For knowledge workers, work in progress is invisible. In the digital space, unlike a manufacturing plant, thinking products are produced, and these can be dynamic and difficult to articulate. To conceptualize this, we must make the invisible work visible, understand how it’s best produced and then develop the right way of working, including process, engagement methods and work styles leveraging data.

The use of a Kanban board accelerates this. Kanban is designed to make all work visible and increase open collaboration. The main idea behind the Kanban system is to deliver what the team needs exactly when it needs it. In Japanese, the word kan means visual and ban means card, so Kanban refers to visual cards.
