limited to just 500 units, the 911 GT2 RS will be available in Europe from September2010, in the USA from October 2010. The Euro base price is 199,500.- Euro. IncludingVAT and national specifications/equipment the new 911 GT2 RS will retail in Germanyat a price of 237,578 Euro.

With its retro synthetic vibe, the house clashes happily with its lush surroundings, but the interior, in itswhite-dominant serenity is much less startling, although fun and unexpected detail is found in everyspace. There is absolutely nothing ordinary in this house. Everything is customized, every aspectconsidered a million times. It is a great example or considered chaos

    Be aware of these trends...

Long gone are the days when 'online' was synonymous with social isolation and loneliness. In fact, we're n

witnessing the exact opposite: technology is driving people to connect and meet up en masse with others, in the 'world'. It makes for an interesting, easily-digested trend, begging to be turned into new services for your customers.

As predicted by digital gurus more than a decade ago, hundreds of millions ofpeople are now living large parts of their lives online (and lovin it!). However, thishas not turned entire generations into homebound, anti-social zombies (anotherpopular forecast). Au contraire: social media and mobile communications arefueling a MASS MINGLING that defies every clich about diminished humaninteraction in our online era.So (for now), forget a future in which the majority of consumers lose themselvesin virtual worlds, with cities dying and kids never seeing the light of day; expectpeople to mingle and meet up like theres no tomorrow. A definition:MASS MINGLING | Thanks to the online revolution, hundreds of millions are

now actively searching for, finding, connecting/signaling, and staying in touchwith likeminded souls in the virtual world. Constant updates, GPS and mobile online access is now bringing explosion of dating, networking, socializing and mingling to the real world domain.Heres what driving this trend, in more detail:

    MASS MINGLING

    1. People love to connectMASS MINGLING follows the pattern of any consumer trend, wherebyexisting human need is unlocked in a new way. In this case, interactwith other people - a fundamental need (which goes beyond simenjoying one another's company, or being emotionally dependent on otpeople) - has become easier thanks to new technology.

So, no surprise here that hundreds of millions of people are now addand tending to personal profiles (listing likes and dislikes, interepreferences, physical assets, and opinions), making it easier than ebefore to discover', or stay in touch with, likeminded others*. Think frieand family, colleagues, romantic interests, and those sharing simhobbies, interests, political preferences, grievances or causes. And all 'befriending' takes place in unprecedented quantities: never before wpeople able to build and maintain such extensive and relevant personetworks.

    Some numbers:

    * Twitter: 100 million+ users, with 50 million tweets sent each day.

    * Facebook : nearing 500 million users. The average user has 130 frienspends 55 minutes a day on the site and receives three "event invitatio

to real-life gatherings every month (in December 2009, the company stated that 3.5 million events were created evmonth). Next? According to The New York Times, Facebook will soon incorporate 'location' in two ways: its ofeatures for sharing location and APIs to let other sites and apps offer location services to Facebook users. This cowell be a MASS MINGLING killer app.* LinkedIn : over 65 million members. A new member joins LinkedIn approximately every second.* A veteran MASS MINGLING engine like Meetup has 6.1 million members, handling 2.2 million RSVPs and 180,0meet-ups, in 45,000 cities a month.* Foursquare has one million users, while Gowalla: 150,000 users.* Nearly three quarters (73%) of online teens and an equal number (72%) of young adults* use social network sit73% of adult profile owners use Facebook, 48% have a profile on MySpace and 14% use LinkedIn. 2. People love The real worldWhile the rise of the online world remains one of the premier (consumer) stories of our time, anthe , with their decidedly 'offline' overtones, are enormousimpactful too. This incredibly powerful tandem of mass urbanization and experiences has resulted in aorgy of real world activities and happenings that are all about mingling; from countless cultural and not scultural events, concerts, festivals, and seminars, to a burgeoning and truly global bar/dining/party scento a Warholian retail renaissance, to tourism & travel now being one of the world's largest industrie

employing approximately 220 million people and generating over 9.4 percent of world GDP. In short, peophave always, and will for a long time continue to enjoy interacting with other warm bodies.

    URBANYEXPERIENCE ECONOMY /LIVING THE LIVE

MASS MINGLING is happening because people can. There's now an all-encompassing information layer* on top real-world daily life, that (especially when mobile and location-based), turns 'connecting' into 24/7 and 'on the gofurther blurring the boundaries between online and offline. This layer has created a space in which following, finding, tracking, connecting to, and ultimately (spontaneouslmeeting up in the real world with interesting known and unknown people will be easy, automatic, instinctiveconvenient, and even natural. And thus, for many, connecting to 'strangers' is rapidly becoming second nature.

For a glimpse of things to come, dive into location-based 'meet-up' services like Foursquare (now doing 700,00check-ins per day), Gowalla, Google Latitude and Loopt. By the way, the first official Foursquare Day took place thApril. News of the event spread by word of mouth, leading many users to organize parties and gatherings celebratinthe social network. * Let's not forget that this emerging layer also taps into a vast reservoir of local knowledge ancontent that has been growing online for years. This incredible info-infrastructure further helps (if not encourageMASS-MINGLING prone consumers to select venues and activities (based on profiles, preferences, reviews etcbefore venturing out.

