Sound Wave by Jean Shin

Why was it created?Sound Wave was created because it was supposed to

represent how music and technology move on, the previous thing gets discarded and thrown away. It also is supposed to represent all of man’s favourite music in 1 collection and as well as a physical manifestation of the music.

Who was it created for?

It was created for The Museum of Arts and Design in New York back in 2007.

How was it created?

Sound Wave was created by collecting a large number of vinyl records, heating them to enable them to be molded, sticking them together and then allowing them to cool.

What inspired the artist?

The sculpture shows how as each piece of new technology arrives, the previous form of technology is rendered obsolete. The piece also aims to physically manifest the ephemerality of music as well as one man’s musical tastes, as represented by his personal record collection.

Golden Flapper Dress

Why was it created?It was created for a fashion show. The dress

not only got audience’s applause but also conveyed a message of reusing the discarded material in a proper way.

It was created for the guests of the Atlantic Fashion Week, 2009.

How was it created?

It was created from reused and discarded bottle caps that had been crushed and sewn onto a piece of netting to hold it together and provide protection.

What inspired the artist?

Danica Olders claims her dress is about "being fashionable and edgy and having a consciousness behind it. Using sustainable materials in fashion is as important as it is in beauty.”
