DescriptionThe 18th Annual Gastroenterology and Hepatology: Viva la Vida will provide, through formal lectures, questions and answer sessions, as well as interactive sessions such as hands-on demonstrations and interactive endoscopic cases from the Johns Hopkins Hospital, presentations of various gastrointestinal and liver disorders that will be of interest to practitioners in the field. Course attendees will be updated in a series of symposia to include current approaches to patients with IBD, fatty liver disease, pancreatitis, hepatocellular cancer, advances in Hepatitis C treatment and hot new and emerging topics including anal intraepithelial neoplasia, considerations for anesthesia, surgical interventions for GERD, submucosal endoscopy and endoscopic palliative bypass procedures. There will be a special symposia on bariatric weight loss including surgical options, endoscopic approaches and guidelines on how to build a bariatric program in your center. This year, the conference will focus on common clinical challenges faced by practitioners with clinical cases ranging from persistent abdominal pain, management of esophageal reflux, and intractable bloating.

Who Should AttendThis activity is intended for gastroenterologists, hepatologists, surgeons, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals who are interested in gastroenterology and hepatology. A special session on Thursday will be devoted to nurses and nurse practitioners.

ObjectivesAfter attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:• Describe recent advances in inflammatory bowel

disease including the role of surgery and the detection of cancer in these patients.

• Discuss new medical and surgical advances in treating liver disease, including pregnant patients.

• Discuss recent developments in the management of pancreatic disease, including pancreatic cysts, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

• Discuss the management of the various esophageal diseases with recent developments in therapy.

• Describe recent advances in therapeutic endoscopy with a focus on endoscopic technique.

The last day to access the evaluation and attest to your credits is April 23, 2018.

An outcome survey will be sent to all physician attendees within two months post activity to assist us in determining what impact this activity had on the learner’s practice.
