The Pennsylvania site was established in 1979 as Argus Research Laboratories, in response to an industry-wide need for a contract research laboratory with the requisite scientific and quality assurance expertise for GLP-compliant conduct of reproductive and developmental toxicology studies. This first area of specialization was later expanded to include phototoxicology and neurotoxicology in 1989, and, more recently, cellular therapy safety assessments.

In 1991, Argus merged with TSI Corporation, which was subsequently acquired by Genzyme Transgenics in 1994, and by Charles River in 2001. The site has grown to a 114,000 square foot, purpose-built facility with a staff of 165 employees, including eleven doctoral level specialists and an eleven-person QA unit.

Our services include conduct of ICH-designed studies, behavioral teratology studies and multigeneration evaluations in accordance with FDA, OPPTS, OECD and Japanese regulatory requirements, as well as consultation to design studies to address specific problems. Our personnel are the most highly trained individuals available on a contract basis in our areas of specialization, experienced in the use of laboratory species including rats, rabbits, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs and ferrets. Our historical database is unique. Since its founding in 1979, PCS-PA has used the same sources of rabbits

and rodents, and has maintained an updated historical database in an agency-recommended format. PCS-PA also offers the preservation of research data in our GLP-compliant archival facilities, which meet or exceed all regulatory requirements for

storage, tracking and retrieval capabilities.

VISITOR HOURSWhen planning your visit to our facility, please note that our visitorentrance is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Should you need to observe study-related activities outside these working hours, please advise your host so that alternative arrangements can be madefor arrival and departure.

ARRIVAL - PENNSYLVANIA SITEUpon arrival at the facility, please present yourself at the visitor entrance. If travelling by car, please park in the designated area outside visitor reception.

At reception, you will be asked to show identification and to sign in. A visitor badge will be given to you to wear throughout the day.

The receptionist will contact the host of your visit to accompany you from reception. For security reasons, a Charles River staff member must escort you when you are on the premises.

Our studies have been submitted to and approved by regulatory authorities worldwide, resulting in familiarity of key regulatory bodies with our organization and the work we perform. VISITOR ACCESS POLICYIn connection with your upcoming visit to Charles River Laboratories Preclinical Services, we would like to advise you of the health, safety and security procedures while visiting our facility.

1. Visitors will be provided with an identification badge at the reception area and will be asked to provide a photo ID at that time.

2. Visitors must be escorted by a Charles River employee at all times.

3. In accordance with our health and safety policies, designed to follow OSHA regulations, the following areas have been designated as hazardous and are clearly marked for your safety:

• Chemistry Laboratories • Cage Wash Areas • Necropsy Laboratory • All Animal Rooms • Diet Preparation Areas • Photobiology Exposure Rooms

4. Visitors will be advised by their escort if special protective equipment is necessary for a particular area. In order to enter a hazardous area, a visitor must be:

a. accompanied by a Charles River employee trained in safety procedures appropriate to the area.

b. appropriately attired in long pants, lab coat, uniform or scrub suit, closed-toe shoes, safety glasses and a mask.

5. Under no circumstances may you enter any hazardous area if you are pregnant or have reason to believe that you may be pregnant.

6. To avoid contamination, it is necessary for visitors who have been visiting another laboratory or who have been in contact with any animal colonies to shower and change clothes before entering our laboratory facilities.

7. No photography or video recording is permitted within the facility.

8. Smoking is not permitted in any Charles River facility.

CONSULTANTSIf you are planning to visit on behalf of a client, please ensure that the client you are representing has contacted Charles River and provided signed authorization to permit you access to the facility and to their data records. The client’s authorization must also include the nature and scope of the visit.

FACILITY TOURSIf you would like to participate in a facility tour, please advise your designated host so that arrangements can be made.

Please note that closed-toe shoes and long pants are required for all tours. A lab coat and safety glasses will be provided.

Follow I-95 South toward Delaware to I-476 North toward Plymouth Meeting/Norristown. Continue on I-476 North to the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-276 (toll road). Head East on the Pennsylvania Turnpike toward New Jersey. Take Exit 343, Willow Grove. Bear right onto Route 611 North toward Doylestown. After approximately one mile, turn left onto 463 West (there is a Wendy’s on the north corner). Travel approximately two miles on 463 West to Babylon Road, identified by the sign for the Babylon Business Campus on the left.

From Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Charles River Laboratories (905 Sheehy Drive, Horsham, PA)

Turn left onto Babylon Road and continue to the fifth drive on the right, Sheehy Drive. Turn right onto Sheehy and continue to a small circle. Turn right and continue straight through the parking lot area to the 935 Building. Charles River is identified by the “waves” above the building. Parking is on the right. Enter by the main lobby door under the “waves”.
