COMPLEX SENTENCE
A sentence that includes an Independent Clause
and a Dependent Clause
Dependent Clauses• Introduced by a conjunction—a
word that is used to join words, phrases, or sentences.
• When a dependent clause starts the sentence, a comma separates it from the independent clause.
Conjunctions
• after• although• because• before• if• since
• though• then• unless• until• when
Write I if the group of words is an independent clause. Write D if it is a dependent clause
and circle the conjunction.