Crystal BathtubTakes Pride Of Place At HarrodsHarrods has always been at the forefront ofsupplying the world with luxurious items, but thiscrystal bathtub crafted by indulgent Italiancompany Baldi might just take the title of mostextravagant. The unique bathtub will be ondisplay in the main window at Harrods, London forthe entire month of July. The huge tub, 2 metres inlength and 55cm in height was previously shownin Milan at I Saloni in April 2010 and is carved froma single enormous block of the purest white rockcrystal, quarried in the Amazon region of Brazil. The block was discovered in 2006 when Paolo

Baldi, father of the company's current CEO LucaBaldi, learned of the existence of this ten-tonblock of flawless crystal and had it extracted andtransported to Italy intact. If you have 530,000available than just go to Harrods in Knightsbridgebefore the end of July.

    Pum a s pop -upshop has made anappearance in NewYork City as ashipping containerstore. The two 40-f o o t s h i p p i n gc o n t a i n e r s a r e

painted in the signature Puma red and the interior

has been converted into a soccer shop, presumably to honor the World Cup. The coolestpart about the Puma pop-up shop shippingcontainer store is the fact that there is a nearbysoccer pitch, so buyers can testout their new soccer cleats orjerseys right away. I really like theidea o f tu rn ing sh ipp ingcontainers into stores. They havealready been used to createpretty cool houses so its only amatter of time before they are applied to differentuses and structures.

Modular would not be Modular if it did notcombine the introduction of a full range of LEDswith a new and unparalleled development. Maywe introduce the SPOCK: a design fitting with aflat LED disc, developed with the help of youngdesigners Couvreur & Devos. From this day onecology, technology and aesthetics go hand inhand. Though the Copenhagen summit failed todeliver the goods, the realisation that we have totake urgent action to save our blue planet wasbrought home to most of the worlds population. The automotive, energy and raw materialsindustries have all put green thinking at the top

of their agendas. However, an eco-product isonly of interest to the broad public if the ordinary, polluting product is replaced by a device thatcan rival it in performance. The green car willonly make its breakthrough when it is aspowerful and durable as the classic internalcombustion engine. We hear the same storyfrom a lot of consumers about eco-friendlylights: though they have been on the market fora while, the green alternatives have nevermatched the colour temperature of traditionalhalogen or incandescent bulbs. Until now, that

is. Modular has applied the very latesttechnology in an ingenious design. We nowintroduce you to the Spock: the very first designfitting with a flat LED disc...

Modular and young designers have created the Spoc

Invisibly ingenious: The LED technology and the design arethe result of years of research. With its revolutionary inner works, the LED disc which, thanks to its asymmetrical hinge joint, can beturned horizontally through 359 and vertically through -10/+45,may turn out to be the first valid substitute for the familiar halogenspotlight. Despite the Spocks minimal height, all of the fixtures are

hidden away invisibly. The thin LED housing, with a cross-section ofbarely 12.5 mm, contains 16 high-quality LEDs, aligned flat towardsthe outer edge of the circumference so that they are concealed fromthe eye. Using a reflector and redirecting plate, the light is divertedand focused via a lens into a powerful beam with a beam angle of 32or 56 degrees. For the developers it was very important for the lightdisc to belong to the so-called Exempt Group: the highest safetyclass, which means that the eye (even with lengthy exposure) cannever ever be damaged. In other words, the LED disc satisfies thestandards in this class in contrast to increasingly inexpensivemodels in stores that are not so strict with safety instructions and allof the associated consequences. An advantage of the large surfaceof the disc enables optimum cooling for the LEDs, ensuring a longlife of 50,000 hours. The LED engine is fitted with a built-in thermalsensor. When it exceeds a certain temperature under extremeconditions, the Spock is dimmed, so that durability is guaranteedeven under exceptional circumstances. The light of thefuture has to make a difference, doesnt it?

Design, Sleek intelligence: A technical revoon the inside does not mean sacrificing the beauty ooutside. Quite the reverse. When it comes to design, Mointends to stay far ahead of its time, now and in the fuPrecisely because the LED disc redraws the borders of Modulars R&D department went looking for a fittingcould take the ingenious disc to an even higher level. Awith the young creative duo Couvreur & Devos, the R&

came up with a minimalist cast aluminium fitting, finisheda tactile powder coating that accentuates its light technoThis striking but never obtrusive fitting will suit every inenvironment, whether on the ceiling, the watrackmounted. With its meticulous design, the Spock not leave a single wire showing: neither on the rotatingdisk incorporated into an attractive, chrome-plated ring hnor at the mains connection at the base of the fittingSpock shines through with an ingenious design refined tlast detail. This single-familyresidence in the Kagawa prefecture ofJapan is striking in its simplicity.Illumination from skylights and an airyinterior make what would seem like aclaustrophobic home into one that issurprisingly spacious. The Parallelhouse is in fact a two-story building. The wooden frame of the Parallel
